I can't believe I voted for Legion now. I totally want a t-shirt with Mordin triumphantly holding his hand in the air with the caption "FOR SCIENCE!"

I voted for Garrus, but it really does surprise in a lot of polls how Legion beats out Mordin. Really? I mean Legion is...interesting, but Mordin's awesome. I don't get it.

And man the thread has been slow last few days.  We got to come up with something to talk about.

Hmm, anybody think Garrus has siblings?  If so, older?  Younger?  How many?  Think his mother is still kicking around?  Would you like to learn more about any of that stuff?  I'm thinking single child myself and I think his mother is either dead or estranged.  I have no evidence for that at all.  It just seems he would have mentioned something otherwise.

I also really like that female turian pic that was posted a little while ago.  I like her stripey colors.

There was an interesting turian female concept in this thread. I like any kind of concept art even if they don't fully match my own idea, which you'll see when the artist takes my critique of the salarian female and alters it. Her krogan female is still the best, though.

I've got a couple new thoughts about Turians, but the come from Retribution. I don't think they're really spoilers for the plot, but you can never be too careful. One thing I think I can safely say is that it does appear to be easy for a human to distinguish between male and female Turians.

Really, I'm just waiting for inspiration about Garrus and Turians. When I do think my ability to produce reasonable discussion has passed, someone is bound to bring up something new.

My personal favorite is the one that got posted in the NSFW thread a while back. But the stripey female form earlier is a close second. I need to go by the post office today. The books may be in by now. If so I am really eager to read it. Mass Effect has got an excellent setting and I love anything that expands on it even a little. I am a total information junkie.

I know lots of people think Garrus doesn't get on with Tali in ME1 but that the relationship improves by ME2. What about Wrex? I actually don't think Garrus changed his mind much on the krogan and I don't think Wrex changed his either. I admit Garrus has tunnel vision where the krogan are concerned, but if you think about it so do the krogan. Lots of them live for over a thousand years so I know it is hard to forget. You can't just wait for the "old-timers" to die off and the wound to become less raw. Anyway, they really seem to buy into that idea of inherited racial guilt. That some turians in the past dropped the genophage to them means all turians are rotten through and through forever and ever. That's tunnel vision as well. In some ways, I think Grunt is more likely than Wrex to help Garrus get over any krogan preconceptions he might have. I mean Wrex has too much of a chip on his shoulder and won't ever not be confrontational about it. But Grunt actually flat out says "I don't hate Garrus. I hate the turians." I honestly can't quite figure out what he means there. Does he mean "I hate the turian government? Or "I hate the symbol of the turians?" Or "I hate turians that aren't allied with Shepard." That's probably the one he means. Anyway, even that's better than nothing. How do you guys think Garrus would get on with Grunt? I don't think they'll ever be best friends or anything but I could imagine grudging respect at least. I don't think that is possible with Wrex.

I suppose pick a war in which you firmly believe the other nation is the enemy. But have someone from that nation working alongside you, take any thoughts of betrayal out of the equation, and odds are you don't hate that person. But you still think their homeland is the enemy.

Mordin's best "Talk To..." is on Illium. He talks about Nos Astra like it's high school, hehe. That one also showed that salarians have at least some kind of sex drive, with him feeling uncomfortable around asari and mentioning the feeling reminds him of his earlier breeding contracts.

I don't think Wrex hates Garrus. Or vice versa. The one unique convo they have that isn't a regurgitation of the other squaddies, Wrex doesn't sound hateful, he sounds tiredly tolerant. "Go home, kid, before you learn something," isn't a hateful thing to say, and he doesn't even sound particularly irritated, just bored at Garrus' attitude.

Grunt doesn't seem to remember that Garrus is a turian. It's like he's decided Garrus is an extension of Shepard, or something.

What about that stuff about a krogan obstetrician's office at the rachni queen?  And then there is a confrontation if you have them with you when you talk to Avina about the krogan rebellions.  And then in ME2 you've got Wrex's "I don't care what aliens call it" complete with dismissive hand wave.  He acts like he can't even be bothered to recall Garrus' name.

According to the codex, Turian society has 27 'ranks' of citizenship.  Any idea what rank Garrus got to while working for C-Sec?

If you made them, I would buy them!

As to Garrus rank, we know he is at least third tier as that is the tier you get after boot camp. I expect he jumped a few more since then as he showed a lot of proficiency in the military and C-Sec is kinda prestigious. However, I don't think he is high enough that he is given any kind of formal command. I don't know at what point turians actually start having people under them. If I had to guess I'd say he's somewhere in the 5-10 tier range. He's also kinda young and rebellious so I don't think he could be promoted too many times. That range seems like it would be the one where you acknowledge a person's skills but also maybe that they are not ready for leadership yet. Does that make sense? Now, I have no idea how his going vigilante might affect his promotion. I don't think he will have gotten demoted over it, but I hardly think it earned him any rewards either. It's more like he just dropped off the grid. It's also possible he got knocked up a few tiers following his working with Shepard. I could see that and maybe at the point he went back to C-Sec or reapplied for Spectre training he was at a high enough tier to finally have people under him. Wouldn't surprise me.
