I don't read slash fanfic either, but the amount of attention it gets kinda fascinates me.  I read once about a study that was done that showed the most of the women who wrote slash pre-internet tended to be middle-class women with college degrees and steady jobs.  It made me laugh.  So now sometimes when I see that pleasant looking woman behind a counter in a bank, I can't help but think "so she's the type who writes Spock slash:devil:."  it makes me laugh every time.

What does Garrus say if you don't take him with you when you kill Fist? I have never done this before. I did it once with Wrex just to see what happened but I never did it with Garrus because obviously not having Garrus around for five minutes is five minutes sorely wasted.

I have no idea to be honest. I took him with me and didn't kill fist, can't remember though what he said to that. Only remember his comment on not shooting the workers before Fist's office.

Haha, given where this thread's mind has been the last half a page or so that could be a bad thing.

Actually, though as surprising as this may seem, I never read fanfic before Garrus fanfic. It always weirded me out because most of it was really OCC or involved self-insertion. However, as ME is an RPG there is actually an outlet for self-insertion. People can make Shepard's personality pretty much any way they want. It lends itself very well to fanfic. People still have to create their own characters. They can't just steal and shoehorn other people's characters into situations that they WANT to happen. Crack fic is an exception of course. That stuff is fun and funny. I'm talking about the serious stuff here.

Anyway, I have since tried to read fanfic for other stuff and I just can't do it. It weirds me out somehow. Any graphic fanfic or art involving human guys usually does. Even the risque art in the Kaidan thread weirds me out. It makes me want to avert my eyes. It seems more "real" somehow, I guess because those characters are human and so it seems a little more alarming. I can't explain it. It's the strangest thing. I'm not saying this makes sense, but it is a weird reaction that I get.

yeah, I think others get that with aliens instead.

I'm actually writing something serious, no smut and my current chapter is draining in a way. idk....maybe I should just go to bed.

And I think Wrex is quite dismissive of Garrus on Tuchanka in a "can't be bothered" kind of way.

Wrex and Liara only recognize Shepard. If you take Garrus there they will ignore him. That's doesn't say how they think of him, but it's more an oversight from the writers I think. Wrex always says "I don't care what you aliens call it" IIRC, no matter who you bring. It would be so much better if Wrex and Liara also said hi to Garrus and Tali if they are present.  Wrex and Garrus will probably never be best friends, but I'm sure they respect eachother for doing what they have done together with Shepard.

I can't explain it. I guess to me obsessing over a human is somehow creepier. It's like "but he's a bunch of pixels and there are REAL guys walking around." Does that make sense? The aliens are a weird indulgence. I'm not seriously entertaining anything there. They are exotic and fun, something you can't have in real life but that make a for a darn interesting story. That's why I look at art and fic about them because there are all these questions of "how would it work anyway?" and "what would it entail?" It's all an extension of the story. I think the human LIs are interesting story wise, but I have never felt an impulse to read smut fic about them or anything. I already know most of the "hows" there. I guess this has more to do with me being an information junkie than anything. But yea to me, the stuff with the aliens is not creepy specifically because they AREN"T real. It's like obsessing over any other world-building thing. I can't explain it.

*Edit* Thought to be fair I guess I have to amend this by saying that "sci-fi nerdage" in general can be construed as creepy, but I don't know how its any worse than obsessing over football or cars or ceramic cats or other ten billion useless things people obsess over.

I just never see a moment in ME1 where Wrex softens in his opinion of Garrus and seeing as he doesn't know "Archangel" Garrus I don't see why his opinion would have changed in ME2.

Horizan is the only place Garrus and Tali get bonus lines from Ash/Kaiden. Liara and Wrex don't give you anything IIRC. Sad that only Garrus, and the secret dialog with Tali is well done.

And still to me this proves that Wrex is pretty much dismissive of aliens broadly.  The only exceptions are ones that specifically earn his respect like Shepard and...Alena?  I think that was her name.  Anyway, asari commando he fought.

According to the codex, Turian society has 27 'ranks' of citizenship.  Any idea what rank Garrus got to while working for C-Sec?

Garrus actually unlocked the secret 28th rank. Posted Image

Ragabul, re: the mind-reading thing--I can't tell you how many times I've been glad people couldn't read my mind (say, at work) especially since I started coming here. I think I've become even more perverted lately, if that's even possible. :P LOL seriously dude, I need to go to rehab or something XD

No, you are not alone.  This has happened to me too.  In fact, I went to lunch with a cousin of mine yesterday and there was this abstract wrought-iron art thingie on the wall of the restaurant.   Anyway, it looked like...ahem.  That's all I could think about for like five minutes afterwards and I thought "oh Garrus thread, what impish mischief hast thou wrought?"  I even asked my cousin if she thought it looked kinda...fishy and she couldn't see it.  This place has messed me up big time.:P

Granted, Garrus was a bit of a cocky smartass in ME1. He's very turian-focused, probably because he's green. When asked what he thinks about chasing an evil turian (Saren), he will respond that this will restore the good name of turians. He even makes a slight jab at Kaidan for not liking his powerful L2 implants because of the headaches. Garrus says that "Humanity will be judged by the sacrifices its people are willing to make, Lieutenant. The Turians would have kept the L2 implants." When you're talking to the Terra Firma guy, Garrus brags how even the sick and infirm turians will stand at the front lines in war. It's all turian, turian, turian. I think spending time on the Normandy in ME1, serving with different species, has given him food for thought and reshape his opinion. Like you said, he did this with the quarians. It won't change his mind about the krogan or the genophage, but I think he can appreciate Wrex for what he is. I also don't think Wrex would resent Garrus for simply being a turian, because Garrus was not there when they released the genophage. Garrus is simply defending this because he learned this from his father, history class or whatever shaped him when he was younger. They'll never give eachother a brofist or -hug and grab some drinks together to chat a bit, but if we get them both back in in ME3, they'll get along just fine. Their different opinions might collide at times, but there's not really any clear animosity between them on a personal level. Especially when Wrex meets the new, improved and matured Garrus :P.

As for Wrex being dismissive of aliens in general, I don't think that's the case. He says the same line no matter who says what. Garrus mentions adolescence, Miranda calls it puberty. He doesn't care about the name. He only knows Grunt has to do the Rite.

Now, I'm off to survive zerg swarms again.

I agree with pretty much everything you said and this is precisely what I have been trying to say.  Maybe I just phrased it wrong so people aren't getting my meaning.  I've seen lots of people who seem to think that Garrus and Wrex get on famously, like they are old bros or something and I see no evidence to support that at all.  I also don't think they are at each other's throats and waiting to kill each other.  More like "mutual distaste" and in Garrus' case I think that is tinged with a little bit of active distrust.  If, say, Shepard thought Wrex has become risky and decided to gun him down, I don't think Garrus would bat an eye about it.  My point is, even though Garrus has mellowed on other issues like the quarians, I don't think his opinion on the krogan has mellowed.  This actually doesn't bother me because I agree with him almost 100% about the krogan.

And I do think Wrex is dismissive of 98% of people but I think now it's not just because they are aliens.  He is dismissive of anybody who isn't a brave, strong, experienced warrior with a renegade streak.  In some ways, to me that is even worse.

I agree with the Garrus/Wrex bits. Two likable characters do not need to like each other. That being said, in ME3, you potentially have an army of Krogan under Wrex, and I look forward to any interaction betwen the two.

And I'm off...my friends called and said they're watching 'He's Not That Into You'. I think I need ice cream.
