Haha Garrus in German... Not bad but I much prefer him in English... He's more cute and embarrassed in English.

Wow, the German dub's...suprisingly good.

I noticed he says Sie and Ihr instead of du and deine. Garrus, always a gentleman :D

Oh wow, he does? That's...really formal. Does he still do it during the romance scene? Because that would just feel awkward.

And does that mean that he would call her "vous" in French?

You really don't get those politeness nuances in English. Actually, I think that's a good thing though, because you don't have the problem of trying to decide which one to pick when you're addressing someone you don't know very well.

@ Buggirl: Concerning squaddie opinions in ME1, they will vary according to whom you take along (silly, silly system, if you ask me, makes them seem inconsistent). For example, Garrus will advocate killing the Council if he's paired up with Kaidan, but will suggest saving them if you bring Wrex. I remember posting a Renegade - Paragon scale a while ago. I think it was:

Paragon   Kaidan    -     Liara     -     Tali      -    Garrus      -     Ashley      -     Wrex    Renegade

I'm not quite certain of the relative positioning of Garrus and Ashley anymore, however. When I was shooting monkeys on Eletania for science (to see what the characters would say; I reloaded afterwards), Garrus said "I guess the little guy had it coming", while Ashley said "I would've just thrown a rock at it" (they were paired up). Which would suggest that Garrus is the more Renegade of the two. Has anybody ever brought Ashley and Garrus to the final battle, so we can confirm? I would've, on my 3rd playthrough...but I Virmired her ^^;

@ Pacifien: Ahaha! Jacob will speak up against Miranda leading? Really? Guess he's still bitter about her dumping him, even with the whole "she deserves a better man than me" spiel.

Yeah, I heard it in the romance scene. I haven't found a French vid, but it's indeed awkward. You'd expect that he'd switch to the more casual manner by then.

We have it in Dutch too, and I never know when to use what XD. I mostly use the casual form though.

I know a lot of people like to facepalm Jacob for that line when it then comes to doing the romance with him. ("Oh, she's not good enough, but I am?") But how I actually read that line is "Miranda is high maintenance. I'm not going to bother with that sh*t." The guy does seem adverse to hanging on to emotional baggage.

Phew, it's a luck it isn't dubbed in Spanish.

It's just too risky. They always make dubbed things sound awkward.

(They always end up having south-american people dubbing stuff for Spain, and that could make anything sound funny).

So you mean he uses formal forms EVEN in the love scene? Meh.

You bring up a very good point there. I never thought about what the characters would sound in other languages, because English is the original one. But at what point do you think Garrus should've switched to "du" rather than "Sie"? I guess this goes hand in hand with the fact that he never calls Shep by her first name. Of course, I know why that is, but "du" to me sounds like it should also correspond to him calling her by her first name in private. Since it's more informal than "Sie". Could this, perhaps, be one of the reasons why they decided to keep the "Sie"? Because they thought that "du" would sound weird if he was calling her "Shepard"?

It really is annoying! I constantly have that problem at the office: certain coworkers will insist on "tu", but it feels awkward with some of them, so I'll automatically switch back to "vous".

@ Pacifien: Hmm, that's a good point. Hadn't thought about it in that way, but it certainly makes sense. And it's more flattering for Shep Image IPB

@ Mentatzoee: I'm pretty sure a Spanish version does exist. I've seen Spanish people on Devart commenting about the game in Spanish, at least.

As far as I know, it's just subtitled. And it'd better stay this way, lol.

"Formal" forms are a pain, like having genders for things.
(I hate when... Calling vous/usted/whatever to someone who's old but not THAT old makes that someone feel bad about it. Or viceversa. Meeep.)

Edit: Anyway, we should encourage original versions anywhere, no matter what. Translating stuff always ends up in loosing shades of the original meaning -sometimes there's no way to translate certain things-

Hmmm, haven't really thought about that. It's mostly because I see Shep and Garrus as equals/friends by now, that I expected him to be more casual. I haven't paid attention to what Shep says, could be that she says 'Sie' too. I'll listen to that.

Vas ist das?

That is all I remember from 1 year of college German. -.-
I fail.
And huh... I wonder if it's just an oversight on the translations or if they meant to keep the formal tone. THAT WOULD MAKE ME SAD PANDA. Y.Y

Though I wonder if some of the translations caused people to go WTF because of some of the weird innuendos. Ahhh language. How weird you are.... XD

Hmmm, I hear Shep say 'du' and 'dir'. Then maybe they wanted Garrus to use the formal words because he never uses her first name? Makes sense in some way. Still, it's a bit... weird.

I still kinda hope that in ME3 the Council's stupidity turns out to be fake and part of a major plot twist. Just because...I kinda like the Council, even though they never listen to Shepard.

Here's to you, Councilor Velarn, Councilor Tevos and Councilor Hoodie Salarian. Make us proud.

Thats what I hope and I also suspect, Xsause. The Councils are stubborn in ME1 and ME2, but by the time the Reapers are at their doorstep, they wise up. Just seems like they were building up towards that.

I think they do listen to Shepard but they have few actual evidences. I think they are clever enough to make their own secret investigations with STG and spectres.

I always liked this explanation. "Gee, thanks Shepard, we were trying to avoid mass panic here while we work on some plans."

They can "investigate," all they want.  Time's running out.

Shepard and Garrus will have the galaxy saved by the time they finish planning.

One of my friends got the Japanese Mass Effect 1 on xbox. When I saw the vids, I breathed a relief that it wasn't dubbed in Japanese. Liara would probably sound like a whiny cutie sultress with Japanese dubs. But thinking about it, if they ever did Japanese dubs, I think Garrus sound decent, if they get someone who's reasonable deep voiced and toned. (I've got a few names. Yes, I used to be an anime otaku... XD)

I don't usually mind english > other languages dubs. Some cantonese dubs for a few english films are pretty decent, but the names sound very ridiculous when they make phonetic names for english.

It's either that or they see Shep as some sort of mental patient.
