It was touching, but they really needed to add more convos for him. You only have like 2 if your a male shep and maybe 2 more if you do romance him.RubyRed1975 wrote...

I thought that the scene itself was pitch-perfect! It was the lack of conversation in the build up which irked me. However, with hindsight (by this I mean, while endlessly analysing the romance. lol) I think that his lack of meaningful conversation actually speaks volumes about the relationship itself.
... but I could be projecting resolution. lol.
It's a damn shame that Garrus, given his history with Shepard (most Shepards, anyway), wasn't given more dialogue generally.
The big void, for me at least, was the lack of post-coital conversation. I think since so little was said on the build up, afterwards is when Garrus is really going to open up and be emotionally vunerable with Shep (I think his trail-off just before the headbump is the most vunerable we ever see him). The conversation afterwards would have been sooooo important to that relationship. The fact that they gave JACOB of all people one and not Garrus really stings, man. Then again, there is so much riding on that conversation (IMO) that maybe not reducing it to a couple of lines at the end was a blessing, I'm undecided. In any case, they definety need and entire scene of conversation in ME3, at least! (not just their relationship: the whole Sidonus situation also).
Overall, though. Happy. More dialogue wanted, but happy. (ESPECIALLY post DA:O romance cumulation scenes. All the othe squad stuff there was great, but the romance cut scenes made me cringe. Especially Alistair and Leliana's. In the former my GW looked uncomfortable and in pain, and in the latter... well, it got creepy. lol)

No I'm just saying German accents make everything a little more badass, not necessarily better. It's just the nature of the language to English speaker earsIt still wouldn't be Garrus with out BK at the mic.
heh. Good answer
And yeah, Germanic accents do lend themselves to that style of hard line attitude extremly well. That slightly harsher tone in the pronunciation of some words? (to my ears at least).

For what was given, it was adorable, funny, clever and everything was in character. Their relationship is one that not only emphasizes trust but is also one full of funny banter, I feel the tone and the exchange between them was perfect throughout the romance. I don't think this has been mentioned before but the Shepard that spoke to garrus before the romance felt like the "same" Shepard talking to him during the romance if that makes any sense. There wasn't an abrupt change in character at all; it felt the most natural because of it.
Take Jacob's romance for example, how many thought their Shepards got "taken over" when they spoke to him? Many people were unsettled by the conversations because they didn't feel right at all, the progression was all wrong from the moment you spoke to him on the Normandy, it felt forced and out of character. Yet with garrus, the "reach and flexibility" conversation although flirtatious and forward, was not something that came out of the blue.
Firstly, it happens after a few conversations during ME2 and most importantly, by that point, you knew Garrus for a long time. Secondly, Its established early that Shepard and Garrus love to banter with one another, during his recruitment, the scar conversation etc, this was just another form of that. Shepard got to "one up" Garrus by playfully using his words against him (hey, he was bragging after all ) while at the same time letting him know she was interested in him. Garrus was shocked for a few seconds (score one for Shepard) but then in an instant he says "never knew you had a weakness for men with scars...” providing a playful response just like he always does.
Shepard’s romantic interactions with Garrus don't stray too far from how "friend" Shepard speaks to him , its jokey , its light-hearted and she tells him she trusts him (something friend Shepard says to him right after recruitment) she doesn't turn into a horny cougar , she just acts just like a friend turned love interest would behave. That's would I love most about the romance and I really hope the interactions in ME3 are just as good. The only thing, as everyone said, it felt too short. A few more conversations (remember the amount in ME1?) and maybe a bit more animated affection. When the head bump happened I was expecting a hug, Garrus stroking Shepard's face, something, but it went to black and I let out an "awwwww...”
Watch Jacob's post suicide mission conversation and I'll bet you'll get a little ticked off, the guy gets MORE physical affection even after the romance scene!!! Talk about greedy! It was nothing BUT physical yet he got MORE anyway, while Garrus...Garrus tells you what he thought of your final decision and then proceeds to say "he wants to try it with you" in a never ending loop.

I really loved the romance, though I did want just a little more. At least a hug, though a kiss would have been preferable (at least on Garrus' forehead). But when Garrus touches Shep's arm at the very end, my heart just about melted, he's so incredibly adorable!

I bring gifts of minific!
*Shepard and Garrus stand in the armory, inspecting equipment for an upcoming mission. Garrus turns to Shepard before checking the sights on his sniper rifle.*
Garrus: So... You and Tali?
*Shepard ejects an old thermal clip from his pistol before turning to Garrus.*
Shepard: You noticed?
*Garrus shrugs, placing the rifle back on the table.*
Garrus: Well, you just confirmed it.
*Shepard grins, replacing the pistol's thermal clip. The two friends share a long silence.*
Garrus: Can I just say that it's about damn time?
*Shepard laughs. He smiles as he turns to Garrus.*
Shepard: Were we both that obvious?
Garrus: You two were inseperable! I'm amazed it took you both as long as it did.
*Another shared silence.*
Garrus: Can I ask you something?
*Shepard places the pistol back on the table before crossing his arms, his full attention on Garrus.*
Garrus: What does she look like?
*Shepard raises an eyebrow.*
Shepard: I don't kiss and tell, Garrus.
Garrus: So there was kissing?
*Shepard turns back to the table, examining his pistol again.*
Garrus: Oh come on! You can tell me!
Shepard: Joker's got his betting pool up and running again?
Garrus: Shepard... I've got a whole lot of money riding on this.

The positive hat comes from Jacob's romance is that he asks Shep about how she is feeling. More of this was needed, but again, I think that this (for Garrus) was more of a post-sex conversation.
I've always held the view that Garrus focuses on the sex side of things because the emotional implications of a 'relationship' with Shepard are too much to him to deal with. She is already his best friend, his commander, and the only person in the galaxy he really trusts, and taking that to the next level emotionally puts far too much on the line.
By the actualy scene, however, I think Garrus is ready to deal with that. But they don;t actually need to SAY it. Actions speak louder than words, so to speak. It's AFTER the sex is out of the way (although your could interperate that scene as no sex - just emotional honest and talking. I wouldn't, but I'm not going to dispute any headcanon that does at this particualr point) that they can both open up and talk about how they FEEL about.... well, everything.
I think that Shepard is very much Garrus' rock, but at the same time he is hers. She completes him, and vice versa.
I agree that the post-SM lack of conversation is woeful, but part of me still thnks that there is so much that needs to be said at that point, that if BW had gotten that wrong, then it could well have been almost game-breaking. Mind you, this is just me. They could well have put in a bit of light banter regarding the sex that aknowledged it as not awful, and left it til ME3 to continue the relationship. Sadly, the "well, neither of us died, so I guess that's a plus." conversation was never to be. lol

Also, Hyrule and Janey, you two hit the head on the nail. Garrus cared a lot more about Shepard than Jacob did. Jacob did not feel genuine when he said he loved Shepard. The only romance, Jacob wants to keep everything casual and not too heavy. And then he says he loves Shepard? wat? Anyway, the Clan Vakarian group has more of my thoughts on both the Garrus and Jacob romances.

LOL, that's exactly what it is. Except that the romance scene has a fade to black instead of a SUDDENLY BLACK.

You can definately say so. Even if having the same line before and after the SM stinks, it would have been too risky for BW to take a step in any direction they could have chosen at that time. I wasn't around here by the time ME2 hadn't come out, but something tells me the amount of fanfiction and fascination related to Garrus has exponentially increased after finding out he could actually be a LI in ME2.
It might not be this way, but I'm pretty sure BW guys take into consideration what are the established canons for their fans and what are the likes and all this, even if they might have things thought in a way or another beforehand.

@ Buggirl: Concerning squaddie opinions in ME1, they will vary according to whom you take along (silly, silly system, if you ask me, makes them seem inconsistent). For example, Garrus will advocate killing the Council if he's paired up with Kaidan, but will suggest saving them if you bring Wrex. I remember posting a Renegade - Paragon scale a while ago. I think it was:
Paragon Kaidan - Liara - Tali - Garrus - Ashley - Wrex Renegade
Ah that makes sense now - I've only ever had Kaidan or Tali with Garrus come with me to the final battle.

Yeah, I heard it in the romance scene. I haven't found a French vid, but it's indeed awkward. You'd expect that he'd switch to the more casual manner by then.
You bring up a very good point there. I never thought about what the characters would sound in other languages, because English is the original one. But at what point do you think Garrus should've switched to "du" rather than "Sie"? I guess this goes hand in hand with the fact that he never calls Shep by her first name. Of course, I know why that is, but "du" to me sounds like it should also correspond to him calling her by her first name in private. Since it's more informal than "Sie". Could this, perhaps, be one of the reasons why they decided to keep the "Sie"? Because they thought that "du" would sound weird if he was calling her "Shepard"?We have it in Dutch too, and I never know when to use what XD. I mostly use the casual form though.
It really is annoying! I constantly have that problem at the office: certain coworkers will insist on "tu", but it feels awkward with some of them, so I'll automatically switch back to "vous".
@ Pacifien: Hmm, that's a good point. Hadn't thought about it in that way, but it certainly makes sense. And it's more flattering for Shep
@ Mentatzoee: I'm pretty sure a Spanish version does exist. I've seen Spanish people on Devart commenting about the game in Spanish, at least.
I can only imagine the game being translated into Thai. Politeness particles all over the place!
