Well, based purely on those two pics up there, I think the one on the bottom looks best.

I sure hope they ditch the bandage in ME3. I actually read a fic not so long ago that was kind of heartbreaking. It implied that the wounds were more or less healed and Garrus just kept the bandage on to hide the extent of the damage. That his face on that side pretty much looks like melted Terminator face. We have no evidence for that but I think it was an interesting and sad image.

Reminds me of Phantom of the Opera.

I do honestly think the scars bother him. I don't think he's losing sleep or anything but I hardly think he's just like "meh, whatever" about it either. That's specifically why I think he practically melts when Shep trails her hand down that side of his face in the romance scene. And it's why I love that "Hell, you were always ugly, Garrus" line. I think Garrus really wanted the truth right there and he knew Shep would give it to him and she does. Hidden in that statement she makes are two meanings. A) "It's bad." B) "I don't care what it looks like. It doesn't change a thing." She doesn't sugarcoat but she doesn't dwell on it all at the same time. And he gets it immediately. I love that.

Me, too... and it's anything BUT mean to say that.

I think the scars bother him because it's a reminder of how he "failed." Like Sidonis made a permanent mark on him. Of course Garrus is doing the best with what he has so he either mentions that some women do find scars attractive, or giving a friendly jab to male Shepard. I actually did the neutral response to Garrus because I didn't feel my Shepard would call him ugly.

It's kinda weird that several paragon options, this one and the "consider me seduced" line actually sound mean and snippy to some people. I never took them that way. But then again they really match my Shep. She has a snarky smartass contest that is ongoing with Garrus so there's no fear from her that he will misinterpret it.

It's something like "I'm sorry, Garrus. We did what we could. But it's going to show."

I think some of the neutral responses are indeed more "nice" than the top ones. I think they positioned some of the top options as they did so more people would choose them, since I wager a lot of people instinctively just shift the cursor up to the top position a lot of the time. In Miranda's romance, Shepard can say that he only wants sex from Miranda, and that's put into the top option. Bioware advertised the sex of Miranda's romance a lot, so I'm not surprised.

This.  If Meghan stopped being a smartass to him, he'd think she was mad at him.

Well "consider me seduced" is a paragon interrupt. And I didn't construe the top response in the scar dialog as mean. Heck the paraphrase even has the word "buddy" in it. That implies to me it is intended to be familiar and funny.

In some cases I don't the wheel actually correlates to morality. Sometimes it is more like "proceed" at the top and "don't proceed" at the bottom and sometimes it is backwards. Usually there are only two options when this happens.

Oh, jsut saying that I thought some of the top options were strange to be positioned at the top. The consider me seduced thing of course I never saw as mean or anything. But I mean in some cases. Like on Mordin's loyalty mission, a lot of the paragon options have Shepard imply that Mordin is some kind of heartless abomination.

Yea, paragons seem to buy into some kind of "purity of spirit" thing. A lot of their reasons for doing things are justified by stuff like "we should destroy the Collector base because the tech is dirty since people died here." "Maelan's research methods were abominable so his data is tainted." They can be kinda weird like that.  I agree paragon can be confrontational, but I don't think paragon and "nice" are interchangeable words. But usually I'd say paragon ends up being a little more polite or more amiable. Not always certainly.

Another prime example is in the final romance convos: the top option is to end the romance, both in Tali's and in Garrus' case. Is it the same thing for the other romances?

I do think that they tried to mix things up in ME2, so that people would pay more attention to the actual convo choices, rather than defaulting to top for Paragon or bottom for Renegade.

Concerning the Paragon interrupt during Garrus' romance scene, it's not so much that I think Shep is being snippy, it's that I think she's trying too hard to reassure Garrus: making it seem like all he's doing is just right, and Garrus doesn't look like he buys it. If you don't take the interrupt, she's still nice to him, but she does gently tease him by saying "you talk too much", so at least he knows she's being honest.

As for her reaction to his scars, the "you were always ugly" line isn't mean, but to me, it sounds too buddy. I can see a MaleShep or a FemShep who has no intention of romancing Garrus telling him that, but I kinda wish there was a slightly more flirty option at that point. She doesn't need to sugarcoat the fact that he has scars, but she might also say that it's not necessarily all that bad (at least, to her). Then again, you could argue that that would be unwelcome, considering his state of mind at that moment, and yes, I can definitely see that.

I wouldn't mind a flirty response in that spot Nil. I'd take that in a heartbeat. I still like the buddy line though and for my Shep it's in character because she isn't considering a romance with him at that point. She's still thinking about Kaidan.

And as for "consider me seduced" I only think he buys it for a split second and it calms him down which is precisely what Shep wanted. By the time he realizes she was kidding it doesn't matter because he has dropped the whole "seduction" thing anyway. If you don't say that his panic seems to escalate and to me Shep looks like she is just sitting there smiling at his discomfort. It is amusing, but my Shep would want to calm the poor guy down as soon as possible and sweep all that flattery bull**** out of the way. To me, it's her saying "Chill Garrus; it's me. I"m not gonna let lack of good pick up lines screw this up." Garrus gets jokes or at least I think he does with my Shep. I can see how a not so snarky Shep might not say that however.

Pretty good! I checked my screenshots and the line is, "They did what they could, but you're going to have some scars. I'm sorry." I picked the second line to give it straight to Garrus because he'd want to know. I thought the top one would sugarcoat it, but that wasn't the case as I later discovered.

I don't think so.  She flat out calls him ugly.  I think you can tell him the truth without acting like it's a funeral.  She is telling the truth because to her the scars aren't a big deal.  It's not worth him getting worked up over.

I prefer the "neutral" response, but the top one I find is more "friendly" (as in buddy talk), as Raga said the neutral one sounds more clinical and super serious.
