Mostly some sort of change depending on how you mentored him. That does seem to be their intention, anyway.Ragabul the Ontarah wrote...
I know. Overall, it makes no sense for Garrus to go anywhere. But Bioware can always pull something out of left field and they have before. In fact, they almost have to with him or he won't have an arc in ME3. I mean what obvious thing is there left for him to do?

I don't really expect them to resurrect Saren... but if they did, I would think they're even more awesome for it.
No thanks, one zombie in ME is enough.
Zombie in ME?Who?
Oh lawls, it didn't hit me like that with Shepard as a zombie...![]()
Though, Saren as a zombie has already been done by FFtL FF (in a more explicable and alienating way)

Saren was a great villain. In ME2 though we have...Harbinger. The dude who made the Reapers hilarious to me. TIM was also a good villain, but he doesn't count because he's not the main antagonist.Ragabul the Ontarah wrote...
And I think Kim was mostly kidding, but I have to admit a Saren zombie is about the only zombie I would tolerate in ME3. Saren was awesome.

But they still have to concoct a situation in which that change produces consequences. Otherwise, you just get a lot of slightly different dialog that doesn't lead anywhere.

Hey, when it comes to Saren, Kim is never kidding!
And I hated Saren very much, so I don't want to see him return. Zombie, ghost... whatever

Poor Harby gets laughed at with his innuendo lines and funny vids on youtube to entertainment the masses until me3. TIM is an interesting character, since he's probably the only character who could turn against you in ME3 depending on your choice with the Collector Base.

I also think they honestly didn't anticipate the Tali/Garrus popularity. I think they expected the ME1 LIs would remain popular and that most others would go for Miranda, Jacob, and Thane. I think the others were meant to be some bonus fanservicey content. If they planned ME2 with that in mind, it creates a monster problem for ME3 because Garrus and Tali are the most popular characters. I don't think I'm just pulling that statistic out of my ass. Everything I have seen from this site, to other gaming forums, to comments following reviews, to comments on youtube vids seems to suggest that to me.
Yeah Garrus and Tali were the "novelty" romances. Garrus more so since Tali was originally designed as a love interest but was made platonic last minute because developers didn't think gamers would go for her. Its amazing how off they were with the femshep romances though. Jacob was given the most attention but was a giant disaster with the ladies, so much in fact most of us refuse to even TALK to him. Do you think they'll give the Jacob romance an extreme makeover in ME3? I've never known such a negetive reaction of bioware character till Jacob came along

Part of why I'd most like the dreaded Mass Effect movie to be about Anderson and Saren. Seems very interesting, and wouldn't disturb anyone's interpretation of Shepard.
I am not positive any angle will work.

Tali and Garrus really benefit for their incredibly awesome voice actors.
Yes, they do. But believe it or not I've talked to lots of folks who found turians appealing on a physical level. I am one of them. And I do genuinely like his character. All that added together hits the nail on the head.

I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out XD
But back onto topic, I think BW are trying to make it more mainstream when they redesigned ME2. I mean, although the lack of ME1 romance choices there were, at least there were choices that didn't fit any type of stereotype in popular culture, which was why a lot of people really enjoyed the squaddies in ME1. However, in ME2, although there's more choice in characters, a lot of the characters seemed to be rather stereotypical (Miranda, Thane, Grunt, etc.) Not that's a bad thing, just that BW decided not to create more unique characters and decided to cop out with the popular stereotypes. I mean, they expected people to go for Jack, Thane and Jacob because they were designed with the thought of appealing to everyone in the romance department, but in the end, the more unique characters such as Garrus and Tali stand out more.

I am about halfway through chapter 5 of your fic Titanium. It is hilarious. It's like a study in caricatures. Some of the one liners are brilliant.

I am pleased you like it so much. I've taken care to keep the crew in character while allowing them to do some silly things and deliver funny lines. At least, that was the intent. So far it seems to have gone over fairly well. As mentioned before, even staunch Tali fans dig it.

Alexine, do you mean Miranda instead of Jack? Cause I always thought Jack was intended to cater to a niche crowd like Tali and Garrus.
Yeah I very much put Miranda in the eyecandy for the mainstream market. While Jack is the niche "tough girl".

I think they intended for Jacob and Miranda to be the "popular" romances. They are most the casual and sexually orientated romances in ME2. They gave Jacob an enormous amount of stuff in his romance. Miranda's sex scene was advertised all over the place. I really think that they made those two as the "sexy" options.Ragabul the Ontarah wrote...

Believe it or not, I think people hated Anomen from BG2 even more. Imagine a guy who insults you and brags because he feels insecure, gets pissy if you won't take it, constantly asks you for advice and then gets mad about the advice you gave him, has an obnoxious accent, and then finally offers you a sniveling apology. And then proceeds to do all that AGAIN after he apologizes. That guy was a romance pariah. He single-handedly made me avoid playing female characters in BG2. That and the romances for guys were excellent.
I never played a female character on BG2 just because I couldn't stomach the thought of Anomen hitting on me. I never let him near my party.
But yeah...Viconia, Aerie....awesome romance options. Aerie was kinda like Tali, only a little more innocent, and without the underlying badass streak.

I think they did Jack more mainstream to people who like the hardened gal once their shell is broken is all soft and vulnerable inside. Sort of like a Morrigan, since she was more successful.
I didn't put Miranda down, since she's more of a poster girl than the subjugation of mainstream characters in story (she gets arse shots and her sex scene was probably designed as a marketing gimmick). Her personality and backstory and the peace-bottom suit she wears totally alienate to what potiential she could be.
