Are engineers any good in ME1?  I don't like to retcon a character into something else so if I did an engineer I'd one to start all the way back in ME1.  Tried this with Sentinel and found ME1 Sentinel to be pretty boring (effective but boring) so I didn't finish.  Too bad too, that was gonna be my sorta renegadish loyal to ME1 love interest Shep.  I'd like to try Engineer.  Maybe I'll do that with a pure Tali dudeshep.  She'd appreciate it I'm sure.  He can name his combat drone Boo.

To be fair, ME1 combat doesn't really lend itself to gimmicks all that well. You become overpowered very quickly and then it all boils down to just shooting things until they drop. I did an ME1 Engineer run on Hardcore, and even then, I ended up just not bothering with my powers. I think Soldier and Adept are probably the most distinctive classes I've played in ME1. Soldier because it blends in with the fighting style so well, and Adept because Lift and Singularity are ungodly. Infiltrator and Engineer...you just end up being a Soldier clone, mostly. Especially if you pick the AR as your additional weapon. Haven't tried Vanguard or Sentinel, but I'd assume it would be similar. Although they both have biotics, and since those tend to be more effective than tech mines, it might be more of an incentive to use them.

The fact that I remember my Adept run may also have something to do with the fact that I picked a Shotgun as my additional weapon (so no AR), and because it was my Insanity run.

And yeah, I guess it is a little weird to change classes in between games, but combat and storyline are kind of separate in my head, so I mostly do it to try new things out. So far, all my Sheps have changed classes in between games. KaidanShep was a Soldier, became an Engineer, GarrusShep was an Adept, became an Infiltrator, MaleShep was an Engineer, became a Soldier. ThaneShep was an Infiltrator, but I don't know yet what she'll be in ME2. It also makes me laugh to imagine that Cerberus may not have gotten *everything* right during Shep's reconstruction.

@ Icanhazsparklies: Go ahead and give other classes a try! You could be pleasantly surprised. I think my completionist streak helped in that respect, because I pretty much had to try the different basic classes in ME1 to get the power usage achievements. That being said, I can understand the "my first Shep is THE Shep" issue: all my FemSheps look pretty much the same because of that. I just can't imagine any other face on them.

And I love that pic. Although I think the artist said that that was FemShep right after Garrus' RM, when she didn't know whether he'd still be ok or not. I could be remembering it wrong though. As for Garrus, they said it was him after a bar fight: he overheard someone bad mouthing Shep and stepped in to defend her (which is why his clothes are ripped).

@ Nilfalasiel

I think you're right on the picture. I was pulling from memory. I've established said memory to be what we call "not so good." WHOOPS. And I'm almost tempted to start a Maleshep engineer/infiltrator. Almost. Just to have a completely different (albeit less worthy due to lack of Jennifer Hale) experience.

/yawn I should go to bed. So that's where I'm going. Yes. Trying to think of a Turian-related comment or question to part with.

Do Turians need to use lotion? Or are there special "fringe-care" products?

Ugh I'm torn between laughing and grimacing at the notion.

Well, I tend to go out of my way to try to use powers and such even if it is not sensible just because it feels more in character. So I dump most skill points into unique combat skills and save junk like first aid for squaddies.

I've tried every class in ME1 but engineer. I found Vanguard (shotgun,) Infiltrator (sniper,) and Adept (powers) to be the most distinctive. But that could just be because of how I played them. Sentinel just ended up feeling like Infiltrator lite. And I haven't played a soldier since my first playthrough of ME. I don't like pure tanks. So I guess those other classes never felt much like soldier to me simply because I hardly ever play a conventional soldier. Even when I did warriors in DAO, I'd always jazz them up in some gimmicky way. My main Warden is a warrior but she is this weird combination of dual-wielder and archer rather than a conventional tank. I just couldn't find any interesting way to jazz up a Sentinel without making them feel like a Vanguard or Infiltrator. I guess I'll just have to see what I can do with engineer.

It's a good one.  It makes me want to rip that wall out from between them though.:P

I agree! But we all know that wall gets torn down in the end anyway. XD

I found this on youtube ;

Hitting on Garrus after you lock in a romance

So does Garrus say nothing to you after this? Also if hypothetically you broke up with the locked in romance in this instance (I think that means you have that looping convo right before the suicide mission) and then talk to Garrus , does he repeat the reach and flexibility convo? Does he say something new? Or does he say nothing at all still? Just curious.

I prioritize unique powers too...I just can't be bothered to use them when things go down in 2 shots Posted Image ME2 is better in that respect because it's harder to just stay out in the open and pump things full of lead.

I've tried every class in ME1 but engineer. I found Vanguard (shotgun,) Infiltrator (sniper,) and Adept (powers) to be the most distinctive.

I loved Infiltrator in ME2, so I decided to try it in ME1 in retrospect. And I just couldn't get the hang of the snipy in open combat. Sure, it's immensely useful against turrets, or taking out Geth Colossi from distance, but I didn't get any use of it in open combat. Not sure why. I didn't have any problems in ME2.

My main Warden is a warrior but she is this weird combination of dual-wielder and archer rather than a conventional tank.

I've only played a dual-wielding Warrior so far. In fact, I think Warrior's the most versatile class in that game. Sure, they can't cast magic, but they can tank, or deal damage in 3 very different ways (2-hand, dual-wield, archery). I don't like tanking though, it makes me feel nervous. I'd rather leave it up to Alistair or Shale.

I just couldn't find any interesting way to jazz up a Sentinel without making them feel like a Vanguard or Infiltrator. I guess I'll just have to see what I can do with engineer.

Well, for both Sentinel and Engineer, you could try restricting yourself to using their powers almost exclusively, ie. minimal weapon usage. See how that works out. Once your timers are low enough, you'll be able to use them almost nonstop anyway.

@ solid_falcon: Congrats on that pic, really Posted Image

That's a question for Jane as she is our resident "obscure information getter" but I think she is on a camping trip.  She's the one who captured that vid in fact.   But my guess would be that that ends the conversation.  If you act like you really did mean you wanted to spar when you talk about easing tension, I think it ends the loop and shuts off the romance.  So I think shutting the romance off is possible.  I could probably find this out if you like.  I think I have enough strategic saves in ME2 to do it.

My M!Shepard is an engineer. Fun class. I love burning things. My F!Shepard is a Soldier. Got up to the Collector Ship on insanity but had to turn the difficulty down.

This might have been discussed before but I love the way Brandon Keener talks. He puts his accents on the first noun in the word. Instead of regular genius he says "gEA-nys"
"REA-lly"

Well, both "genius" and "really" are normally accented on the first syllable Posted Image

If you mean that he emphasizes the accent more, then yes, he does. But he's not putting the accent on a different syllable than where it normally is.

Now, if he were saying "geNIUS" or "realLY", that would be accenting the words differently.

Yes, saying you want to spar at any time shuts off the romance path.

Noun in the word... What was I even thinking when I wrote that. I had just gotten up. lmao a noun is a person place or thing you silly ninny Dani. My head wasn't on straight.
I like to think I'm more grammatically well informed than that but that post was admittedly baaad, so let me rephrase.

He EMPHASIZES the first VOWEL (not noun) in the word more than normal people do.

That's closer to what I meant.

Man so many great arts are here. Shame that few of them are on DA. I got a little folder there of all the best Garrus works I could find. Ok random time. Which song reminds you of Garrus and FShep? For me it's Genesis-Invisible touch. It sorta reminds me of FShep and the song might be Garrus' thoughts. And it hints at the humour and the caring nature of the relationship.  What do you guys think?

For some reason I'm seeing the backstreet boys with Garrus' head on each one though.

Hey everybody.  Clan V is currently working on a NSFW project inside Clan Vakarian.  This is an art project designed with the ladies in mind.  It'll be a mock magazine featuring the guys of ME.  If you would like to help us brainstorm for ideas or help with the project you can check out the discussion.  Thread title is "Clan V Group Projects-NSFW" in the group Clan Vakarian.
I did mention NSFW, right?:bandit: So I don't want to drop a direct link.  You've been warned.

This song reminds me of the romance the most.  Losing Streak by the Eels.  It even mentions the guy wearing horrible clothes as Garrus does in the romance scene!

Was I wrong about the world
It's a beautiful new place
Where else could a creep like me
Meet such a pretty face?

Meeting every day with the rising sun
Looking up it's looking like
My losing streak is done

Used to always feel like
Wished that I was dressed better
Never had a lot of luck
Until I finally met her

Feeling like the weight that weighed a ton
Lifted off my shoulders now
My losing streak is done

Always felt like giving in
To the feeling I can't win
But I took it on the chin
Now I'm finally cashing in

Meeting every day with the rising sun
Looking up it's looking like
My losing streak is done

My losing streak is done
I said my losing streak is done
Did you hear me
I said my losing streak is done

I'm repeating myself, but oh well, lol.

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. Works from the point of view of Shep thinking what Omega did to Garrus: losing her, the Sidonis situation, morality confusion.

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell?
Blue skies from pain?
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange
A walk-on part in a war for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
What have we found?
The same old fears
Wish you were here

Garrus is my bro. Deadliest bro around.

From now on, I take Tali and Garrus with me to fight the Human-Reaper; that way I can either save my best friend, or my girlfriend. ^_^

Win/Win, really.

On the topic of music this song strikes  my fancy for Garrus

Stop Crying You heart out  by Oasis

and covered by Leona Lewis

here are links to both versions

www.youtube.com/watch  - the original

 www.youtube.com/watch  - the cover

both are good in my book people are ****ing idiots on  youtube.... there is a differences between a female R&B/pop singers voice and  Male Rock Singers voice --  /rant

Hold up
Hold on
Don't be scared
You'll never change what's been and gone
May your smile (may your smile)
Shine on (shine on)
Don't be scared (don't be scared)
Your destiny may keep you warm

Cause all of the stars
Are fading away
Just try not to worry
You'll see them some day
Take what you need
and be on your way
and stop crying your heart out

Get up (get up)
Come on (come on)
Why're you scared? (I'm not scared)
You'll never change what's been and gone

Cause all of the stars
Are fading away
Just try not to worry
You'll see them some day
Take what you need
and be on your way
and stop crying your heart out

Cause all of the stars
Are fading away
Just try not to worry
You'll see them some day
Just take what you need
and be on your way
and stop crying your heart out

We're all of us stars
We're fading away
Just try not to worry
You'll see us some day
Just take what you need
and be on your way
and stop crying your heart out

Stop crying your heart out (x3)
