:lol: Really? I've never played Halo but that sounds hilarious, though I have watched my brother play, and he has a hard time deciding whether to put the AI in charge of shooting or driving (kind of a damned if you do damned if you don't).

The AI is definitely better than ME1 though. I remember many deaths as a result of Wrex and Garrus running in front of me and completely blocking my field of vision, and I can still hear Garrus yelling "Not now Shepard" when all I want to do is take cover.

PS: Love your Avatar.

Well to be fair, the Halo AI has a lot more demands on it.  In that, friendlies have to drive, operate turrets, and a zillion other things so given all that I don't expect too much from it, but it's still pretty funny how often the Arbiter who is supposed to be the awesome Master Chief of the Elites gets shot in the ass.

Your brother actually lets the AI drive the warthog? :blink:  He is a brave, brave man.  Whenever I do that, it either gets stuck or the AI starts driving back in forth in one little area where there is a big rock between me and the tank it wants me to shoot and I inevitably get cremated by said  tank as it lobs a plasma blast over the rock.

And yes, ME1 AI is pretty bad.  The main thing I hate is how nobody will bloody sit still.  I hate all that dodging in and around crates chasing some random merc in a warehouse.  GRRRR.  And the friendlies are also terrible about trying to shoot stuff through walls and obstacles.  The clipping issues are gone in ME2 as is all the random dancing around in fire fights.  I'm pretty pleased with it overall.  I don't like that it seems like snipers like Garrus are sometimes programmed to shoot really slow or miss a bit.  I guess that is so they don't insta-kill everything.  If you are playing a sniper yourself  (as I do) it can mean that Shep steals all the kills and the squaddies never get any action.  Because of that I have taken to using pistols with cryo just so I can set up shots for my squaddies.  It's silly, but I like the illusion of teamwork.  Watching Garrus shatter stuff as he snipes is really satisfying.

And thanks on the thing with the avatar.  I love that Garrus is a total space cowboy.  Chap called Nerjuna made the pic, but I haven't seen him around in a while.

@Kim

Yes, the AI is a little caddywhompus in the whole SM.  Garrus stands on top of cover a lot because he seems to think he is invincible and in general squaddies just stand around and get all confused as the Reaper Larva moves around.  I usually just manually tell them to get out of the way and keep their heads down while I knock it out with the Widow.

I need to learn how to use squad commands. I actually shot Garrus a few times (mostly because in the beginning, I would shoot in the direction of enemy healthbars without realizing Garrus was in front of them), and when Jack jumped in front of the Collector Particle Beam she was on top of cover just like that. xD It looks awesome, but it's not very practical.

garrus could totally stop a missile with his face

when you meet him he stops a bullet with his face and totally wins, hes as hard to kill as Shepard is

I don't really use my squad members all that much, in the really hard situations, they'll just die and I won't revive them because I'm OCD about having a full supply of medi-gel even though I don't ever use it, so i'm just stuck by my self, hiding behind crates with a giant mech directly on the other side =P

Garrus is not only a Space Cowboy, he is also Batman, making him one of the awesomest Mass Effect characters.

It's pretty simple.  Just hit left and right on the D-pad and the squaddie on that side will go under cover wherever the camera is pointing.  I would use it quite a lot, but as Sia said, it's all in spontaneity.  I like waiting for the squaddies to do awesome stuff on their lonesome, rare as that might be.  I only use the commands if we are really pressed or if Garrus is being invincible again and I have to tell the silly turian to get his head down before he gets it shot off.

So forward on the D-pad would be "attack the enemy I'm pointing at," right? I'll give it a try the next time I play ME2. I might play some random battles again with MainShep just to try out a few things before MaleShep makes it to ME2. I'm just very used to concentrating on the enemies and letting the squadmates handle themselves until the game tells me I need to revive them, but now I have this cool image in my mind of MaleShep going all close combat with his shotgun and Garrus shooting from afar with his sniper rifle, competing with MaleShep for kills and sometimes shooting the guys right next to him. It probably won't happen this way in the game, but the thought is awesome.

no, I think forward on the d-pad means both of the characters go there, if you point your reticule toward the enemy then press right or left on the d-pad, that corrosponding character will then shoot at that enemy. Try looking at the tutorial vids on the bottom of sheps computer

you shoulda read those vids.

Yeah, I could just read the instruction manual. xD It does make more sense to have separate "go to" and "shoot at" commands.

If you just do a little button mashing, it usually becomes apparent what does what as the squaddie will usually say something like "going to cover" which of course means that button you just pushed directs them to take cover.  Or they will say "I'm coming" which indicates you just pushed the button for "come here."  That's how I figured it out.

That's good. I'm very used to button-mashing (it's actually how I played most games before Mass Effect). I only figured out squad commands enough to use them that one time the game told me to.

Game Informer just gave me awesome news. :D "The first series of Mass Effect 2-based action figures hits store shelves" on September 5th. I can buy them too! No idea when Garrus is coming out, but I can buy Shepard, Grunt, Tali, and Thane.

You know eventually Mass Effect is going to turn into something like Star Wars, so if you can bear it, keep them in their packages and then sell them when Mass Effect becomes super popular. If you can't bear it, then just buy two of the same figure, then sell one and keep the other

I've never really liked the idea of keeping toys in their packages. How can Shepard save the universe if he's wrapped in a bunch of cardboard and plastic (even if Shepard is made of plastic)? xD Now that I thought of it - when Jack gets her own action figure, the others will break her out of the package like Purgatory.

Game Informer mentioned Star Wars too. If Mass Effect gets that many games, books, movies, toys, and extra stuff... that would be awesome. I'd never run out of Mass Effect.

I want a female turian for one of my MaleSheps too. :) That seems to be pretty common around here.

I liked what I played of The Force Unleashed. Then I got so lost that not even the online guides could help. xD Hopefully the Mass Effect movie is good. My favorite character (Saren) should be in it, so I just hope they don't mess up his character.

 Hey Kim, did you here those muted rumblings about Liam Neeson as Saren?  That would be nine kinds of awesome.  Bioware wants former Jedi to don turian battle armor.  You gotta go down a little ways, but it's there.

I really do hope Garrus is in it, and I hope they use the same CGI that was used in District 9 if you've ever seen it

I did see something about that on the forums, but I don't really know that many actors. xD His name sounds familiar, but I wouldn't know who he is. Most people are saying that's awesome though, so it should be a good thing.

Edit: I haven't seen District 9, but they could probably make a really good turian with CGI.

Liam Neeson is the guy who plays Qui-Gon-Jinn in the Phantom Menace. He's also Schindler in Schindler's List. And he plays the main bad guy in Batman Begins. He also is the voice of the father of the main character in Fallout 3 so if you play it, you will hear his voice.

And I think WETA did the District 9 aliens. They did a lot of stuff for Lord of the Rings and the Narnia movies as well so yea, they would be awesome for ME movie. In fact, Peter Jackson who owns WETA I think was up to direct a Halo movie alongside Guillermo del Toro but that idea got trashed. Peter Jackson to direct Mass Effect would be awesome, but sadly he is working on the Hobbit right now methinks.

Meh, frankly I don't care if the CGI sucks, if they get all the right characters in there and they act right, I'm happy

Just a little question here, why do people say that Garrus is like a renegade? He's not a renegade, renegades kill batarians and push people out of windows and get mad and punch reporters, Garrus doesn't punch reporters when he gets mad, Garrus does some calibrations when he gets mad =P

I saw Phantom Menace! And I think I remember who Qui-Gon-Jinn is... (He was either the one my favorite character killed, or the one who killed my favorite character. Both had awesome jedi skills.) Too bad Saren won't get a lightsaber too.

@ Kim
Qui-Gon-Jinn is the older guy who wants to train Anakin but then ends up dying fighting Darth Maul (spikey head guy.)

@Arterial
I believe the devs call him a "compassionate renegade." He is not a pure renegade, but he is renegade in the sense that he often does the right thing the wrong way if that makes sense.
