I don't think Garrus is standoffish, but he's more reserved in some ways after what happened on Omega. Garrus is comfortable enough with his friends (notice how he's snarky with Shepard and Tali), though.
I agree. Like I said, I don't get that rep.

Garrus seams to be hard to get close to on a personal level. Which probability has to do with the way he grew up and the things he has experienced.

edit: Also seems Mordin was a biotic at some point.
I have *definitely* seen footage of Biotic Mordin somewhere on these forums. I can't remember where, sorry
And to make this Garrus-related, I'll resurrect an old Flammie favorite:
Garrus, but...But, Garrus...Garrus' butt.

It's funny...he was here such a relatively short time, but made such an impact...hehe
And the other day when Googling Garrus pics, the avatar of a chicken in a schoolgirl uniform came up still on page 4. /reminisces while sipping wine

But in ME2 Garrus goes on about how he is not a very good Turian.
Yet in ME1 he pulls the offical Turian line alot.
Omega must have really changed him.
Omega, and also, part of it could also be that while he's often a "bad" turian, he's still very deeply influenced by his culture. Speaking from personal experience, it's really easy to spend a lot of time in one culture feeling like you don't fit in and noticing that people treat you as "different," only to move to another cultural context - perhaps even one the people in the first culture think you are more akin to - and realize that you actually do have a lot of traits or habits from the first culture after all that had been taken for granted.

Last night I introduced Mass Effect to a group of friends of various ages (passing around the controller), including my 12-year-old friend Gabriel. Today, I received this cute little sketch of Nihlus:

He hasn't met Garrus yet. I can't wait to see what he does with him!

I agree that Nihlus is awesome. He was the first turian I saw (aside from the ME1 cover art), and I liked him right away. Then Saren came in and I thought, "Awesome, it's another one! And he has glowing eyes!" And then cool turian number two killed cool turian number one, but soon enough Shepard met cool turian number three at the Citadel. xD

I wish, right?
On my first playthrough I was feeling skeptical and was rather cool towards him, but then I talked to him and was pleasantly surprised that he wasn't racist - and then he got killed. Aw.
The turians in general are such characters, from the noblest to the vilest. I'm putting together a list of the ones that stood out to me. Off the top of my head:
Nihlus - not half bad once you get to know him, and Samara respects him
Saren - he may hate humans, but there's so much more to him than that
Turian Councillor - immortal air quotes!
C-Sec Turian Arguing with Hanar - I am NOT unreasonable!
Septimus Oraka - hopeless romantic when not acting like a general
Executor Pallin - not the friendliest, but not totally unfair, and may have a point
Chellick - appreciates it if you keep your word
Noveria nice ERCS turian - just wants a donut, totally unlike the other guard who's corrupt and mean
Tonn Actus - he's a slimy profiteer, but actually has tactics and is great at running and gunning
Lilihierax - down-to-earth and friendly
Lorik Qui'in - if you betray him, his first thought is to step down and save the company face. Aw...
Dancing Turian - Who is that guy?
Groundskeeper Turian - does he dance?
Etarn Tiron (Rodam Expeditions) - throws himself into retail. Doesn't care that you offed an illustrious member of his species
Friend Zone Turian - Poor schmuck...
Warden Kuril - Lying, hypocritical bastard
Shotgun-obsessed Turian - is going to talk about the shotgun again
Lantar Sidonis - turns out to have a conscience after all
Humans-Are-All-Racist Turian - but it's a ceremonial item of his people!
Zakera Cafe Turian - a food snob, is he?
Ogrinn (of the Afterlife club) - ... um, OK...
...and surely there are many more. Aside from humans, IMHO only the Asari come close to having as many memorable personalities. And I don't like them (sorry, but I can't get over feeling like they're a very fanservicey, stereotyped concept), and their being so measured and diplomatic tones down much of the drama. The Salarians are great fun, but there are so few of them. The Krogan characters are often wry and witty, but also sort of lumbering. So it's usually the turians that are most fun to interact with.

I actually like all species. I hope we get to see more unique batarians in ME3. That's actually still missing.

Turians are my favorite characters to interact with too, and always have been. I never thought much of the asari, but after recent game playing, their flirting, and Liara's romance trap... I really don't like them. I'm not sure which species would be my second favorite because it's hard to choose without being biased. If the choice was made based on the number of favorite characters per species, the second would be humans because of Kai Leng, TIM, Zaeed (he's so awesome that he can count as a favorite despite not being in my game), and of course Shepard. If the choice was based on the species alone, it would be krogan. I like the elcor too, because they're just so hilarious - their speech patterns get them a high rank on the list.

Good list Julian and I agree. The turians have much more personality than the other spiecies.

I'd like to see Garrus in the CG trailer for ME3. Would be epic.
Tali Garrus and Shepard side by side ready to take down the Reapers that would be great (understatemeant).
