Anyway, if anyone has any good Garrus-fiction that keeps pretty close to character, let me know, I need something to study.

Well we know my crap wouldn't qualify since you asked for "good".  ^_^

Moving right along.

1) Is Garrus an only child?

I'm thinking probably so.  Either that, or he's got a "fabulous" older brother that we'll meet in ME3 who's the real black sheep of the family. :P

2) Destined for fatherhood or too busy saving the galaxy to settle down?

He'd settle down with fem Shep in a certain sense, but he's never really going for the wife and kids thing (from what I've seen.  Prior to fem Shep, it doesn't appear that he's had any desire to have any sort of long- term/stable relationship). Okay, fine, most of my female Sheps went for Garrus as an LI, so babies wouldn't be happening in those relationships even if things did go well post-ME3 (unless they're adopted, because mutant babies... just  "eww"  and improbable).  Basically, I just don't see him settling down at all.

3) Enjoys the rain?

I don't see it happening.  Virmire's heat and humidity might remind him of Palaven, but I don't think Palaven got much rain.  If it did, would turians really need those plates?

4) Do you think he grumbled as much as the Krogan mechanic on Tuchanka while he was working on the Mako in ME1?

After a while, yes.  Especially if he had to deal with it after Amanda Jane Shepard got through busting it up.  Again.   "Whatever she was paying Jenkins to fix this thing before he died, it wasn't even remotely enough!"

5) Do you think he's got a sniper rifle akin to Zaeed's Jessie? Maybe not as extreme, but a personal favorite?

He got the Spectre-issue sniper rifles from my Shepards in ME1, so he'd probably consider that a personal favorite/ gift.  Besides that, I don't think he's ever named any of his guns.  He seems more practical than that.

Oh, I love the updated version! <3 Jack. And the artist certainly accurately portrayed the prominence of Miranda's backside vs. her face in the game  (lemme just say here I don't hate Miranda, but I'm not a fan either).

I absolutely adore how Garrus and Tali are the ones sitting beside Shepard.

LOL, someone in the Tali thread remarked that it's always a Femshep in "these kinds of pictures". Works for me, here! :D

And look at Jack--"get the **** away from my ******* nachos, you ****** ****!" XD

Greetings from the Tali thread.

Christina Norman seems to have noticed some Garrus fan art. Very cool.

Someone needs to draw a parkour version of Garrus.

Has anyone else noticed the purple cloth underneath Garrus and Shep? Any significance do you think?

I think it was the couch cover that was meant to keep varren stink off the couch. You'll notice that it's all ripped up and the rest of it is lying beneath Urz.

Who is the elite parkour master of the Normandy? ... Samara probably.

I've done a few "tell me what you think about the character" runs around the forum this morning, but I'm actually having trouble coming up with a few different questions about Garrus. I got as far as...

1) Is Garrus an only child?
2) Destined for fatherhood or too busy saving the galaxy to settle down?
3) Enjoys the rain?
4) Do you think he grumbled as much as the Krogan mechanic on Tuchanka while he was working on the Mako in ME1?
5) Do you think he's got a sniper rifle akin to Zaeed's Jessie? Maybe not as extreme, but a personal favorite?

4) Was it ever actually confirmed that he was working on the Mako in ME1? I know he stands next to it, and presumably that console he's tinkering with does something...but how do we know it has anything to do with the Mako except in regards to proximity?
5) I would think so, but it stills annoys me that his default weapon in the game is an assault rifle. He's a sniper, dammit, why must Bioware make me manually switch out his weapons every single time??  Posted Image

I was actually going to put some thought into it, but then the image of Samara floating popped into my brain. Since the point of parkour is the fastest route from A to B no matter the obstacles in the way, it occurred to me that Samara suddenly trumps everyone.

But in the spirit of parkour, probably Thane. Tempted to say Kasumi, but I think her acrobatics during the Hock Heist were just a tad exaggerated.

If you stand around him long enough, you'll discover he really does work on the Mako. He'll squat next to a tire and, I don't know, work on the combustion manifold or something.

Actually, while he had access to sniper rifles in ME1, I kept him on the assault rifle half the time. It's like that part of his repertoire was completely thrown by the wayside in favor if his sniping ability when it was just one part of his larger skillset before.

I dunno, if Shep got cybernetic mods and you can't necessarily tell by looking at him/her, why couldn't Kasumi be a cyborg?  In that case then the acrobatics wouldn't be so exaggerated.

But I'm with you, I think those acrobatics were a bit over-the-top, even if Kasumi's genetically modded.  It was more like watching an anime vid than Mass Effect, where the physics are generally a bit more realistic (granted it's not a perfectly realistic setting and I don't want it to be!).

They could adopt a turian child and a human child perhaps?

Haha, you realize that if they adopt a turian child Garrus, most likely, would have to take the reins? Humans who adopt humans of other races have enough amusing issues trying to cope with the differences, can you imagine FemShep trying to deal with dextro-amino baby puke?

But now I'm thinking of weird bird-like regurgitation scenarios, and that's all kinds of "do not want"-ness.

@Pacifien - He moves around in ME1?! Oooh, I'll have to sit and stare for awhile the next time I play. ...cuz' that's not weird or anything...

New topic!: Does it bother anyone else how in certain ME fanfics the authors infer that Garrus and FemShep are able to kiss? I don't begrudge them the artistic license, but it kinda rips me right out of the scene. The biggest tragedy of the turian/human coupling (for me) is that they can't kiss, so I prefer the more creative signs of affection than Garrus suddenly being able to manipulate his...mouth plates (??)...as if they were comparable to lips. I might be the only one on this train of thought, though, so I wanted to throw it out there for discussion.

Well while I don't think kissing would be at all good or comfortable (or safe--let's face it, saliva does contain enzymes and amino acids and therefore you've got that risk factor going on) with a turian, I don't think it'd be impossible.  The turian's upper lip is a bit flexible if you watch them talking.  Frankly I'd be more concerned about the teeth.  The turian model in-game has teeth only on the sides, but I noticed that the comic art shows them with teeth in front, too--very sharp teeth.  I suspect that's the more correct interpretation, and that teeth were left out in front in the in-game model because they were likely to clip through the front of the mouth while the turians spoke (which would look very disturbing, not to mention painful).  Of course I have no evidence, but if that's the case then any effort at kissing would need triple caution.  Safer just to give him a peck on the forehead or something if you absolutely had to kiss him and didn't want to lose your tongue in the process.  Besides, the forehead-to-forehead thing is cute and possibly the equivalent of a kiss in turian culture.  Garrus doesn't need Shep's slobber (or any other bodily fluids--anaphylactic shock is bad, people!) in his probably rather dry mouth (come on, his mouth doesn't fully close and he probably swallows his food nearly whole with teeth like those--not a whole lot of need for copious amounts of saliva).

So I guess if people really want to write that a turian and human can kiss, I'm okay with it, but aside from the allergy and the problem of the teeth and the only semi-flexible upper "lip" of a turian, and the dry mouth syndrome they likely have... well, turians aren't mammals.  There's not going to be any slobbery suction going on there.  Oh and I'm sure they taste rather metallic...  Nothing like that battery acid breath, huh?  Basically I think I'd like to see some acknowledgment that maybe, just maybe, being with an alien might not be better than being with a human--which a lot of fics seem to imply it would be.  There would be complications.  Much about it would be uncomfortable even in regard to kissing or snuggling--turians are a very obvious alien this would be difficult with, but let's not forget that Thane causes hallucinations (I'm assuming whether you "ingest" or just kiss him) and is very scaly.  Rub against him the wrong way and you'd probably end up with little cuts all over you, and you might have enough of a bad trip from being with him that you'd do just that in an effort to escape!

But let's assume for a moment that everything fits together okay and you maybe even figure out some way to kiss the turian.  If that night before the Omega 4 relay is on par with being with a human for your Shep, she's either xenophiliac or it's because she cares about Garrus so much that she's willing to deal with it and learn and make it less uncomfortable.  Not to say that it wouldn't be enjoyable despite the discomfort.  However, something about the way Mordin mentions "chafing" and the preventative measures for it makes me think maybe the chafing in question might be in certain sensitive areas.  So I think that would limit things, too.

Edited to add:  And I doubt it's any less uncomfortable/awkward for Garrus, to be honest.  Humans are all squishy and stuff.  Where's he supposed to hold onto that won't hurt her?  Etc.

What I never understood in various fanfics is why having Turians bite is such a common element. Trying to think of it from an evolutionary standpoint led me to some not nice places. Have these people writing these fanfics never been bitten by a cat? Motherf*ckin' hurts, man. And that's before it abscesses.

That's right. Turian bites abscess. Write that into your fanfic.

Ummm... a note on the comic art...
No. it's definitely NOT more accurate.
Feron has 5 fingers.
Turians bleed red.
Turians have no face paint... like none of them do.
Salarians look like they took steroids.

I do not subscribe to the artistic license in the comics. : /
So I'm not worried about turians having teeth in the front. That being said... I don't think turians and humans should be able to kiss easily. Their lips look a bit flexible... and while I think a human could go to town... well, it'd be like kissing a stiff leather ball, er something... it just doesn't work on the turian side of things.

I much prefer the coming up with turian signs of affection.
As for being better than being with a human? Eh, I like when they can show how it's different. Being better is going to depend on the writer, and the reader, really.
Not everyone has the same idea of what's good. One wo/man's squick is another wo/man's kink.

As far as kissing... I look at it like Laurell K. Hamilton wrote about french kissing a vampire (her vamps don't have retractable fangs). Takes practice. The more I think about it, the more I think the two hours before the Omega 4 Relay just wasn't enough for Shep and Garrus (or even Thane) to figure out the logistics.

@Brass - You've hit on every possible concern that I can think of, and more. The women of ME have it bad in the love department; in order to get some they have to put up with allergic reactions (poor Tali), hallucinations and dead wives, anaphylactic shock and chafing, and Jacob.

I've also noticed that biting/nipping is a common element in Garrus love scenes, and the shape of his teeth are NOT conducive to this at all. I can understand the appeal of his "primal" side taking over, and I certainly appreciate all the growling and (ahem) thrusting and whatnot in certain fics, but whats with the constant biting and scratching? Temporary turian love-burn, okay, but now my FemShep has to endure the horrible and possibly disfiguring scars of bite and claw marks?

And speaking of claws, that seems like a moot issue since he could (and probably does, from a hygiene standpoint) trim them...if he has claws at all. It's assumed that turians do sinec they looks like dinosaurs, but quarian hands look very similar and I've never heard it speculated that they have talons.
