Great Gods, I don't recognize anybody here. Clearly I've been away for too long. Or something.

All I've got to say is, after reading Garrus' dossiers, the poor guy seriously deserves a break in ME3. For once I'd like to see something good and HAPPY happen for him. I swear, his life is one disaster after the next.

And to throw my opinion out there on whether or not he'll be a returning squadmate in ME3, I'd say no, I don't think so. I'd hazard a guess that none of the potential LIs will be returning squadmates, at least not until the very end of ME3, if they do return. That's just my gut feeling though - maybe they'll decided to change things up a bit, but can you imagine the uprising if some LIs return as squadmates, and others don't? Not that they couldn't just do it anyway, but would they?

I don't know what everyone's feeling on Liara's return is, but I've basically written her off as having any possibility of being a squadmate in ME3. It wouldn't make sense at this point, and I suspect they're going to do something similar with Ashley/Kaiden. Which leads me to think that all the ME2 LIs will also be similarly separated out.

But I really have no idea what's going on or what Bioware will do because the sky is the limit, so really, anything could happen in ME3. I'm fully confident that they will deliver though, whatever they decide.

I agree. From the banter in ME1 it's clear that Garrus is only professional with Liara.

hmm...ok I am imaging things...will be a very long when I had Me1 last time in my hands... But friends or not they were still fighting together against reapers, geths etc etc...there should atleast some respect for each other?... like I know we are quite different and don't like each other too much but you were fighting with me in darkest hours and you were a really good fighter you saved my ass alot of times, I would never do any harm to you ever.
Ok  I am going to stop, taking some rest... tired... I hope I didn't embarass myself here xD

Professionalism doesn't mean they're not both going to make a play for Shepard.

It'll get messy between Garrus and Kaidan, though.

I really hope thats not the case. That is just way to much wasted potential there, and I would sadly shake my head.

It would be okay with me if Garrus weren't a squaddie as long as:

- he remains a major character with whom Shepard has significant interaction

- he continues to develop as a character

- he's a continued LI (for those that want that)

- he's not used as a sacrificial lamb (unless the player steers him that way)

But I'd rather have him as a squaddie.

I still have my save from before the Liara scene so I can always go back and undo the embrace eternity with Liara thing lol. Nah, I don't really mind that. It was for science. Brian wasn't a PT I planned on seriously importing into ME3 the moment it comes out. The first Shep to be imported is my MainShep who stayed faithful to Kaidan. The second one will be a Shep who didn't play through ME1 and that I started in Me2 and who romanced Garrus. The third one will be a Shep who romanced no one in ME1, Garrus in ME2 and didn't start anything with Liara. The rest is just funplay for science 'n stuff. I have several options. A reason why I play so much. That way I have various Sheps I can import into the last game.
As for Garrus, I want him to be a squaddie in ME3. Same for the VS. It would suck, if the VS were left out in the last game, no matter if they still play a major role. I want them on my Shep-squad, no matter what! *grrr*

EDIT: and what Goofy said!

I really don't care about anyone leaving the SR2, as long as Garrus stays. However, I would prefer everyone aboard during ME2 stay on board through ME3 (except for Jack, I don't care for her.)

I do not really want anyone to leave from the Normandy without a good reason other then "Oh teh noes something happened and I have to run back home for personal reasons and cower from the reapers and stuff. Good luck shepard."

If someone is dumb enough to lose squadmates on the SM at this point, then they should do without.

Harsh but I dont care I got my whole team out, and I damn well expect them back.

That's my general feeling as well.

@Mr.BlazenGlazen - For what it's worth, I really hope not too, but I'm not holding my breath either. I sitll believe in Bioware though, and I think that whatever they decide to do, they are going to do it at the highest level of quality, which ultimately I think will satisfy me. If they go all out and if ME3 is the epic monster that it promises to be, I don't see myself being disappointed. It's the final installment - I believe they're gong to do it justice.

I was thrilled with ME2 though, whereas some were not. For me, it exceeded all my expectations - I was glued to it the moment I turned my console on. Every time I go back to the first game, all I want to do is play the second, and I loved the first game when it came out. So in my case, Bioware has already shown that they are dedicated to putting out a great product and then improving upon it in ways I never imagined - I see no reason why they would do any different with ME3.

So I'm holding out that they know what they're doing and that they're going to do it right.

It's the Brandon Keener curse. His characters just can't catch a break:
-First, his beer gets stolen.
-His boss yells at him
-In which he's a fired clown.
-Ingested
-Rejected
-Ditched
-Drug addict cripple
-He'll play a compulsive gambler who owes millions to a casino in some drama.
I could go on but i won't. :wizard:

Still here? Okay, good, 'cause I'm going to gush about Garrus. XD

FIrst off...I didn't think there was a way for me to love Garrus' character any more than I already did...but now I do.  Seriously, this guy thinks he's a bad turian? I think he exemplifies the best of turian traits.  Loyalty, selflessness, dedication.  He really is the "badass with a heart of gold" that one of the devs described him as.  Learning he had a sister (Solana) was absolutely awesome.  I really want to meet her, she sounds very spirited, and I felt sooo bad about his mom.

The conversation he has with his sister is also VERY telling about his character.  They have absolutely NO idea what he's been doing or going through.  It just makes me want to give Garrus a big hug.

He hasn't told them he quit his C-Sec job, willingly...they think he "lost" it.

He hasn't told them he went to Omega to become a "guardian," to try and root out corruption and criminals and bring hope to the downtrodden...they think it was just contract-work out in some-odd location after "losing" his C-Sec job.

He hasn't told them he gathered a "band of brothers" to take out these elements and that they were betrayed and he, subsequently, was almost killed...they think he just failed in his "contract work."

He hasn't told them he has horrible scars across half his face, with cybernetics keeping the rest together...they just think he's too ashamed of his supposed "failures" to show his face in a video call.

He wants to help his mother and tries to pay...his sister thinks its an empty offer.  After all, how can he have any money if he keeps "failing" at life?  He doesn't get upset...he apologizes when she says "not to pretend to care."  He really can afford to help, though, but what can he say? He can't say he really does have the resources to help, because then they're going to ask: "Where'd you get it and how?" Which means revealing more of what really happened.

And he doesn't want to reveal what really happened.  Why? Because it would terrify or worry his family a great deal.  It's apparent to me their family cares for each other greatly and, being selfless, he would rather they believe him a "failure at life" rather than have them know that he's been zipping around the galaxy with Shepard, fighting the REAPERS and their puppets.

So to help his mom indirectly, he gets help from Mordin and sends in collector tissue samples and a generous (anonymous) donation to a salarian company developing a new treatment for his mother's condition, AND gets his mother accepted into the program with all fees waived.  Because their family is obviously NOT very well off...the treatment isn't covered (by their insurance) and is very costly.

Garrus definitely does exemplify the best of turian traits, I think.  Even if he might not believe it himself, his actions speak far louder than his broken self-image.

It's actually quite saddening. It's like being in an alternate world, where there you accomplish good deeps. However the alternate world to the one you accomplish good deeps in has no idea you've done anything at all. Living two lives if you will, one that grants the gift of good and the other which grants no recognition.

But as god told Bender in Futurerama. "When you've done something right, the world wont be sure you've done anything at all."

It seems like Shepard and perhaps Mordin are the only one who know what Garrus is/has done behind the scenes. Hopefully Bioware will give us the chance to talk to Garrus about it all.

You're right and its poignancy is almost heart-breaking.  The whole situation is unfair, but he seems to just take it in stride.  It also lends more to the response you can make to Liara when she asks (SPOILERS) if you are fighting to give Garrus some peace.(/SPOILERS).

I really hope, in ME3, we can help Garrus reconnect with his family and help them realize the good he's accomplished (although I can see him not wanting that).

And I also hope that he DOES return in force in ME3.  It's the last game of the trilogy, to have him pushed to the backburner for that would be a DAMNED shame...tear and rage-worthy.

i don't think Bioware is stupid enough to sideline any of the Love Interests in Mass Effect 3. Every single one of them has a huge fanbase and it would be a **** to have your favorite character removed because some guy can't do the Suicide Mission right.

Also I want to hug Garrus :(

Eradyn, you have eloquently put into words exactly how I feel about what Bioware did for Garrus's background story. A few people had felt a bit left out that they didn't get what Thane had in his dossier (I won't mention here). But I wasn't one of them, it was beautiful and touching and bespoke of his character more than a few awkward moments we could steal away with him in Sheps quarters.

As for character investment, I have no hate, and now, very little dislike for any of the squad mates. I want them back, they're loyal, crazy, and full of so much win. You can see from the dossiers they have created that there is so much more that can be done with them.

Wow, page overload. To put my thoughts forward. I believe that Bioware will put garrus in as a squaddie. He along with tali are the most popular ones and i'm guessing that since Shepard needs to stop the reapers he/she will need a large and skilled team and so I believe that the old squaddies and the new ones will be in the game. But i have a feeling that garrus will be a squaddie. It doesn't make sense to remove the popular characters. Also expanding on the LI theme as well will be an interesting to say the least. I am holding onto hope that Garrus is in ME 3. And after reading his dossier, he seems to have had a crap life. SO much has gone wrong or was taken away from him. Shepard is the only good thing thats happened to him. Even more so if he's your LI. Still, I'm in the garrus for ME 3 squaddie camp. Heres hoping and like garrus, it's a bit of hope to cling to.

The Garrus dossier actually made him one of my favorites when before I just liked him. I can sympathize with watching someone you love die slowly :(

Also Tali's letter to that quarian family made me feel equally bad.
