The most important thing from the Garrus & Tali romance scenes is how much effort they are putting into making the relationship work. I like the theory that Garrus was so focused on trying to make sure everything was perfect that he forgot he was still wearing his scanner.

I like that interpretation as well.  I'd kill for some fanart of something where Shep takes it off smiling and shaking her head and Garrus looks kind of sheepish.  That's how I imagine it going anyway.

I don't blame Garrus for not picking the best music ever. I mean he had to do research for the entire human race - trying to guess what kind of music Shepard would like would be like finding a needle in a haystack.

That might be why he has it on the playlist, you know. Not because he likes it, but because since he picked it for That Night, its "Their Song," now.

I'm not picking on him. In fact, I think a lot of times people think I am being more critical than I actually am. I am in neutral analysis mode 95% of the time. It's more like "huh, here's a weird anomaly. I wonder why Garrus changed his mind about watching these vids?" rather than "OMG! Garrus is a dickweed for breaking his promise!" It's not that it matters to me a great deal or something. I just think it is interesting to try and come up with a reason why it might be beyond "the devs thought it was funny." I fill in gaps. It's just kinda my thing.

And even if I am pointing out flaws in a character (and I'm not in this specific instance but I was the other day) it still doesn't mean I am dissatisfied. I prefer characters with flaws. It's one of the chief things that makes Garrus and Tali and Alistair so appealing to me in the first place. They are multi-layered, a great combination of noble and questionable qualities. So I will pick Garrus to pieces and be merciless to him, but it's actually because I really like him. He's a great character and that's what makes him worth picking apart in the first place. You can't love people in slices.

*Edit* Was the Flux music on his playlist?

Is that a response to me, Raga? I wasn't really directing my post about the flux music to anyone in particular. Sorry if it came off as saying you were picking on him. Wasn't my intention.

No, not you specifically.  I think I have accidentally stepped on some toes with less than flattering Garrus analysis in the last few days so I was just kind of making a general statement.  I can come off combative a lot of the time so I find it prudent to occasionally remind people I don't mean it that way.  But your statement of "blaming Garrus" is what prompted me to write it, but it wasn't really addressed at you specifically.  It was more like "I might as well say this to be safe."

At first I thought he'd just forgotten about his scanner, but now that LotSB reveals that it can pick up irregularities in heartbeat and breath of all Council species... Wellllll, I immediately thought "that could come in handy for interspecies sex". What can I say? My mind is a corrupt place.

I think I prefer the explanation that he simply forgot, though. It makes him so much more adorkable. :wub:

Anyway, I like the idea of them totally having a good laugh when the Flux music comes on the radio or something now. That would be hilarious.

Totally.  That and the name, "Archangel" will be things he'll never live down for Meghan.

Ah, I see. Part of why I like the characters that I do is because they have flaws. They are not perfect, and sometimes they do fail - something that can do wonders for character development. Part of Garrus' appeal, is that he *is* hurt, that he's not perfect. He's beating himself up over something that wasn't really his fault. This makes him a fascinating kind of dark and tortured character.

 Hey guys and gals!:wizard:

I made a new version of my really old Garrus sketch which I refuse to put on display in here but I would like to hear your comments and critiques on this new, almost completely redone version of him.^^

(I don't know how to get the image visible, I'm such a noob...)

Garrus and Talis akwardness and clumsy, though sincere, efforts also adds some comedy to the situation. If they always are cool, serious and brooding it get's boring.
Garrus almost get's a bit too much brooding. But just almost.

I like the brooding. When you go into the main battery it's like you're in Batman's lair.

I think he actually may like the flux music, but maybe that's just me. Or else he is going on what he saw in ME1 while they were actually in Flux. Mostly, it's just for lulz though. That's one reason I said I thought Garrus might be more goofy than I thought at first. I mean the things he plays on his visor were also put there for lulz by Bioware, but he still does actually listen to that stuff. So it was put there for a simple reason: to give fans lulz, but it still becomes a part of his character in the process and can therefore possibly cast some other stuff he has done in a different light. I think that's the case with the vids statement and all that. It's mostly just funny and endearing, but I think there can be depth in it too if you want there to be. I really do think he was falling back on what worked for turian women and apparently turians and humans actually have a heck of a lot in common, way more than other races in some ways. I mean he even falls back on compliments that he uses for turian women. Yes, for lulz and to make him endearing first and foremost, but it does actually happen in context with other stuff and I think it's fair to consider it that way.

well

I agree.  I like angst.  I admit it.  Lots of people hate it.  I actually like for things to get pretty tense and then come round in the end.

Me and Nilf should totally have a wall of text to the death competition sometime.  Actually, I think we already have.  It's just that we are zombies or demigods and so can't die in the traditional sense. :lol:  Okay, three post obsessive limit.

let me break the curse for you xD
I love your verbal battles. And I love how Clan V always proves its reputation of being the most laid back thread in the forums.....there's just no fighting here.......We definitely make Garrus proud.

Agreed, and I know I really appreciated his humorous side because it really did help take the edge off the angst. His writer is absolutely brilliant.

Garrus little hideaway was adding to his coolness, it's true. But Garrus did have some one liners of coolness to make sure he never crossed the line to become the Baturian. Kind of the same with Tali actualy, her smartass sarcasms realy made her great.

Hmmm...

If Mass Effect was a high school movie....

Shepard = The new kid.
Garrus = The cool guy.
Tali = Miss know it all.
Grunt = Bully.
Wrex = Cool bully.
Saren = The leader of the bad boys. Hates the new kid.
Miranda = The popular girl.
Jacob = Sports guy.
Thane = The daydreaming poet.
Kaidan = Average guy with books.
Ashley = Average girl with training bag.
Joker = class clown.
Jack = The rebel.
Legion = The weirdo.
Kasumi = Gossip girl.
Mordin = Funny nerd.
Liara = Clumsy nerd.
Samara = Hot teacher.
Anderson = Another hot teacher.
Zaeed = Grumpy old groundkeeper.

Did I miss anyone?

Garrus is the cool, kind of mysterious guy who doesn't have many friends. He's friends with the kind, but spunky smart girl (Tali) and Shepard, but not particularly with anyone else - besides the quirky biology nerd Mordin.
