I was lurking in Thane threads back then. My Garrus love was latent and weak. I am ashamed to admit it. Garrus was my favorite, but I sort of purposefully beat my expectations down. I just figured it would never happen so I never really seriously pursued it. Thane seemed a more viable prospect, but I didn't actually even really think they would give us Thane as an LI which is why I just lurked. Anyway, I delurked a few days before ME2 came out and never looked back. I almost feel bad about the speed with which I dropped Thane, but Thane was always just a stand-in and not the the thing I was actually interested in.

Truthfully... I wasn't THAT huge a fan of Garrus. ~she admits shamefacedly~ Yes, he went everywhere with my Shepards, but they were busy making out in the back of the Mako with Kaidan to pay any attention to their long-suffering turian best pal.

Mostly, I just wanted a malien option. Garrus specifically, but I figured female gamers were a minority. Women who wanted a malien option were a minority of that. And women who specifically wanted Garrus were a minority of that so I just didn't want to ever get my hopes up. Plus Garrus is a fairly variable character in ME1 what with it being possible to not recruit him and it being possible to sway him one way or another. Given all that I wasn't holding out much hope for squaddie, let alone LI. We were discussing in the Tali thread the other day that some people think Garrus was kind of stuck in at the last moment in development. I don't think that myself but a lot of people do. I think Garrus love did enjoy a spike after Thane's reveal. A very large portion of the posts in the Thane threads had something to do with Garrus. Garrus was made out to be like Thane's mock archrival or something. It was really funny. There were some epic dev comments about it. I have to fish them up for posterity.

I have a Shepard for Thane too. And they fit perfectly. Actually, every LI has their own Shepard. Well, all but Jacob xD I am even keeping one Shep for Joker only haha. And one Shep, Peter is romancing no one for he had a girl back home (he's a Spacer kid) and he misses her sooooooooooooooooooo much xD

it's worth it. On my first PTs I was so focused on one LI that I got really narrow-eyed.......but the more Sheps I created,t the more I learned to enjoy each of their individual stories and their LIs......it's fun....really.

I have a Thaneshep. She was my second playthrough Shep in fact. And I haven't actually replayed his romance or done any of the DLC with her yet. I need to get on that. I've been doing like 500 different variations of the Garrus romance since. Garrus is cool in that on top of him being your LI, you can renegade and paragon him in various combinations so I am wondering how that might affect his romance in future games. I want to have all the bases covered, you know.
I still haven't done a loyal to ME1 LI playthrough yet either. I don't know if I'm going to bother. If I do it will be with Liara.

But to keep this focused on Garrus I was really stoked when I learned about him and Thane since it finally meant I could romance an alien that wasn't a boring ol' asari.

This is one thing I definitely love about Garrus. He's a very flexible character and you can affect him pretty damn easily with your morality. I especially like how how you treat him in ME1 (paragoning or renegading him) is an imported choice.Ragabul the Ontarah wrote...

There are some things I appreciate about Jacob. You have to talk Miranda, Jack, Garrus, and Mordin out of shooting somebody. Jacob does it all on his own even though the guy he wants to shoot is actually about the biggest jerk in the whole game. I had a lot of respect for him right there. I think there are several really bad lines in his romance and if those got taken away and Hale didn't sound so...desperate, than Jacob would be okay. I still wouldn't be floored by him, but he's a decent guy who gets a lot of hate for unfortunate writing. I like his bropath. It's one of the first times I could just be pals with a dude on the crew in a Bioware game so I appreciated that.

ditto , I don't talk to him at all untill I have to (loyalty) then I'm happy with the bro hug later on. That is the extent of my relationship with him. As for why my renegade is gay, well all the pointless sex you can get with a femshep are with women (consort, kelly) and it stops her romancing Jacob even though his is arguably the most "renegade" romance for the women , it suited a b*tchy femshep to have a shallow fling with jacob but I just can't STAND that dialogue so my b*tch shepard became gay

Yeah I like Jacob too actualy. He is a rather normal kind of guy wich is refreshing with all the odd people Shepard requits in ME2. He is a great bro to all my Shepards. Romancing him however, no please. I just can't take those horrible lines they gave the poor guy seriously. And of course he pales in comparasion with mr Vakarian.

Yea, that one's hard to pass up. There are a few other things that are also very hard for me to pass up. The dialog isn't what turned me off of him. At first it was just because I thought Thane and Garrus were more interesting. Later, I started looking at the character and found some things about him I really didn't like personality and morality wise and I'll just leave it at that. OT and beating up on Jacob has been done to death.
I still don't have a full paragon Garrus yet. My newest Shep is designed for that, but then she somehow ended up with Liara in ME1 so I don't know what to do with her ME2 yet. She's going to get darker. I need to find a way to darken her enough to ditch Liara, but not go dark enough to renegade Garrus. It's complicated.
