And this is how I crossed over from mild mannered fan to raving lunatic fangirl dressed in Garrus apparel clutching my Garrus plushy having dinner at my PC with a Garrus background so I'm not so lonely :P

Ohey, you to? :P

Re: Garrus and Shep

Obviously they aren't equals in regard to rank, in ME1. But that's not quite what I mean by equal. :P And I think it does bear mentioning that of course Garrus defers to Shep...she's the commanding officer, SPECTRE, and all around person he practically begged to join up with. I just think it's important to remind people that he IS his own person. He might defer to Shepard, but ultimately his philosophy, opinions, beliefs, and behaviirs, are fueled by his own self. I say this because there are people who were/are upset that Garrus "changed" in ME2 after they paragoned him in ME1...but what they misunderstood was the true extent of their influence. They weren't a master guiding a padawan and molding him into their chosen image. They were a Spectre offering their opinions to an accomplished adult who considered their opinions and pov because he valued it...a person who still did things his own way while being willling to consider the words of someone in a position he once (and no longer, by ME2) wanted.

And I do look forward to seeing how his character develops. I welcome a change in his personal philosophy, but I would only want it to subtly reflect how the player interacted with him. He NEEDS to be his own person and continue to change as his own person.

Heheh, Mine was, "Spectres do it at gunpoint..." but that might be a bit too much, even for this thread.

Shep and Garrus as Master/Padawan:

I don't see the relationship between Garrus and Shepard in ME1 as a Master/Padawan type relationship.  It seems more like a Master/Knight relationship.  Garrus is not some rookie cop that just jumped onto the Normandy looking for adventure.  He's been in the Turian military for a few years and was a respected investigator in C-Sec.  He may not be an extremely high ranking investigator but he must be experienced enough to be the one to investigate Saren and also to earn the respect of Executor Pallin.  He sticks out enough for the head of C-Sec to not only know him by name but know his skills and personality well enough to have respect for him.  Him being a hothead has more to do with his personality and less to do with his age and experience.  As far as Shepard goes, while Garrus has definitely been through enough to not be considered anywhere near green, he hasn't had his ass thrown in the fire quite as often as Shepard.  Garrus knows that, Shepard knows that.  I don't think he just simply bends at Shepard's will as much as he accepts that she's seen and done a bit more than him and that she probably knows something he doesn't.  That doesn't mean that he doesn't question or disagree with Shepard on anything.  He's a very smart man that does think for himself and will fight Shepard to a point when it comes to differing opinions.  He also knows not to push things too far with a commanding officer.  He knows who's in charge and that sometimes it's not worth fighting the Commander and that it's just better to shut up for the time being.

That's how I see it, feel free to disagree.

But wouldn't that qualify as changing his philosophy anyway? If his philosophy is to trust entirely his own experience, showing him that sometimes, that's not enough, and you have to take a step back and take another perspective would qualify as changing his philosophy. Or, at the very least, influencing it.

I'm not averse to Garrus changing. Every other character does, to some extent, often because of their interaction with Shepard. I don't see why it should be different for Garrus. After all, it's not like he had it all figured out before he met Shep, he actually came along because he wanted to get a different perspective, see how Spectres do it.

Actually I agree with you, I'm just trying to find some kind of middle of the road conciliatory answer.  Though I would say it is more like Shep broadening his philosophy than changing it.  She doesn't disprove all his previous ideas.  It's more like she adds some new ones to the pile.

It's just hard to quantify their relationship in ME1 since it's not textbook anything. The fallback is the padawan/master thing for lack of any better phrase. It would be better if Shep were allowed to take something HE said into consideration.

I've been around enough military men and cops to have some idea of what goes on in Garrus's head.

*snuggles the plushie*

Also, vanguards kick so much ass.  Garrus probably thinks it's sexy when Shepard charges into a Krogan and blasts him in the face with a claymore shotgun and then punches him as he falls.  He's crazy like that.

Also I agree with the knight analogy. I think a lot of grief has been caused over people fishing for proper terminology when really we have mostly been meaning about the same thing.

I LOVE the vanguard class. Very involving and it keeps you on your toes in a firefight.

Also....heh...well, you know what adrenaline and a battle-rush can do...Garrus probably does find it...thrilling. *cough* O:3

I'd probably spaz out if I tried playing a proper Vanguard. CQC makes me nervous.

Nothing like charging a geth colossus and punching it to death while Garrus cheers you on and takes out the rest of the geth.

Heheh, I can so see him cheering Shep on as she wrestles and charges through a horde. X3 I know I've done that many times. Nothing like charging boldly into the fray and taking down a whole squad of enemies, all with Garrus picking off any unfortunate survivors. Yes, I do think that would be "love at first snipe."

This is indeed the case. While he was affected by Shepard's advice from ME1, that doesn't mean he has to completely change. I just like how he's nice enough to have actually considered Shepard's advice and philosophy.

Here's a question for all the ladies here. Do you find anything physically attractive about Garrus and if so what is it? Or is it all voice and personality?

Believe it or not but this was asked by my fiance the other night.

Yep.  I have a thing for turians going back to ME1.  I love the slender waist in combination with the broad shoulders. Lean and spare but strong looking build is also nice.  And I also have a weird thing for turian leg spurs and the fact they stand on their toes, but that's probably just me.  Some combinations of tattoos with eye color and skin color are also very striking.  Nihlus comes to mind.

Voice and personality, primarily. I find myself, on occasion, distracted by his legs. Specifically the upper part.

quite a lot. I have a thing for Turians. It may not be the typical physical features some mention here but it's just an instinct that I feel attracted to them. When I played ME1 for the first time, I messaged a friend on steam who had already played both games and I was like all OMG Nihlus is hawt. To me they are just damn masculine and I have a thing for that. ^_^

Okay, I know I'm about to up my "weirdness" factor a hundredfold (an amazing accomplishment to some :P) but I actually DO find Garrus physically attractive. I don't know if it's in the conventional sense, such as when looking at an attractive (human) guy, but Garrus is from a species that is unique and aesthetically pleasing in its own way. They're strong, have a very masculine build, and are predatory (not in the freaky "omg hide your kids" way). I find that attractive...and it doesn't hurt that they're space raptors with an awesome culture, which is very cool. :P Not to mention Garrus isn't sore on the eyes even compared to his own species.

But my attraction to Garrus has always been driven by the combination of looks, voice (omg, The Voice *drools*), competency/intellect, and personality. Were Garrus a real person (human or otherwise), I would be attracted to them on some level.

TLDR: Yes, I find Garrus to be very attractive.

Don't worry, me too.  I guess I would also add that I think he has beautiful eyes and just has the general strong masculine look.  I find his hands very intriguing.  It might the fact that his talons make him a little dangerous and dammit that's sexy.
I'm also going to sound really weird but I kinda developed a bit of a fang fetish so I find it attractive when he smiles and you just see fang like teeth  *hides in a hole all embarassed now*

@Eradyn
Don't feel so bad.  My fiance told me that if Garrus were real, he wouldn't feel too bad if I left him for Garrus.
