I love what they did with Garrus's eyes in ME2...so cool, I could stare at his eye forever :)

That may actually be my favorite Garrus picture ever. He seems to be enjoying himself very much.

I wonder if it's because they're deep set or if it's because of the plates framing them, but Turian eyes seem to be so captivating.

I was always fascinated that for the most part, you can only see a Turian's irises. And their eye colors always seemed to be light or a mix...which I am a sucker for.

Also, this is slowpoking by a few pages, but...I'm going to have to say that Garrus probably doesn't believe in a peaceful afterlife. Not for the ones he kills, anyway. I guess I am specifically referring to his desire to kill Sidonis for his loyalty focus mission.

Or perhaps I am projecting as I do not wish to grant those I find despicable - as I would put it - an "easy way out."

I tried to click on the link to the poll, but no page will come up... that's strange. Anyway, it would be no contest for me. Garrus wins by far. I don't care that much for the others, but I don't dislike them. Carth is the one exception - I've never played KOTOR (and wasn't able to find it at GameStop when I checked), but I don't like what I've read about him.

@kglaser: If Shepard gets a picture of Garrus in ME3, that one's perfect. :)

I'm not sure what Garrus would believe, but I have a Shepard who would agree very strongly with this. I find a few things about the turian religion a little hard to understand, like the spirits not being good or evil, staying together as a team spirit, etc. I wonder what they think would happen to people who are evil in life, and people who don't belong to any sort of team or family.

Here's the poll link, fixed version. There's a tight battle between Garrus and Kaidan, go do something about it!

Voted for Garrus. :)

I know this is off-topic, but what does HotU stand for? I thought I had heard of all the BioWare games, even though I haven't played all of them.

Neverwinter Nights expansion, Hordes of the Underdark. I never realised there was a romance option, and I should know that game by now... weeeeird.

Thanks. I didn't know the expansion name, just the series name.

To keep it on-topic, a question for all Garrus fans - what is your favorite part of Garrus' character, if you could only choose one? I like everything about his character, so it's hard to choose. I'm still thinking about it, but my answer is probably his opinions of justice and revenge. A very close second is his loyalty. Garrus would follow Shepard to hell and back, and that's exactly the kind of person who's good to have around on missions like this.

@Kim - I love that Garrus doesn't take himself so seriously.  With his sort of character and the rough situations he finds himself in it would have been very easy for Bioware to go with the "rigid paladin/space cop" cliche.  However, Garrus has a very self-aware sense of humor and is normally the squadmate who throws those one liners out there that provide much needed moments of levity.

Jacob is the one who insists that he has everything squared away, but Garrus is the one who makes me believe it through his actions and words - even when following the entire mess with Sidonis.

That's another thing I really like about Garrus. After everything he's been through, he still doesn't break. He stays strong and keeps fighting no matter what, which is also important on a mission like this.

And Garrus' sense of humor is one of the few I actually think is funny.

I like that he is willing to admit and own his mistakes and take good advice when he hears it. Unfortunately, this also means he has a tendency to blame himself too much when something goes wrong even if it really isn't his fault.

I also like all the stuff you guys said.  There's like four hundred things I like about him.  I don't know that this is the top of the list.  More like it is tied with like five other things for first.

And yes, the romance option in HotU is Valen Shadowbreath. He's a tiefling which is a part-demon, tail, horns and all. He had anger issues and was prone to caving things' skulls in with a large flail. Also, his eyes glowed red when he got pissed off. I liked him. Probably my favorite LI pre-DAO.

My Shepards want to talk with Garrus about that and let him know that he doesn't have to blame himself - Earthborn Ruthless in particular. It's like Garrus learned from him, went off on his own, and it ended the same way as one of that Shepard's first real missions (deaths of teammates/friends, feeling guilt, refuses to escape and fights a hopeless battle). He just wants to tell Garrus that it's the fault of the people who killed them, not his own.

Sounds like I would like Valen. I knew his name was cool for a reason.

Anyone else notice just how many times Garrus uses the phrase "Just like old times"? I can think of at least 4 occasions. He must have really missed working with Shepard.

Valen was awesome. From the comments on that poll, it seems lots of people have no clue who he is. That's unfortunate. He would also recount these stories of kills he made in horrific detail to this other great character Deekin Scalesinger (a kobold bard of all things) in an effort to scare him. And Deekin would come back with some other ridiculous story to try to top him. It was hilarious. Ah, Deekin and the doom song. Sorry, I'm sure most people won't get that reference but it was just so darn funny. I think one of Valen's stories went something like "I've turned people into corpses so quickly that their jaws were still flapping as they fell. They didn't realize they were dead yet and kept trying to talk." And Deekin followed it up with something like "I had a dragon for a master who once farted so badly that it killed a whole cave full of kobolds. I stuck my head in a barrel of water and it's the only reason I survived."

Anyway, yes. I agree that getting Garrus to lighten up on himself is an ongoing thing for my Shep. She really resents the whole "Butcher of Torfan" thing and spent a long time beating herself up about it. But now she has gotten over it and tends to get testy with people who blame people when they didn't know what things were like on the ground. And she has a lot of sympathy for those who get blamed when they had to make a hard call or something. So she understands the deal with Garrus and wants him to lighten up on himself.

Some people actually think he says "just like old times" too much and it starts to beat you over the head.  I don't, but I have heard some people say that.

Even though he's dealing with a lot of sh*t, he doesn't broadcast it. He just doesn't come off as a "please fix me, Shepard!" kind of guy.

And I like that.

EDIT: That is not to say that I am at all opposed to him ever opening up to Shepard, of course. Perhaps Shep could do the same. I didn't use or talk to Liara much in ME1, so confiding in her felt odd in LotSB.

I don't think he does as it isn't a proper exoskeleton to my understanding.

Hah!  That's because of where I posted it.

And I still can't vote.

Valen was great.  I ended up playing through several times just to watch him warm up to you.  Plus he was pretty easy on the eyes <3  Now I crave some sort of horrible slash fic with Garrus and Valen in it out bragging each other to impress Shepard :P

I actually like it.  Makes it sound like Garrus is really happy that Shep is back and he's back fighting the good fight again.  Kind of like he's getting some hope back in his life.

Garrus just passed Alistair in the poll. I almost feel sorry for BioWare for their futile efforts to introduce "familiar" human characters for gamer girls to romance...

Wait...really?  He did?  This I gotta see.

I don't feel sorry for BioWare, I applaud them for catering to so many different tastes without cartwheeling off into yahg romance crazyland.

Yeah, it's nice that they did give options. It's just that they guessed the playerbase's preferences all wrong!

Yahg romance? That could be a bit... complecated. Who knows what traditions they'd have. I think that Garrus is probably one of the best LIs because almost every Mass Effect fan appreciates, understands or loves Garrus. He's so much fun!
