You know...I can't believe with all the comparisons between birds and turians no one has mentioned the raptors' weird courtship ritual:
I wonder what turians do to show affection...
"Shepard, if you really care, you'll jump out of this plane..."
"Shepard, would you regurgitate some of that cheese for me? I've decided to try it after all, and incubating these eggs is making me reeeeally hungry. Can we switch in an hour?"
More cute bird courtship:

Re: Eggs, turians and otherwise. I think both turians and krogan give live birth. I don't think turians have a real life analogue that completely matches up with Earth life. Comparing them to birds or reptiles will only get you so far. They obviously aren't mammals, but that's about all I can say for sure. I'm not squicked by eggs. I'm actually one of the ones who thinks "the more alien the better." I actually like turians specifically because they are digitigrade and have fangs. I think it makes them awesome. The reason I think they don't come from eggs is for the reasons already stated. Nutritional problems from twins sharing one egg. The fact that very few egg laying species (even advanced ones like the salarians) lay only one egg at a time. The fact the codex doesn't talk about it plus the way turian population and society seems to be set up. They may be ovoviviparous, but that would still produce the problems of nutrition for twins. But they may be something "half-way" in between like that as are rattlesnakes and some other species that have internal eggs but then give birth to live young. Also, I don't think turian plates are really that hard even when they are grown. Really thick leather is kinda the thing I think so if the plating was to become wet, say, I think it might actually be quite soft and flexible. I think it is the composition rather than the stiffness that provides protection from radiation. And even if they are stiff "real" exoskeletons, I am reminded of certain insects that shed their skin or come out of a cocoon. Their exoskeleton is soft at first but hardens within a matter of minutes/hours. Something like that could happen with turians born live. My point is I don't think plates necessarily means live birth is impossible.
For krogan. Wrex specifically says "hundreds more are lost in stillbirth." Is the term stillbirth used for things that die inside an egg? When Okeer talks about "clutches" I think he is talking about his tank program as in "let a thousand die in a clutch/batch in my lab if it produces the one super-krogan I want." Also, krogan live for 1500 years. That's a lot of time for a female krogan to become pregnant. If she only became pregnant once a year, she has a thousand years' worth of chances for it to work. I could also go into some stuff about krogan society that I think makes live birth make more sense, but I'll refrain for now.
Re: Not talking about Kaidan
I also think it's weird, but I just chalk it up to Garrus knowing my femshep. He knows how much she values loyalty and knows that Kaidan calling her a traitor is not something she is going to tolerate. He also knows she isn't the type to cheat so he figures the only reason she is coming onto him is because she is through with Kaidan. That's how I look at it anyway.
Re: I'd be all over a turian in real life, but probably not Garrus specifically. Relationships with two people who are really disinclined to say a whole lot unless directly asked don't tend to work. I know that from experience. (And yes, in RL I don't say much unless directly asked if you can believe it or not because I like to be able to think about what I say for a while before I say it. You can do that on forums. It's harder in RL.)

After you leave the salarian camp if you take him with you and talk to him he will say "This place reminds me of where I grew up on Palaven minus the geth of course."
I'm totally going to find a savegame just to hear this. I would be delighted if where Garrus grew up had pretty lagoons like that. Interesting that Saren would pick a nice, pretty, temperate place like that. Most of the other bad guys in the game liked to hang out on environmental hazard planets.

speaking of birds courting, check this outwonder if turians do anything like this!
Aww, that's so cute! There was even a moonwalking bird
One of my family's birds has a thing where he strokes you with alternating claws and then ruffles up and snuggles up to you with his face while growling "mmmmmmm!" followed by some beak clicking and head bobbing and mock regurgitation
Maybe turians don't dance because they're afraid it'll be too sexy!

Ha! I would lol if turians turned out to be bower builders. (Google "bird bower" on Google Images if you want to see what I'm talking about.) FemShep returns to her cabin only to find a fort built in the middle of it, strewn with shiny objects, Garrus dancing about next to it.

There's something very "squee-inducing" about the thought of male turians building bower-like structures to entice their mates. XD
Edit: Krogan giving live-birth to a thousand per shot? Yeah, I don't think that's happening. In fact, I think we can comfortably conclude they do not give live-birth. Dying in "stillbirth" may commonly be a term used for live-birth pregnancies, but it is also a term used for eggs. "Stillborn eggs" actually, where they do not hatch out successfully and are, instead, dead in the shell.

Shepard: ...
Garrus: Well? What do you think?
Shepard: It's...nice. ...Are we supposed to live in it?
Garrus: What? No! It's symbolic, ******.
Shepard: Ah.

They don't. They have an incredibly high birthrate. Hence why the genophage was necessary.

I'm sure turians would use better building materials, and/or have ritualized this behavior long ago, such that it's just a form of romantic gift-giving. IF they were bower builders, which there's nothing in canon to indicate they are.Hyrule_Gal wrote...
his room doesn't have a stick hut in it I hope.
But the idea of a stick hut in the middle of Shepard's cabin is what was making me giggle.
