Catch-up post time.

Thanks to Chimervera and Sable Rhapsody for answering my question about the "compassionate Renegade" quote. :)

I voted in the poll that Garrus and Tali should both be squadmates in ME3 (if the player keeps them alive of course, and it would be cool if they were alive for default Shepard too). If Garrus wasn't in ME3, I'd still buy it. I mean, it's the last of the trilogy and now that I've played BioWare games, no other games can compare. And I'm so used to my favorite characters getting killed off by now - I don't like it, but I honestly can't say I'm surprised anymore. I have to watch my favorite (Saren) die with every ME1 playthrough, and if it's the same with any other favorites (TIM, Kai Leng, or less likely - Garrus) then I'll just play through the sad scene like Saren's suicide, not wanting to watch it but enjoying watching the character up until that point. The one thing that would really annoy me would be if Shepard has to die no matter what. I would stop playing before the end game every time. I didn't spend countless months getting these Shepards through the game just to kill them off.

About Garrus, Sidonis, and revenge: choosing revenge, doesn't always leave a character with bad feelings about it. That sort of thing depends on the character. Some can feel bad about it, while others can feel happy, satisfied, and at peace. The fact that both choices get Garrus' loyalty and help him focus for the suicide mission means that he can feel good about both choices - he'll trust, respect, and possibly even love Shepard just the same no matter what happened with Sidonis. The way I see it is this - if Shepard chooses the Renegade path with Saleon, Garrus is happy, satisfied, and at peace. He even says it felt good. If Shepard chooses the Renegade path with Sidonis, Garrus is satisfied with the decision (after all, it was his decision) and more at peace than he was before. It's not possible for him to be happy or completely at peace with his team still dead, no matter what path Shepard takes in his loyalty mission. On some level, he still blames himself. But he does feel better now that it's been taken care of.

About the differences of human and turian "courting rituals": I think this one also depends on the character. For example, some Shepards like the Flux music and some don't. Some people might not like the compliments he used, my Shepard thought they were sweet and a sign that he was really trying. Some like the wine and others might not, but they could still think it's a nice gesture even if they don't drink. Some care about his fashion choices, others don't care or are too busy staring at his fringe to notice, etc.

Also, something random that I noticed when I was playing through Tali's loyalty mission again yesterday. The male quarians have some sort of metal coming out of the back of their hoods that reminds me of Saren's fringe. xD I first noticed it with the hologram of Tali's father, and since then, every side-view of a male quarian reminds me of Saren.

To borrow a line for Mordin.

Its only bestiality if there are no members of that species who can do calculus.

I actually had that argument in my dorm lounge, this one girl claimed that it was NASTY to romance an alien, when I tried to argue it she spazzed and said:
Anyone who romances an alien is SICK!

Then my friend ( who is awesome) said she would rather be probed by Garrus than go anywhere within the same solar system as Tah Prize.

I am having the same problem with my current Adept Femshep, I am going to romance Thane, but I keep yelling at Garrus: STOP BEING AWESOME!
Its SOO hard to avoid I have done it twice now, and need to move on.

Easier said then done.

Does Mordin really say that? xD

The one easy thing about not romancing Garrus every time is that romance never comes up in the conversation unless Shepard brings it up. Shepard never actually has to turn him down.

Okay, somehow I got inspired to build on that "different cultures" sketch from my last post.  Garrus and Shepard discuss their romance, and other things.

Shepard> Garrus, you know, I appreciate that you dressed up in a suit for me...
Garrus> I sense a "but" coming, Shepard.  I wanted it to be special.  I wanted it to be the best date you've ever had.   I didn't want to make it feel rushed, or--
Shepard> Garrus, that's not the problem.  Blue and green can go well together, but, those were kind of... Well, they weren't the best shades to go together.  It wasn't a flattering outfit.
Garrus> (Sounding hurt) Really?  I thought I looked great.   I thought you liked those colors.  They go well with your eyes, and--
Shepard> (uses a paragon interrupt) That's sweet, Garrus, but you have to think about what looks good on you, too.
Garrus> I guess you're right.  Did I, uh, at least get the compliments right?  You didn't seem very... convincing, when you answered.
Shepard> Er... about that.  You didn't sound very, er, sure about my hair.  And the waist thing... Let's just say that most human women aren't exactly flattered to hear that their waistlines are "supportive."
Garrus> Really?  But that's a very appealing feature on a woman.  If she has a supportive waist, she--
Shepard> (paragon interrupt--no, I really don't want to hear the details!) I'm just glad to know I'm not entirely unattractive to you.
Garrus> If that were a problem, then blowing off steam together would've been a lot harder.  But the suit must not have bothered you much.  You didn't even drink any of the wine.  I thought you'd--
Shepard> (paragon interrupt) Garrus, if I had to get drunk to be interested in you, I wouldn't have asked in the first place.
Garrus> (flattered) I guess I'm just universally attractive, then.
Shepard> The best you could afford on a vigilante's salary, huh?  So where did the money you earned on the SR-1 go, anyway?
Garrus> I donated it to charity.
Shepard> Really?
Garrus> I had a job at C-Sec, a steady income. Other people needed those credits more than I did.  So, yeah, why not?
Shepard> Maybe because you don't have a real job, or a steady income now, and you spent most of your money on wine for me?  Next time, you should set up a savings account so you don't go broke.
Garrus> Yeah, I guess you're right.  I still don't regret it, though.  So, you turned off the music.  You didn't like that song?  You danced to it in the Flux.  I remember.
Shepard> About that... Dance music isn't the most romantic for a date, especially if you're planning to blow off steam together.  It's almost as bad as porn music.
Garrus> (sounds bewildered) It is?  But I thought it would get you moving, raise your heartrate, make it all more exciting.  Turian women like it...
Shepard> Human women like slow, quiet music on a date.  It's more romantic, sets the mood.  Of course, if you ever want to dance, then the Flux music is fine.
Garrus> Really?  But that's so boring. Ha!  And, no offense, Shepard, but no thanks.  I've seen how you dance.  Unless... We could go back to your cabin, I could turn the dance mix back on, and we could dance our clothes off, and--
Shepard> (paragon interrupt) That's tempting, Garrus, but we're on duty.

I'm sure you guys can think of more potential culture clashes.

Man, Garrus just wants something to go right and Shepard just throws everything he did wrong at his face. And on top of that, she keeps interrupting him. What a ****. :crying:

OK I'm embarrassing myself by admitting to reading the stuff, but normal, everyday romance novels featuring men have them growling and acting territorial and alpha male like and even purring - pretty much everything up to rutting and it's considered fine.   Not saying they're considered works of fine literature, but don't let that put you off writing.

More Garrus stuff is always good :)

This is true, but you know they'd argue eventually.  Couples in healthy relationships argue.  Couples in unhealthy relationships get into shouting matches and physical fights, or they pretend that everything's okay and build resentment.

Most of my Shepards have enough in common with Garrus that they never even disagree, let alone argue. The Shepard who romanced him only disagreed with him once - about killing Saren. She has the same opinions about Saleon and Sidonis. She liked everything he did in the romance scene - the music (thinking he remembered her trying to get him to dance at Flux), his compliments and everything he said, she doesn't care about fashion, and she thought the wine was a nice thought even though she's not exactly the type to drink. So I don't see them as the kind of couple who would argue.

Not exactly he says that he dosent ever experiment on species that have members capable of calculus.
Giving me a feeling that he would despise a lot of things cerberus does.

Its just to hard to avoid the Garrus romance for me, he is just to awesome.

Or how the hell you get caught by the killer elcor.

[At the C-Sec Office Garrus is sitting at his desk doing paperwork.  Even though there's no paper.]

"Hey, rookie, new case for you.  Think you can handle this alone?"

"I'm sure I can -- the main suspect is an elcor?  Seriously, who's pranking the new guy?  No cool, everyone, not cool."

Me too! I I was fine untill I met him on omega  again and like a smitten puppy, I forgot I was supposed to be romancing Thane Image IPB God dammit Garrus! I'll try to stay away ...I'll try.  Also, I can't believe there isn't any cerberus specific dialog for my sole survivor shep when Jacob and miranda ask you about your squad getting killed. They're all like "oh , a thresher maw killed your team on akuze" and I wanted my shep to yell "THAT'S BECAUSE YOU GUYS KILLED THEM ALL!!!!" Instead I had to act like nothing happened, I just pretended that shep's "I lost a lot of friend's that day, something like that can break you if you let it" was a a snide remark at them.

I was annoyed that I couldn't select  "akuze"  on that dialog wheel every single time a crew member or TIM praised the organization.

Miranda: Cerberus is great! They look out for humans!
Shep: Right so that's why they slaughtered all my mates for science then?

*face palm*

I'll just have to be as defiant as humanly possible.

This is because Cerberus is actually Aperture Science.  They're doing this so they can make awesome guns for someone else.  And that's why Garrus is really okay with working with you while you're with Cerberus.  He knows, sooner or later, he's going to get a really cool gun out of this.

Joking, of course.

That's why I made the Aperture Science reference!  That's the company in Portal.  I think that it's more GLADoS than Aperture Science that's causing the trouble, but then again you're told repeatedly you're being observed and there are cameras... but that's a different game, to be discussed elsewhere.

I guess Garrus joins up with you anyway because he figures if you go through that much trouble to save him from certain death, you can't have changed too much.  Otherwise I'm not sure he would have willingly tagged along (but then again, he is Garrus, and he tends to be unflaggingly loyal to Shepard).  He does sound upset at you for being with Cerberus, after all.

I think that depends on the Shepard, though.  Some Shepards are happy to join the dark side.  Some are even okay with TIM.  My paragons are usually just looking for a reason to betray Cerberus.

Hmmm, what's a good reason for Garrus to keep following a Cerberus-sympathizing Shepard?  Unconditional loyalty?  Refusal to see the truth?  Practicality?  Admiration for who Shepard was?  Anyone have any particular thoughts?

Maybe because he wants to end the Reapers and dosent really care for Cerberus.

However when:

Most squad mates including Miranda want the base gone, and then all of them are glad its gone after the SM I thought it was weird.

However it rolls out in ME3 I am NOT working for Cerberus.

I cant however shake the feeling that no matter what you do in ME2 there is going to be something bad happening.

Yeah, maybe he realizes that as horrible as Cerberus may be, they could be the only organization powerful and rich enough to have a shot against the Reapers (which I have no doubt Shepard has made him believe are a real threat, unlike the Council).
