I would think assault rifle would be standard for most frontline soldiers in big formations. Maybe Garrus served on frigates and such in more specialized strike teams. Turian SWAT team anyone?

My friend at work is married to a guy who's on the SWAT team. Apparently it's not easy to get accepted. She told me a story about how their security system got activated, so her husband went into the house to investigate. He apparently grabbed his M4 out of their car (since they don't have a gun locker, they keep it in the car), and staked out the house before she could come in.
I asked her, "How big is an M4?" She held her hands about a foot and a half apart and said, "oh, about this big."
I told her her husband was a TOTAL BADASS.

I've heard it said that every husband type has some kind of "check out weird noises in the middle of the night" object to use as a weapon. A club, a gun, golf club, whatever. My brother-in-law collects weapons, and he got a replica of Gimli's axe so he had that under his bed for a while. Made all the funnier by the fact is he really short and skinny.

So what do you think Garrus would keep under the bed? A snipper riffle, while cool, wouldn't be useful in up close situations like dealing with prowlers.

A pistol would probably make sense for Garrus. My mom used to keep an aluminum baseball bat next to her bed.
