Aside from eat, sleep, bathe, etc.?

Well, if you romance Garrus, Kasumi mentions that he seems to have a crush on you. So he's done something that shows her that, at some point. It'd be hard to display that if he were just standing silent and alone, calibrating all the time. Garrus himself also mentions that the Cerberus crew is treating him fine. There's at least a non-zero amount of mingling going on.

About half the companions do nothing, while the others have jobs around the ship. Jacob, Miranda and Mordin makes sense to me, since the former two work for Cerberus and the latter was recruited to help with the Collectors.

Tali and Garrus, on the other hand, amuse me because...what kind of shape was the Normandy in before they showed up? I imagine her getting into a battle and losing because Garrus hasn't been recruited and the guns aren't properly calibrated. How guilty would he be if Shepard died again just because he wasn't there?

Anyway, I just finished a ME run (my second complete) and I really like ME Garrus. He strikes me as being less stick up his ass and more intense because he really wants to stop Saren and he's interning, in a way, for Shepard to learn what it's like to be a Spectre and fight injustice without all the red tape. At the same time, he's got a lot of experience and he's going to speak his mind. That's one of the roleplay reasons I take him everywhere; as a detective and C-Sec officer he's going into situations with a different perspective than would a marine (or a mercenary or an engineer) and he's going to, hopefully, notice things that Shepard and the others wouldn't.

I have no doubt, though, that the other companions and crew might find him off-putting, at least at first. He's pretty blunt and sometimes he gets his turian on (like when he chastises humanity for not using the L2 implant anymore despite the stellar results it gets from biotics).

All that being said, ME2 Garrus is the best. His recruitment mission and loyalty mission are both really well done and loads of fun to roleplay, he gets a ton of good lines when you take him places and he's pretty boss in battle. Plus, there's the romance which I find to be very sweet underneath its veneer of double entendres and "I'm going to go watch some porn so I can actually get this right."

Also, scars. Also also, turian Batman. *fans self*

As for Saleon and Sidonis, my Sheps so far (a console and PC version of the same character) are Paragons who do some Renegadey things when necessary. Saleon and Sidonis are different, though. With Saleon, Shep tries to take him into custody for the reasons the game gives her- so they can find out how he did it to avoid it happening in the future. With Sidonis, she is worried about his obssession with revenge from the beginning. There's justice and there's a personal vendetta disguised as justice and she's not certain what side of the line he falls on and she cares enough about him to make sure she's not sponsoring a situation where he has free reign to do something he might regret later.

So she gets the truth out of Sidonis and he walks. Ultimately, it's Garrus' decision. I think that this Shep would have probably not pursued a romance if Garrus insisted on killing him even after he finds out that it wasn't a premeditated, purposeful betrayal and that regret has destroyed his life already. Then it would veer to close to personal vendetta and that's a whole slippery slope.

I'm actually writing three different versions of Garrus. It's making my head spin. In one fic, he's not romanced, he's specifically friendzoned by my Kaidan girl. In the other two versions, he's Meghan Shepard's love interest. But, in what I call the Meghan Prime version, he's following after Kaidan. In the AU story, Persephone Rising, he's evolving from semi-enemy (AU Meghan hates cops worse than Meghan Prime) to good friend through our retelling of ME1.

Since Meghan's not the highest Shepard in charge in PR, I have to think how that would change their relationship. Would he be even more sarcastic? Would he question her more often? What would impact their relationship?

In the bolded above, are you saying one of the Shepard's romanced Kaidan then moved onto Garrus?

I think I have to understand the command structure of PR. Since you say this Meghan is not the highest Shep in charge, is she still at a higher position than Garrus? Would she still be a commanding officer to him? Are they equals?
I'm sorry if this doesn't help. Posted Image

The version of Meghan in Loved was with Kaidan in ME1. But Horizon ended it for her. Right now, she considers herself single. Both to protect Kaidan and to protect herself.

The command structure in Persephone Rising is as follows: Alexis Shepard (Spacer/War Hero/Paragon), CO. Ella Shepard (Colonist/Butcher of Torfan/Renegon) Flight Commander/XO (which puts her directly over Joker). Meghan Shepard (Earthborn/Sole Survivor), Marine Officer In Charge (which puts her directly in charge of the ground teams). Navigator Pressly is still the Officer In Charge when they're off the ship, and Lieutenant Alenko is Meghan's XO, which still keeps him in the command path.

Ah, I see.

If Meghan's the Marine in Charge, meaning she leads the ground team on the missions, then I would think that there would be a least some slight animosity between her and Garrus, a small amount of back and forth banter between them to distinguish that they don't like each other, but they have to work together for the sake of the mission.

Was that any help?

That's actually what I'm going to try to go for.  It's just HOW to do it that's the sticking point.  After all, it's complicated by the fact that she's an ex-con and he's a cop, too.

We'll see what I come up with. ;)

Looks like you and I are in the same boat, except you've actually WRITTEN something. I'm still working on the structure and outline of my fic, and figuring out how much characterization of Cameron, Miranda and Garrus to incorperate into each chapter is going to be interesting.

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. You'll figure something out. ;D You're a smart cookie.

Heh, thanks. I'm using the fics I'm writing to cure myself of "stage fright," so to speak. It's just writing three different versions of Garrus and Tali are a little head spinning.

Ah! I see. I'm sort of doing the same thing, but I'm using fanfiction as a sort of practice to further my writing skills. Not to say that it isn't fun, but I would like to improve. Fanfiction's got this sort of outline you can focus on, something you can fall back on when you're stuck and it helps to boost the confidence.

It helps me, anyway.

Oh, I needed the practice, too, don't get me wrong. I'm just having trouble with the many ways I need to characterize Garrus in all three fics. ;)

Sialater, you have nothing to be scared of. Your work is great! Just look at your abduction of Clan V work! You have a talent. I'd love it if you wrote a Garrus fan fic as I'm sure you'd do it with ease.

Heh, *blush* Thanks.    That's what Loved is, btw.   It's Meghan Shepard's story, but Garrus is a huge part of it.

But I have a lot to learn about writing.

I'm working on becoming a professional writer too--nonfiction science writer, not fiction writer--but some of the principles are the same.  The best writing is rewriting.  It's been rewritten a million jillion times.  And one of the best ways to get rewrite ideas is to show it to other people, especially people who also like to read and write.  The funny thing about good writing is that it's kinda like porn--hard to define, but you know it when you see it ^_^

Also, if you tell Mordin you and Garrus aren't together in that way, the good old salarian doctor mentions your relationship being a ship rumor (afterwards curiously wondering if the rumors about Joker and EDI are "equally exaggerated").

My bachelor's is in Creative Writing.  I will still be learning new things about my chosen craft even if I hit the Bestseller list.

I strongly suspect that Mordin, Kasumi, Joker and Kelly have a secret gossip club together:
Kasumi: "Oh you guys won't belive this! I saw Shep giving Garrus a flirty look today! And Garrus grinned back!"
Mordin: "Noticed Garrus sudden interest in human erotica on the extranet. Implications interesting."
Kelly: "Squeee! They would be so cute together!"
Joker: "Old news guys, I noticed that Shep and her Garrbear was spending a lot of time inside the Mako when it was parked inside the old Normandy."

So I dreamt bioware released a LI centric DLC (my mind makes no sense, cause that would be a lot of work in reality). It basically had a story line for every LI for both ME1 and ME2, focused a lot on your relationship with them.

In other words, I dreamt about Garrus all night. But yeah, DLC that is completely dependent on playthrough... that would be awesome and so replayable.

Yeah I dreamt alot about ME1 and ME2 on my first playthrough. Once I learnt that Garrus was a romance option I dreamt about that too. I don't really remember them though.

I would love a romance DLC. I want to be able to go on a date with Garrus and we get to talk about the future and get to learn more about each other. And depending on the LI you would go different places. I wonder where you would go for a date with Garrus? Too bad this would never happen. I would love if romances matter more in ME3 and we get to go on a date then.

You are very lucky indeed, that is something I have failed to do in the whole almost 12 months I have had and played the game...
