Ok, I was playing ME2 the other day and I'm on my second playthrough and I just finished Garrus' loyalty mission again and something has been bugging me since the first time I played it. You know the part after Harkin gets beat up and Harkin is talking to Sidonis through the computer thing, well do you think the sound Sidonis makes when he replys to Harkin is what turians sound like if they're not translated? Or is that just because it was through the communicator thing?

I just looked it up on youtube, and I think those are just noises from the communicator - something to disguise Sidonis' voice but still allow Harkin to understand him (I'm sure there's a "translation" somewhere).Evelinessa wrote...

Now this brings up the question, what do you guys think a turian's voice would sound like untranslated? The only time we've ever heard anything like it was Saren growling... because that doesn't need a translation.

Insanity. A bit of drooling over turians.... Perhaps the possibility of being abducted by aliens.
If you don't mind me saying... I happen to lurk quite a lot in that group and NSFW thread especially, you guys are awesome but creepy at the same time.

I have to join clan vakarian, I think I joined a less active Garrus group by accident. Also, how do I look at later posts on a fangroup discussion? Mine doesn't appear to let me, I have to go through them one by one... As to how turians sound, I think quite harsh, but not as gutteral as how krogan probably sound. And Evelinessa, I never noticed that, but I never remember hearing anything on Sidonis' side.
I have an opinion to share and I was just wondering what everyone thought of it. I think that Garrus is the character that is the most loyal to Shepard, male or female, and regardless of romance option (in most cases.) He has such a reverence when he talks about Shepard 'the collectors killed you once, and all it did was p*** you off, I can't imagine what will happen next time.' And many other quotes like that. Shepard is his role model, and he respects him/her more than anyone. And, to Garrus, Shepard is pretty much all he has left.
Anyway, just throwing it out there, and wondering what your thoughts are

I agree with your thoughts, but I hope Garrus does find more in his life than just Shepard.

I agree. Even when Garrus wasn't recruited in ME1, I think he's still the most loyal. The same level of trust isn't there though, and neither is the romance.Tasha vas Nar Rayya wrote...

That nice voice effect they have (forgot what it's called) would still be there without the translation, and that's what make them sound so great to me. And for everyone who likes the specific voice actors, I bet that basic sound of their voice would be the same no matter what their language is like. Beyond that, I have no idea.
The effect is called flanging.

I agree 100%. I think what the Shadow Broker said in his dossier, however uncomfortable, happens to be the truth. Garrus is a capable and talented leader on his own merits. He just needs to learn to stop using Shep as a crutch as much as he does. (Though to be fair, all NPCs in video games do this to a greater or lesser extent since you're the super special PC.) He did pretty well on his own on Omega until Sidonis betrayed him--that breach of trust, not Omega itself or any lack in his own leadership abilities, was what sent him tipping a little over the edge in ME2.
I think had Shep been in Garrus's shoes on Omega, Sidonis might not have betrayed Shep. Shepard inspires loyalty and comaraderie in his/her companions like Garrus does. The difference is that Shep, regardless of alignment, also inspires a certain degree of awe and fear in both allies and enemies. The fact that Paragon Shep can instantly quash all of Zaeed's thoughts of vengeance against her with just a few words of warning is proof enough.
