My MainShep is a Sentinel, and it was an easy playthrough of ME1 for me... but I play on Casual, so I'm not sure how it is on higher difficulties. I think most of it is what fits your style best. I tried the sniper rifles in ME1 and couldn't aim at all (although, I was clueless about the battle system and tried them out on my Vanguard).

I bring along whichever squadmates my Shepards would want to be around, so Garrus is a common choice. They all have some reason to like him. MainShep brings him everywhere.

I'm playing on Insanity at the moment with Adept Shep, and Garrus is indispensable.  Between Area Overload, Concussive Shot, and AP Ammo, Garrus can burn through any defense and lay on the train of pain.  I cycle through other party members based on the mission, but about the only character with as broad utility as Garrus is Miranda, and she's not as damage-y, though her squad bonus is amazing.

My main shep is vanguard. Whenever I start a game on an RPG, I like to be anything but your normal 'warrior' 'fighter,' or 'soldier.' Just because I like to cast spells, use my abilities and play the game tactically. I really love biotics, and being a vanguard makes me feel like a battlemage! It also means that people like Garrus are a tactical must on your team. I tried being an infiltrator, but I just prefer the biotic abilities, so I can't believe more people picked soldier than anything else! Crazy!

I always have Garrus on my team too :) Usually accompanied with Thane

I, too, prefer biotics. I've got a "canon" Adept and the infamous Meghan is a Vanguard.

In ME1, my squad was Garrus and Kaidan for both of them. In ME2, my squad was Garrus and Thane/Miranda/Kasumi, depending on the situation.  Though Avery The Adept alternated that squad with Tali and Grunt on occasion.

Garrus fans: What quote from him would you think best sums up his Chaotic Gooditude? Preferably from ME2.

"That's rather ... extreme, Commander."

Somebody please turn the Garrus statistic from this into a forum banner. Resolution/bluriness is not an issue.

That is great! But from people I've talked to about ME, Garrus is always the one they pick. Guys and gals alike love Garrus. But it says 'among the most popular squad members.' Which means he probably wasn't THE most popular squaddie. Although, my personal efforts have likely raised his statistics a lot :)

I was looking through the ME Wiki and found something that made me think of our Earthborn Shepard and Garrus conversation:

Purgatory prison ship: When Shepard finds the body of a dead guard mobbed by escaping prisoners, Garrus will comment that the prisoners there are indeed violent, he doesn't always agree with what the mercenaries do there, but they are keeping dangerous people out for a greater good. If Mordin is also present, he will refute this, claiming that the violence of the rioting prisoners is retribution for the guards' brutality.

So... my Earthborn Ruthless would like Mordin? Didn't see that coming. It's interesting because I thought Garrus didn't approve of beating the prisoner, but this seems to say that he sees the benefits of it and how something like that could work. Does anyone remember his exact quotes here?

Biotics are my favorite too. Actually, they're probably tied with fiery explosions. And when combined... it makes floating, flaming geth. :D My Vanguard is awesome. For Garrus, I use Concussive Shot a lot. I think it's the squad power I've used the most overall. Overload is great too, but I don't get to use it too often. Are there less shields on Casual? Garrus and my Sentinel MainShep were awesome on Tali's loyalty mission though. Tech explosions everywhere. The geth never stood a chance.

@Xilizhra: Making a motivational? I'll try to think of something. Having trouble remembering his quotes at the moment.

Mordin is more about the means than the end, this is evident enough in his personal mission. He would not do something if it meant murder and destruction were required to do it. Garrus, on the other hand, is the reverse.

It only confused me because, from what I remember, Garrus disagreed with guards beating the prisoner a few minutes before this happens. I know from what he said about the Saleon investigation in ME1 that he can be brutal during interrogations. He just seems to have a few different opinions about the same thing here.

'We shouldn'y have let him go, he deserved to be punished.' Maybe? That's on his loyalty mission, and referring to Harkin. It shows he wants to get rid of criminals, but that he wants to go through all the red tape and just kill them rather than imprison them. Hope it helps Image IPB

I kind of wanted to say "I told you so" there. My MainShep did tell Harkin that she wouldn't have shot him in the leg...

Nah, that's... when he's in one of his phases when he's shading out of goodness. Quite understandable at the time, obviously.

Ok, I see your point, I was seeing the 'good' part in the fact that he wanted to punish criminals, but I guess his whole vengefulness can't be considered 'good,' anyway Image IPB
And I always let Garrus shoot Harkin, I like to allow him to make his own decisions and not intervene with his choices. Me and Garrus are both paragades Image IPB

My Shepards agree with Garrus' choices too - shoot Harkin, kill Saleon and Sidonis. Now that I think of it, my Earthborn Ruthless wouldn't have wanted Harkin dead either. He'd be much more amused knowing Harkin was sent to prison with some "old friends" he arrested. xD

Garrus quotes: I've been checking youtube vids where he talks about Omega, since I think that's the perfect example of his Chaotic Good. The best one I found so far is, "You saw Omega - it was full of thugs kicking the helpless. I formed my team to kick back." Will that work?

That quote is definately chaotic good. Totally agree. And 'haha' at the bit I put in bold! I never actually did the paragon choice come to think of it. It sounds like it's worse for Harkin! I usually kill Saleon and Sidonis too, anything for Garrus. If someone crosses Garrus then let's face it, they're already a dead man! Here's a Chuck Norris/Garrus quote I found just to illustrate, there's a website full of them.
'After his deeds on Omega, they named the bridge where he defeated the mercs 'Garrus Vakarian.' Unfortunately, they had to rename the bridge, because no one crosses Garrus and lives.'

No problem. :) Post the motivational here when you're done!

@Tasha: Actually, that is the Renegade choice. Shepard lets Garrus shoot Harkin in the leg, and that's supposed to slow him down until C-Sec catches up with him. MainShep is still angry about the way Harkin spoke to her in ME1, so she wouldn't have just shot him in the leg. Earthborn Ruthless likes the idea of putting a crooked ex-cop in prison, even more so because another ex-cop and a former gang member helped catch him. The irony is priceless.
