When I first played Mass effect 2 and I recruited archangel, and then found out it was no other than Garrus Vakarian, you would have not liked to have been within ear-hearing of me. His recruitment mission is pretty amazing. And his entrance in ME1 was pretty cool too, I loved it when you walked into the med-clinic and there he was sneaking up on the thugs, and then after the fight it was like 'Thanks for the help Shepard, good timing.' Very law and order kinda thing. I loved it!Giggles_Manically wrote...

I knew about him being Archangel long before the game was released, so my reaction to that was just thinking he's awesome. I didn't know about all of the dialogue though, so there were a few nice surprises like Shepard looking like she wanted to hug him and taking that Renegade interrupt with his sniper rifle. I almost laughed out loud at the "you shot me" lines and the Renegade interrupt with that guy fixing the gunship. That interrupt was definitely a jaw-drop moment.

And that reaction is why I committed myself to not look at any spoilers! Imagine my reaction when I discovered Garrus was romanceable when I had a thing for him in ME1! Kaidan is a nice guy, and he has a lot more of a personality than Jacob, but I was thinking of Garrus the whole time

I definately preferred the aliens in Mass Effect 2, I think they were the better characters and more diverse in general. They all had completely different cultures, morals, philosophies and codes to humans, which, to an adventurous person like me, just made them more appealing.
Go aliens!

Also, just thought I would let you all know that I went saw this poll recently, and Garrus was voted for being the best character! Even more so than Tali!
And... out of about 650 votes, Jacob only got one. Lol, bless him www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.226983-Poll-Which-Mass-Effect-2-character-is-a-must-have-in-ME3

Yeah, bioware made me really happy with the triumphant return of Garrus and Tali! Good choice! Tali would totally be my best mate in the Mass effect world. Wrex was brilliant, and I think he does overshadow Grunt a bit. I don't really miss Kaidan/Ashley, especially after Virmire.

Poor Jacob. I think it's mostly FemShep's lines that are at fault there, but people's opinions because of that can't be helped. A lot of my Liara hate is because of a trap romance that wasn't really her fault, but probably just some glitch in the game. Before that, I just disliked her. I'm really glad that Garrus' romance doesn't have any traps like that, and it doesn't feel forced like with FemShep and Jacob. It's possible to avoid the subject of romance completely, so we don't even have to turn him down with Shepards who make other romance choices.

Wow, Garrus and Tali beat everyone else by a lot. xD I should have expected that... but the huge difference in numbers is still a little surprising.
At this point, they're both the most rapresentative character of the ME franchise, after Shepard himself. The difference of popularity between them and the others is hudge, but not unexpected. I thinked that chars like Thane and Mirandda might have more fans, but there aren't any doubts about the winners of these competitions. We have to face it... we're in the winning team
Off course, it's not sayd to be unrespecteful to the fan of the others. I'm not one of those nerdy haters who spits on anyone who dislike his favourite charater. I like mostly the whole ME characters cast, and still I respect the hard work done to make even the ones I dislike.
Speeching about the Archangel thing... I've heard that Garrus came would have been come back in ME2 before bought the game, but I din't know he was Archangel. Off course in the moment was saiyd "he's a Turian" I did 2+2... but that didn't make his entrance less awesome.

I agree that all of the characters are very well made. There are always characters that I don't like because they say things I don't agree with or their personality isn't the type I find interesting, but all of them are believable. If it weren't for the variety, creating several different Shepards would be hard to do, and that's the whole reason I bought ME1.

And my deal with Jacob is that when I tried to get to know him he just brushed me off with the "already, I'm not blabla something with these talks." So I just thought "fine, suit yourself."

I agree. Jacob has steadily grown on me as I've played ME2, also because I carefully worked out the few dialogue options that avoid FemShep's really awful flirting, and they can talk like normal human beings. Jacob is stable, issues-free, and by far the sanest member of your crew. Even the Shadow Broker says so.

Go aliens!
My friend and I, who are both huge Star Wars fans, were talking about this earlier. We found it funny that we find Garrus, a very ALIEN Mass Effect 2 alien, far more appealing than most of the Star Wars aliens (Twi'lek, Rattataki, Miraluka, etc.), who are generally much more humanoid and a lot less different from normal human physiology. I rarely thought of the Star Wars aliens as attractive. I think of Garrus as HAWT DIGGITY DAMN.
Anyone else have that experience? Did Mass Effect make you a xenophile?

Edit: I thought turians were awesome the first time I saw one, which was Nihlus. They're definitely the best designed alien race I've ever seen. But I think a lot of aliens look cool. Since you mentioned Star Wars specifically, I thought Darth Maul looked awesome (even though his appearance is a bit more demonic than alien). I've seen movies where I thought the aliens were adorable.
And the fact that you managed to find the non-flirty dialogue between FemShep and Jacob is amazing. I just gave up.

I would love that they put some romantic jazzy music with Garrus in Me3. I am big fan of Blade Runner love theme
I hope we get more romatic scenes with Garrus and not over again "...before we throw again ourselves to the Reapers" in ME3.... just like we get in Me1 and Me2. I would like some kind of romantic scene similar to the "locker" and ME1 romances when Normandy is grounded ( when Shepard almost get kissed with Kaidan/Ashely but Joker interrupts them) and ofc more convos with Garrus... that rly frustrates me. I mean that can't be just it :/ come on Bioware, Garrus is favourite to everyone and you give him so little conversations and not too much of continuing bromance .PHEW!
Anyway I am just passing by and giving support to my favourite char

Ah, I remember my reaction. I could barely speak lol. He was my favourite yet I never thought they would bring him back considering how much the game ignores him (Ash/Kaidan have the Virmire choice, Wrex can be killed [not that I did], Liara's getting all kinds of dialouge in the crew meetings and mind-melding you, etc.) I thought Bioware would just ignore him and Tali but instead they brought them back and both had gone up a level in badass.Mresa wrote...

I agree on Maul, but ME may be the first franchise where I've found any of the aliens actually ATTRACTIVE. I thought Maul looked awesome--I think Zabraks in general look fairly cool, as do Chiss. But Garrus and Nihlus may be the first male aliens in a sci-fi franchise I've found no-kidding-sexy.
Oh, and for FemShep and Jacob, a good rule of thumb is to pick the neutral dialogue options, and NEVER the paragon ones. Don't ask about his family, and if you do ask about his past or about his relationship with Miranda, drop the subject when he asks you to. I think if you go with that, you'll hit a lot less of the romance trap. There are one or two dialogues where the Renegade option is less flirty than neutral, but I don't remember which ones specifically. My Shepard ended up sounding more complimentary toward him than I'd like--there are surprisingly few ways to just be mean to the Cerberus crew from the get-go, but I didn't get romance trapped which is a WIN in my book.
@Xalena: I liked the ME2 romance music. I actually found the ME1 music more disturbing since the romance theme is the same as the death theme that plays after you Virmire Kaidan or Ash. Also, I interpreted the romance differently. I saw the FemShep/Garrus romance as less about making each other super happy within the context of ME2, and more about giving one another some measure of comfort and peace after all the crap that's happened to both of them. So the melancholy music fit.
And to be fair to Jacob and Miranda, there are some really sweet moments in their romances, even if their final romance scenes border on tasteless. It's a pity, really.

More conversations with Garrus would be nice. Now that the relationship has already been going on for a whole game, it would be kind of funny if they waited until right before the "we could all die" mission again.
@Sable Rhapsody: Over the years, I've probably seen equal amounts of aliens that looked attractive, cute (not talking about romance option cute here, more childlike cute), or "what is that thing?!" xD And thanks for the advice on Jacob. I've read that FemShep can get the same conversations as MaleShep with him, but was too worried about a trap romance in my Garrus playthrough to try.
