As I see it the popularity of characters like Garrus makes a very strong economical incentive for BioWare to include them as possible teammates in ME3.

So we believe, but because of the "blank slate" they're wanting to give newcomers within each game, no character is guaranteed to be in ME3.

The hardest character to kill?  Miranda.  I know she's got her fans, even in this thread, but she lost me when she told Shepard that she had pushed for a control chip in Shepard's brain.  This is not the type of person I want on my team, but she's also the most likely to still be there in ME3.

It would make sense for Garrus and Tali to be in ME3.  They were both squaddies in ME1 and in ME2.  Friendships and romances with them could be more fully fleshed out in ME3 during the course of the plot, so that whatever happens in the ending could have some special comment for them that means more to the player due to how the player interacted with them.  But, having said that, it also makes sense that they will go back to their people to lead them into battle against the Reapers during the endgame.  Garrus has family issues, Tali is probably going to be helping to rule the Flotilla, etc.

As for the Garrus romance thing... I am concerned that he's going to pull an Alistair at the end of ME3.  Of course he's got more spine than Alistair up to that point, but what if the one thing your Shepard needs to do to save the galaxy is the one thing Garrus would never do?  Or what if he comes to believe he has to part ways with your Shepard for his own sake (can't become greater if he's always under the shadow of his mentor)?  Or worse, because you decided to romance him, he ends up doing the Noble Sacrifice?  I'm hopeful this won't be the case, but Dragon Age has made me leery of the endings of Bioware's romance plots.  They won't always end as nicely as we might hope, though considering we will have played Shepard for three games, I think we deserve a happy ending if we want one.

The writers are both very different though behind Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

Besides Garrus is like on of the few squaddies who is not outright "OMG you gave the base to TIM'

What did Garrus say about it? I can't remember.

The Collector Base opinions are kind of weird in that every squad mate on the Normandy after the game is over says something to the effect of "I'm not sure giving the base to Cerberus was the right idea," regardless of whether they supported keeping the base previously. Basically, those who advocated keeping the base do a 180 and suddenly are not sure, or even criticize Shepard for doing what they supported doing o_O (see: Legion)

When Shepard is choosing, Garrus says something suggesting keeping the base. The same thing goes for Legion, Zaeed, Grunt and Mordin. Miranda and Samara are somewhat "neutral" about it, and Tali, Thane, Jacob and Jack are against keeping the base.

I honestly wouldn't put much stock in it because Garrus, Legion, Zaeed, Grunt and Mordin end up questioning keeping the base at the end, anyway. It's hard to say what their real opinion is.

OK...that IS weird. :/

--Which is a shame, because I'm sure the fans of all those characters would have liked to know their actual "opinions"--sounds like BW just rushed this part of the game or something.  I don't know.

I'm curous, does anyone actually know how old Garrus is? I looked around for a while before but could never find anything at all about it. Personally when I first played ME1 I thought he was 23/24-ish. Young, but not too young. Which would make him 25/26 for ME2, which fits the bill for me.

yeah we talked about Garrus' age pretty recently. As to the collector base, on my canon games I always chuck it. And he admires my decision when I go talk to him after the suicde mission, as do all the crewmates. But at the time, I forgot exactly what he says, but it's a long the lines of 'the resources will come in handy, but it's you call Shepard.' He is just fine to trust in whatever Shepard decides. Garrus, you rock!

I would think somewhere between 24 and 30. However, remember half his teen life would've been spent in the military (because of conscription).

I stick with 26-27 in ME1, and 28-29 in ME2.

I agree with Sialater after reading up on what Bioware reps have said. Someone said he is not in his 30s, but I think he is pretty close.

More Garrus is like More Dakka.  It is always a good thing.  And frequently leads to large, loud, glorious explosions.

Okay just dropping this here: I think Saren these days and I think, Kim Shepard, so if your about Kim, you might appreciate this.

It's Sinvraals fanart from Livejournal.

...

I can't decide if he looks angry or happy.  Hard to tell with turians--Saren's either furious or having a hysterical fit of the giggles.

Can't you see him pointing at a cat falling into a fishbowl and saying "HAH!  FAIL!" in this picture?

I love this! An amazing picture of Garrus, I don't understand why people think that Chuck Norris is competition for Garrus. The Saren picture is scary! Those mandibles! Hehe.

Awesome! :D Thanks. Saren looks so cool. And it supports my theory that the purpose of those implants is to keep his mandibles connected to his face.

The first scene I thought of was Saren's fit of rage after he found out about Shepard getting visions from the beacon... but he does look sort of happy there, and the thought of Saren laughing at something is adorable. I know, he's watching MainShep drive the Mako at the exact moment when she discovered that enemies can be ran over. xD

"Argh, ragh, argh" I believe is what the subtitles say. I always was kind of confused as to why he looked like he was smiling.

So I haven't played ME2 in a couple weeks and after having the conversation with him on the Normandy after his loyalty mission I'm having a hard time not starting a romance with him again. My first playthrough was Kaidan in ME1 then Garrus in ME2 and this one will be Liara in ME1 and stay faithful to her through ME2. I want to do all the romances(and I want to do the Garrus one 3-5 times)but I have a hard time not picking Garrus. Does anyone have this problem? I picked the option "Goodbye" instead of "We could ease stress together" so the option for the romance will still be open later if I changed my mind about Liara. I also could watch the romance on youtube a few dozen more times...

Also, has anyone noticed that if you do pick the "Goodbye" option instead of the "We could ease stress together" then he says a couple new lines when you talk to him again?

Another thing I wanted to know is that for those who romanced Garrus, will that Shepard be the first one you import into ME3? And did that Shepard romance someone in ME1 too or was it just Garrus?

I haven't made my Shepard that will be my first to import yet, but that one will be one that will romance Kaidan in ME1 and Garrus in ME2. I will stick with Garrus in ME3. But just incase I somehow get screwed and have to stick with Kaidan no matter what for some reason (which I doubt Bioware will do) and I can't choose Garrus in ME3, then I will have a backup where I didn't have a romance in ME1 and I romance Garrus in ME2.

I have not experienced having a hard time not romancing Garrus, but I do have a hard time not romancing Tali, so don't sweat. It's normal..ish.

I hadn't noticed that, I'll try it out when I get my new xbox in the next few weeks.

As for Shepard imports, I import the male/Ash and female/Kaiden first, so..no.
