I should slap you for that.  Lol, jk.  No, Zeratul is a StarCraft character.  He belongs to Blizzard, not Bioware.

Looking at it from the view of my Shepards, Sovereign's Virmire speech inspired a certain amount of fear because it was their first encounter with a Reaper, one who talked directly to them and told them what their kind was capable of. By the time the Collectors killed them and they came back, it was basically, "We know what we have to do. Kill 'em all!" Their only moments of doubt, if any, are from thinking about the way a strong-willed guy like Saren could be controlled, and how he seemed to have no options. In a way, Shepard got lucky defeating Sovereign. But of course the fact that there are so many Reapers adds to the doubt. My poor MainShep wonders how she can do it when Saren couldn't. My bravest Shepard fears that his "damaged" mental state could be influenced as easily as Saren was, even though he'll never admit that.

Sovereign gave me chills, and I honestly felt pity for Saren, even though he was a (sexy) jerk.  There is nothing scarier than not being in control of your own mind.

I get the distinct feeling we'll get to have all sorts of fun with indoctrination in ME3.  Let's hope they don't get Garrus.  I would cry.  Like a baby.

From my point of view, the only part that came close to scary was wondering how gruesome the liquification of the colonists would be (because I knew about that ahead of time). Turns out it wasn't bad at all.

Yeah, kind of let down.  Just a bit.  You need more than gore and things jumping out of shadows to genuinely scare people.  You want to shake 'em up, you need to make them feel helpless.  Trapped.  Powerless.  You need to remove all sense of control from them, and make them feel like you can take everything they love away at any second.

I had a Reaper rant a while ago, about how they have the potential to be the more terrifying bad guys ever, but meh.  Off-topic TL;DR is off-topic.

He's also filled to the brim with awesome, and I have a platonic fangirly crush on him for his awesomitude.  But that's off-topic.

I think if we do see indoctrination, it'll be on a larger scale than just Shep's team.  Remember, indoctrination requires exposure to a Reaper with an active Mass Effect core, or Reaper tech containing the nanites we saw in ME: Retribution.  Not every single piece of Reaper tech causes it--otherwise the IFF and the cyberwarfare systems in EDI's construction would have caused indoctrination, and ME2 would've been a very quick bust.  Strong-willed people (read: EVERY SQUADDIE) take a lot longer to indoctrinate.

Bottom line: unless one of the squaddie or Shep is a) in close proximity to a Reaper or B) unknowingly implanted with nanites for an extended period of time, they're unlikely to become indoctrinated.  And I bet you anything EDI's black box anti-Reaper algorithms can sense if someone on board the Normandy is seriously infected with Reaper tech.

Well, that's why I didn't know him. He's a character in a PC game, and I don't have a gaming PC. xD I'm about 90% sure Baldur's Gate will work. Hoping for the best with Neverwinter Nights. Eventually, I'll have a gaming PC and the DLC and screenshots and all of those fancy mods. And the Saren statue. (See, I brought it back on topic!)

I doubt Garrus, or any other squadmate, will be indoctrinated. The only way I could see that happening is if they get trapped in a Reaper ship after a mission, and that's more likely to happen to Shepard, who's always the last one to jump off the Reaper ships. Honestly, I'd worry more about Shepard, even though I'm almost positive Shepard would be able to fight it no matter what. Garrus is probably safe. I'm not going to think about the fact that my favorite characters have horrible luck, even when they're the good guys...

Speaking of Retribution, did anyone else think of Saren during those scenes of Grayson being implanted? Because I did. Poor Saren. D: (One of the very few things I agree with Liara about - we both feel bad for him.)

ah Garrus = pure awsomeness

Probably because in my ME1 import save he and Liara have followd me into the valley of death on so many occassions, Ilos, The Citadel etc. I'm torn between which save to use 1st in ME3, my one with the Garrus relationship or the Liara relationship after the ShadowBroker DLC :pinched:

That cabin scene with Garrus is so amusing and special, especially when Garrus is stumbling around trying to compliment shepard and when  they press their heads together and Garrus says that Shepard is the only friend he has left in the galaxy :(

*nods* major awwww moment right there xP. Speaking of indoctrination, wasn't most of when Soverign was defeated falling into the presidium/wards? i get the feeling that there may be issues in ME3 with that tech in the wrong hands since i think Anderson said people had been looting. (the keepers may have hidden the rest)

I guess it migh arrive to Cerberus's hands. TIM is bastard enough to try to assume the control of Shep or of some of his/her squaddies. I still think that it's a concrete possibility to see a traitor in the team, indoctrinated or not ... if it's Garrus it would be one of the most drammatic twists of the saga. But he's officially the most popular male character in ME...

can't see why it would be Garrus, Miranda essentislly told the IM to go  himself, Jack hates him, Jacob dislikes him at the end, the rest of the team I see no reason to defect from Shepard. Liara repaid her debt to Cerberus already so that hopefully rules her out.

I've taken every step to weaken Cerberus in ME2 ie passing data to Alliance, destroying Collector base etc. Hopefully it will reduce the power of Cerberus in ME3. I want to destroy them [apart from the people on my ship who  will defect alongside me in a Red October wayB)]

... or it will give to TIM more reasons to hunt you in search of revenge. The reasons of why Garrus migh be the traitor are various. He trusts Shepard, but he's somehow unstable ... he spent two years of his life doing the vigilante just because he was bored by C-Sec rules, and he saw and did many things that migh be use to push him to the "dark side". I hope it won't happen, but I see this scenario as at least plausible...

hmm...fair point, but Shepard is Garrus' only friend left in the galaxy [especially if you go down the romance option]. I can't see him breaking that pact created in ME1 even if he is unstable.

Not volounteerly probably, but his past actions migh make him more vulnerable to indoctrination, especially if you consider that reapers already broken another strong turian. Also... don't hate me for this considerations I'd prefer to have Garrus with me in ME3, but I prefer to face even the worst situations, unless we'll have something clear about the final game.

But that's part of the reason why we love them so much  Garrus just wouldn't be the same if he had the voice of a hanar for example lol.

I think--or I HOPE--TIM's learned his lesson monkeying around with a) indoctrination or B) Shep.  The thing is that no matter how furious TIM is with Shep, he still knows that Shep is the galaxy's last, best hope.  He spent over 4 billion credits bringing back Shep for the purpose of saving everyone's asses, including his own.  He's not going to really to after Shepard until maybe after ME3--no matter how much they hate each other, if Shep goes the Reapers win.  He knows that.

And I would hope after the clusterfbomb that was Retribution he learned his lesson.  He lost a huge chunk of Cerberus resources and almost his own life due to messing about with Grayson.  He nearly unleashed the Reapers on the galaxy.  Or maybe I'm giving him more credit than he's due and he'll continue messing with stuff that's too big for him until it bites him in the ass.  Lethally.

TIM is smart and quite careful.

Until Drew K assumed direct control of him. And Anderson.

I hated how dumb Anderson was in that book.

I think - romantic line with Garrus - most beautiful romantic line for female-Shepard. I tried to compare all types of romantic relationships in one of my film-story. The main "base" in a story - the musical theme. Also, I was able to "understand" - how to look like a woman - turianki ... In the second part of the plot- you can find an answers at this "difficult» question too:

Mostly I'm just not a tremendous fan of the spinoff material.  I did really like Redemption, and parts of Revelation and Retribution, but the rest was pretty bleh.  Also, I kind of think Kahlee Sanders should die in a blender.  I can't put my finger on WHY I think so, but I do.

Though I did love Orinia, the female turian general from Retribution.  I kind of ship her and Anderson--he deserves someone that cool.

I was going to wait until I had read the whole forum before throwing myself to the masses, but that idea has pretty much gone out the window right now :P
Anyways, about Garrus being indoctrinated, I don't think that would happen.  I don't think any of the squad mates will be indoctrinated.  The Council, however.  I'd put some money on them.  They'd put up no resistence after all, seeing as they don't believe the Reapers exist.  Also, they'd be able to help the Reapers get more humans.  Not Earth, exactly, but more humans in general.  And, if your Shep got their SPECTRE status reinstated then they would be taking orders/missions from the Council.
Slim chance of that actually happening, but I think it would make for an interesting plot twist.

BTW, I have some ME, aka mostly Garrus, fanart on my DevArt account: http://restarose13.deviantart.com/ *shameless self-promotion*

I can't see them making the major betrayer of the team a guy who could already be dead and also an LI. Maybe the LI part but not the potential death part.

Also, I was wandering around tv tropes and I came across a page where people were posting theorys for ME3. Well, one person jokingly posted up a theory that the reason the turian councilor acts that way towards Shepard is because he secretly likes her. What would you guys do if in ME3 the turian councilor became a joke LI(Like Morinth)? I'm not saying it should or would happen(or that I want it to happen) but I wanted to know what you would do and think?

I would think at first think "Ok, really? Bioware What the ****?". But then in some save I would probably do it anyways because more Turian love is always good in my book..lol.

Also, Sialater, I've read one of your fanfics and I think it's really good. One of the best I read :).

This. It makes no sense to have as major of a plot point as forced betrayal from someone who could easily be dead. It's just not a smart allocation of resources.

Welcome!

Actually I think you may be on to something with the council. I haven't thought of it myself but there are alot of people on tv tropes who posted theorys on it. It does seem possible that it could happen.

I really hope there's no forced betrayal from Cerberus in ME3. It just wouldn't make sense when my Shepards haven't given TIM any problems. MainShep gave him the Collector base and the data from that side mission. She wasn't angry with him after Horizon (or any of those other missions a lot of Shepards are angry at TIM about) either. If I had Overlord, she would have let him keep the project just as a personal favor. (I've said it before, she plays favorites. TIM got major approval points for bringing her back to life.) And TIM is a smart guy. He shouldn't betray someone who's helping him, or even someone who betrayed him if they were humanity's only hope. He wouldn't risk testing out Reaper tech on someone as important as Shepard to control him/her. TIM was the one who told Miranda not to put a control chip in Shepard's brain.

Anyway, enough off-topic...

I can't imagine Garrus betraying Shepard either. Shepard is basically all he has at this point, and he's always been loyal to the point that he never really questions Shepard. I don't think he's "unstable", unless we want to say that every squadmate we have is unstable to some extent. For everything that happened to Garrus, he deals with it very well. It's possible that any one of the squadmates could be indoctrinated. I seriously doubt that anyone could resist it on their own. But Saren was indoctrinated for around 20 years in order for the change to be that subtle. There's no time to do that with the squadmates, and if they can't be very subtle, someone would notice. Shepard, Chakwas, Kelly and the others would realize it before they became completely indoctrinated.

Garrus would probably be one of the first to realize something is wrong because betraying Shepard is a thought that would never enter his mind. Sovereign worked with thoughts that were already in Saren's mind to convince him. Saren didn't have someone that he was loyal to and trusted above all others. He didn't have a group with him at all times to notice a change, and those who did... were also on Sovereign. The most important reason of all is that the Reapers would have no reason to indoctrinate the members of Shepard's squad like they did with Saren. Saren was a very important guy with a lot of influence. Shepard's team helps out, but really, Shepard can beat the game without them. Only two squadmates, any two, need to survive. The only one who has any influence is Liara, but the Reapers seem to be past the point of needing someone with inside influence. They're coming right for our galaxy and not trying to keep it a secret any more.
