I plan to never have a single squadmate die.
I totally approve this. Initially I wanted to kill Jack or Samara, but even considering that they're my less favourites it seemed a shame left anyone to die. They're always part of the crew and they enrich the ME universe, besides I like much more other characters. Like Garrus, off course.
You know, I actually ended up killing Thane and Zaeed on purpose in my most recent playthrough, and I don't think I'll be importing a "perfect" ending into ME3 for my canon playthrough. From a metagamey perspective, I love these characters. If it's between them getting cameoed in ME3 (likely for Zaeed being DLC) and a spectacular death in ME2, I'd rather let them go out with a bang.

Yes when you have the time please reload it. Thank you. With squadmates not trusting Miranda and I don't really think Jacob would be that great of a leader, it really makes Garrus seem like the most ideal choice for squad leader which I'm happy with.
Does anyone agree that Garrus seems like he is the best choice for squad leader? I know that Miranda and Jacob are a choice too.
(Sorry if that was hard to read I was having a hard time putting it into a sentence)
I split the duties between Garrus and Miranda--Garrus for first fire team, and Miranda for the second. Granted, I'm a lot more fond of Miranda than y'all are. She herself does admit that she doesn't have what Shep has--that fire that inspires loyalty, even almost fanatical devotion. But Miranda's scarily competent, intelligent, and absolutely unflappable under fire. She does play well in a team, which is what precludes most of the rest of the squad from being potential fire team leaders. (Thane, Samara, Zaeed, etc.) And it doesn't come up on the Collector base, but one thing Miranda has that Garrus lacks is that ruthless devotion to mission success at any cost. Her emotions rarely cloud her judgment the way that Garrus's sometimes do.

And going back to the previous topic, I read a thread once on here entitled 'Is there anyone who doesn't like Garrus.' A lot of people replied to it expressing there love for Garrus, and there was only one person who said that they didn't like Garrus. Her reasons were a bit vague though, this person thought he was 'dull' or 'boring.' So I think they just wanted to be different to what everyone else thought. Garrus is voted as the favourite character usually though, even more so than Tali. I think this is because he really admires and looks up to Shepard, and everyone loves having there ego fed:
'The collectors killed you once and all it did was p*** you off. I can't imagine what will happen this time.'
Also, he supports whatever decision Shepard makes, unlike a lot of the other characters. His loyalty is also the strongest. So everyone loves Garrus! And if they claim not to, then I have never heard of a valid reason why (but, of course, I am slightly biased!)

If I really had to rank the squadmates of both games, Garrus would definitly be high on the list as a favourite.
Someone earlier mentioned about wishing squad were more optional, if that was in a 'recruit' sense we already have had squadmates like that. You don't technically have to recruit everyone in either game. An example of this would by my Renegade FemShep who did actually romance Garrus.
In ME, she didn't recruit Wrex as she didn't trust many alien species, Krogan just seemed like big thugs to her, she wouldn't have recruited Tali had she the choice.
In ME2, she got that choice, and didn't recruit Samara (because she has a real dislike for Asari with their whole 'mind meld' thing) and left Grunt in his lifepod, Legion sent to Cerberus. The only reason she really recruited Thane was because she wanted to make sure he killed Nassana (if he hadn't she would have), Thane was actually the only casualty on the Suicide Mission due to no shield upgrade (took Kasumi to fight Occulus).
I am hoping in ME3 the squad is even more optional. I have no issues with their still being a set number of squadmates required for a specific spot, but it'd be nice if just a couple were 'set' squadmates with the rest optional for us to choose from.
Naturally if Garrus was a choice, he would be a certainty for all my Sheps other than the aforementioned ones where he is dead, because he is one of my favourite squadmates. I just hope they can find a way to keep the love candle burning between him and FemShep. The writing for the romance was really nice (even though I messed up on first playthrough of it, when it came to the 'That's not what I meant' line I chose bottom one instead initially

In ME2, I like the way he says "One less to worry about!" He just sounds so battle-happy. xD In ME1, it was "bag 'em and tag 'em" because it's awesome when characters from Mass Effect remind me of favorite action movie characters (and they do that a lot).Evelinessa wrote...
I have a question. I wanted to know what everyones favorite saying Garrus has during battle?
I agree. Garrus and Miranda are both great leaders, but like Garrus says, half of the crew doesn't trust her. Looking at it from Shepard's point of view, the crew isn't made up of professional soldiers who will follow orders without a doubt even if they don't respect the person in charge. It works that way in-game, but Shepard has no way of knowing that. In Jacob's case, I wouldn't trust him as much because I've never heard anything about him leading a team (though it could have been in the dialogue I missed when I was trying to avoid a romance trap). The problem that a lot of squadmates don't trust Cerberus still remains. Garrus is an old comrade of Shepard's, so if the team trusts Shepard, they're more likely to trust Garrus. And there is that whole "held off three merc gangs with a squad of twelve" thing going for him.Does anyone agree that Garrus seems like he is the best choice for squad leader?
Depending on the Shepard though, everyone will get a turn to lead. EvilShep, for example, would want the person he knows he can trust fighting alongside him - and that's Garrus.
As for killing characters off in the suicide mission... some of my Shepards will, but my favorites will always live. Garrus is safe! My paranoid Sole Survivor will get Miranda and the Cerberus crew killed off. Jacob managed to earn enough trust to live. But, you know, telling a paranoid guy that you wanted to put a control chip in his brain typically doesn't go over well.
This is the only logical answer. Even though my current MaleShep is stuck in ME1 for a second replay, I still play random missions in ME2 again just for the fun of it. I miss that game when I don't have time to play it.Alienmorph wrote...
you can always replay ME now AND immediately before ME3 comes out...
That's my theory too. xD I know I like characters who talk nice to my Shepard and tend to get annoyed by those who talk back (because as we know, Shepard is always right).Tasha vas Nar Rayya wrote...

I'd like a set number of squadmates too, but with all of them being optional. It would be nice if they each had some way to help out against the Reapers without being on Shepard's team, and Shepard could choose if it's more important to have them on the Normandy or working on their own personal mission. That's probably wishful thinking though. I worry that my least favorites are the most likely to be required.Sir Ulrich Von Lichenstien wrote...

Your FemShep who romanced Garrus doesn't trust most aliens, but I assume she recruited Garrus in ME1? (If I remember correctly, it's not possible to romance him if he was left behind.) Does she trust turians more than other aliens, or does she only trust Garrus?

This made me happy and sad at the same time. I'm happy that it's ME3 but I'm sad that it's going to have multiplayer. I just don't want the multiplayer to take away from the great singleplayer experience.

So basically, ME2 was the whole "Lets get them to join the darkside" ala Emperor in ESB
ME3 is going to be the "If you will not join us, DIE!" ala Emperor in RotJ
I think Joker response to the abduction scene could sum this up ie. the only word he pretty much said when not in convo with EDI during it.
@Kim regarding Motoko Shepard who LI Garrus, yup she recruited him. Basically put choosing between Turian and Krogan, Turian just edged it, it came down also to the fact that due to the annoyed reaction of the Turian in the council and of course her knowledge of Nihlus and Saren, she figured that Garrus might give her more insight into the Turian race. She didn't trust him, but it was better than the other option in her opinion (if that makes sense). She began to trust him after the events on Virmire (did that before Therum), basically till then she had only been taking Ashley and Kaidan with her on missions but then had to use someone when she sent Ashley with the STG team and so between Garrus and Tali it was an easy choice because she detested having to bring Tali along in the first place. Course Irony then struck when she had to use Tali to go help Ashley whilst leaving Kaidan at their bomb spot. Once got to Ashley (bye Kaidan :'( ), Tali was booted and back came Ash and Garrus and it was them two all the way to the end, defeating Saren.
One of the things I liked about ME2 as far as Motoko was concerned, she didn't have to recruit Tali (course that meant Thane died on the ship, but he was the only loss). Motoko's surviving squadmates going into ME3 are Garrus, Ashley, Liara, Miranda, Jacob, Jack, Kasumi, Mordin and Zaeed.
It's kind of funny because when they first announced Mordin and after initially seeing him, I really thought she would hate his guts after what happened on Virmire, but when she found out about the Genophage, BING! points for Mordin
Anyway I digress, back to your last question, well, with what I said about Mordin, I think it is probably just a case of her trusting Garrus (and now Mordin too), if I were to sum up her general beliefs of the races, the perfect response I could give would be the one renegades (bottom right) can give to the 2 Asari on the Citadel that are trying to get off of it (whom you can give the 'Forged IDs' you can get during Garrus Loyalty mission).
"Look little girl, when you want a problem shot, ask a Turian, when you want a problem talked to death, ask an Asari, when you want a new problem, ask a Salarian, when you want a problem fixed, ask a Human!"
First time I did that option (funnily enough Motoko was first) I was nearly on the floor laughing and just had me thinking Yup that is SO what she would say in that instance
Whilst it is mostly a case of trusting the individuals, I would say that to some extent she does have a bit of a list of aliens she doesn't have too much an issue with right down to ones she outright hates (Batarian being right at the very bottom), so I guess to some extent Turians probably are high on the list of ones most likely to be ok with. But as far as trusting them, they'd still have to show their worthiness to her before she could.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! *continues with earsplitting squeals*
I have to admit, it is a bit like how I felt before the seventh Harry Potter book. Super-excited, yet somewhat nostalgic. Mass Effect is the first BioWare franchise where I've been there since the start, and the series is my favorite video game series ever after Baldur's Gate.
