Just something I stumbled upon while browsing around for turian art. Sadly it probably have nothing to do with the BioWare turians. Still I must admit I thought this could have been something from a story our dear Buggirl had written.

For some reason, I didn't realize how similar his situation is to Garrus' on Omega. In that case, Shepard just needs to rescue Ben too. (I hope that's his name, because that's what I've been calling him. xD) It does seem like Ben and Garrus would get along, from what little we've seen of him. I'd like him to be a squadmate and romance option... not going to expect it though. But I think he'll be important in some way. It would be cool if Garrus made a similar comment about Ben as he did when we first met Thane about his skills being impressive.Hyrule_Gal wrote...
Hey everyone been away for a while but the recent trailer has got me so excited I had to come backGarrus possibly visiting London??? EEEEEEEE! can't believe my home city might be featured in one of my most favorite games ever! Granted reapers are destroying it but its still very cool. What do you guys think of that british sniper in big ben? I had various reactions to him;
1. wow this reminds me of garrus holding up at his base
2. cool another sniper (snipers= awesome)
3. could totally be a potential friend for garrus
4. Potential LI?

Yeah of course, stupid of me to even imply such nonsense as a mission without my Garrbear.Kim Shepard wrote...

A sniper contest between Garrus and Ben would be awesome, and hilarious if they keep stealing Shepard's kills. I have a Renegade Adept planned out who would be very amused by it. He would just lift all of the enemies with his biotics and watch as Garrus and Ben shoot them all. And possibly keep score while talking like an announcer.

That sounds great. xD Poor Garrus. Wrex was always in my ME1 squad too, but I liked his cameo. Garrus can fight alongside Shepard in ME3, and Wrex can send us a krogan army.Aeowyn wrote...

Lol, yeah I figured that none of it was canon but who started it because basically every fanfic I read has it at some point? I'm still new to fanfiction. My first fanfic I read was a Garrus romance one.Sable Rhapsody wrote...
If anyone does any planning between Garrus and my FemShep, it'll have to be Garrus. She's spent her whole life cheating death time and again, but even she knows that her chances of survival in ME3 are slim to none. She doesn't allow herself to think beyond repelling the Reapers. That being said, fighting is an integral part of who she is. Her attitude is that if she has to go, she's not going quietly.
As for me the player, I want her to survive, and for her and Garrus to run around being badass Spectre power couple. I do want them to get married eventually and adopt kids--normally it's not something I'd go for with someone like Shep, but mine has been starved of family and intimacy her whole life. And the families you run into in ME are far from functional. I'd like to see her get a family eventually, sort of a Harry Potter-esque ending.
This is what I want too. Hopefully if the do include a "What will you do now?" dialogue choice I can pick some specifics for the Garrus romance. I just hope more then anything right now that he becomes a squadmate. Is anyone else going to be really nervous when they start releasing info for returning squadmates?
Ah, the "marking" and "lifemate" stuff... I've seen it in the fanfics. I also hate it, about which I've made my own personal rant in a previous post, my opinion on which I can summarize as: it makes Garrus and turians in general seem too animalistic to think of as a romantic interest for my Shepard. I'm positive the relationships and the culture surrounding them would be different from humans', but it's tiresome to see turians treated as animals running almost solely on instinct. This is possibly why people think Garrus is for furry fans or that romancing Garrus is bestiality.
I'm also a little annoyed at the terms "lifebonding" and "lifemate." The only term we've heard in-game was "mate," which may just be a step past girlfriend/boyfriend and last a couple years, or it may (and more likely does) mean "mate for life." On the one hand clearly casual relationships/casual sex aren't off limits for turians because we know that Garrus slept around at least once, and not once does Garrus refer to the recon scout as his mate, even though we're presuming they mated with one another in the strict definition of the term. But mating with someone and being their mate mean two different things; some people call their spouses their mates--being a mate implies a pairing of some consistency at least on a temporary basis ("I have been living with you for the past half year, so therefore we are mates," as opposed to, "I am sleeping with you tonight, so therefore I am your mate." The latter is only true for that night, so I seriously doubt a turian would actually call a one-night stand his/her mate. Ah, nuances--the difference between a mate and someone you've mated with is a subtle but important one.). This is what I think the turian use of the term refers to--particularly in consideration that among animals, you'd mostly use the term "mate" for creatures that partner up for at least one season (robins) and especially those that mate for life (eagles, wolves), not for things that just mate and part ways (turtles, snakes). You do not generally call the alpha wolf pair "lifemates." Adding "life" as a prefix is unnecessary; I think this is a recently made-up term of modern culture, most likely as a sort of replacement for the term, "soulmate." However, the usage of the specific term, "mate," also implies to me that there's little if any ceremonial or religious significance placed on such a partnership. If that's the case, then there'd be no symbolic markers like rings, no words from a priest, no public spectacle with witnesses like a wedding. At the same time, it would appear that there's at least some social significance to a turian having a mate, considering that the Omega bar turian tells us he's got a mate and a ship, but he only brought one of them to Omega (we have to assume it was the ship as we don't see his mate anywhere). He seems proud that he's gotten away from his mate--a possible clue that once turians become mates, they stay that way (i.e. they can't just get divorced if they're unhappy) even if they part ways. So it may also be a legal institution even if it's not a religious or ceremonial one.
In regard to the relationship between Shepard and Garrus, well, I'd like to see them stay together, but I also don't count on it. They're from two presumably very different cultures, they are not the same species, they're going to have opposition from each other's species due to past enmity, and if one or both of them want children, then all they can do is adopt--which may not be ideal. Let me explain that: a lot of turians and humans still hate each other, so why let a mixed-species couple adopt in the first place? And even assuming that they can adopt, if it's a human or turian child, then the parent of the other species could suffer health risks (or impose them) due to the child. Kids are prone to illness and to injury, so there are lots of opportunities to be exposed to something you are fatally allergic to while caring for that child, and of course plenty of opportunities for the opposite-species parent to expose the child to such dangers, as well. For instance, how do you keep a turian toddler out of the levo-food, especially if he thinks you're Mom and he's seen YOU eat it?
I'm seriously hoping we aren't forced to watch some horrible tragedy where either Shepard or his/her significant other dies, and I'd be especially crushed to see Garrus rush to his death for Shepard's sake. I'd like to see the SO rush to Shepard's rescue, and maybe even be the only reason Shepard survives. I'm not particularly picky about whether we get just ending cards or a "wander around and talk to everyone and THEN get ending cards" type ending, but I do think at some point in ME3, Shepard should be forced to pick which LI (if any) to be with, and also discuss the future with that LI, with those choices hopefully reflected in the epilogue text without the crazy contradictions that were present in Dragon Age: Origins. (Uh, but, Alistair, you DIDN'T become king... Uh... Alistair, LISTEN to me, you are NOT the king... okay nevermind, hold on to your delusions. It might be less terrible than being a Grey Warden and having nightmares constantly anyway.) I also don't want the relationship between Shepard and Garrus (assuming you played that, and many of us have) to get in the way of greater things for Garrus. If being with Shepard is going to keep Garrus from doing something awesome with his life, then as painful as it would be to watch, I think they should break up. But if, on the other hand, they can truly become equals and support each other, then they'd make an even more fantastic couple than they are now--just as long as they don't particularly fancy having kids.
Speaking of... I know enough due to spoilers that Garrus's family evidently has some sort of genetic ailment. Maybe it's even afflicting a lot of female turians (revenge of the krogan???). It could be that Garrus may not want to have any children for fear he'd pass on this same genetic disease. Just a little food for thought.

Are you talking about the LoTSB dossier? That's for his mother's Corpalis Syndrome, a neurological condition. Sounds a little like space Alzheimer's, but there's no indication that it's genetic. The only thing we know is that it's rare, incurable, and debilitating.
As for FemShep and Garrus settling down, having kids, etc., your concerns are precisely the reason why I'd like a relatively open epilogue, one that shows them together with some closure, but leaves all the details up to the player. Each individual's Shepard is different. For example, I'd like to see my FemShep and Garrus eventually form a family and adopt kids, but that's a LONG way down the line, at least a decade out. And if they did, they'd probably adopt older kids, maybe orphans like she was. But whether that happens should be up to each individual player, not BioWare. If someone else's FemShep and Garrus eventually split, that's their business.
