Sorry, I have a question ..
Why Garrus has many detractors?Maybe my opinion does not clear, I am too Garrus nerd. But he's a beautiful character, is matured during the games, is fun and a loyal friend.
And is a good lover.Apart from personal preference, of course, he did something wrong that I can not understand?
I'd say Garrus has fewer detractors than just about any other character. Obviously folks on the forums are quite vocal, but BioWare's data shows that on balance, Garrus is one of the most popular squaddies.
I use to go on all these polls and I noticed that not only is Garrus the most popular character(along with Tali) but he is also in general the most well liked because I remember this one poll I read where you're supposed to vote for one character to cut from ME2. Garrus had the least amount of votes. Only 15 out of 2821 votes. I noticed that when people on the forums say who their least favorite characters are very few people picked Garrus, more people picked Tali(other fan favorite). I also think that Garrus' romance was one of the more popular FemShep options. And the romance is pretty evenly popular between guys and girls. There was alot more polls I read too but I don't remember them and I posted them in this thread a long time ago. Garrus is a hard character to dislike.

Too bad I haven't been able to play a lot of those Shepards yet. My playthroughs keep getting set back. At least when I replay ME1 for a third time with my current MaleShep, I'll get to see more Garrus and Saren and Nihlus and... well, all of the ME1 turians. Lorik, Li, Septimus, the turian councillor (who won't survive his playthrough).

I have such trouble replaying the game with Shepards other than my main one. I think of her as MY Shepard, which makes it difficult to play with other Sheps. But Jamie Shepard, the jerkass sniper of drunk hilarity, is just too much win not to play. He has this whole Crouching Moron Hidden Badass thing that makes his interactions with the crew just priceless. I'm pretty sure poor Garrus is absolutely confuzzled, thinking, "This mouthy idiot is the hero of the Blitz?"
Better than his first impression of Kaliya Shepard, though: "Aren't you a little short to be a marine? Also...you're kind of a cold b****." My Sheps never get off to a great start with Garr-bear.

If your Shep romanced someone in ME1 and then starts romancing Garrus in ME2, why do you think neither Shep nor Garrus ever mention the ME1 romance? Is it bad writing, or do you think it's perfectly in-character? Do you like it this way, or would you prefer the subject to be handled differently?
Personally, I was very tempted by the Garrus romance option in ME2, but I had decided in advance that my Shep would be loyal to Kaidan no matter what. It was very difficult at times, though! At such times, I did wonder why one couldn't give the fact that matters remained unresolved with one's previous LI as a reason for not going forward witha new one - to show interest, but to say that nothing could be done about it until Shep was sure where she stood. Of course, some people do take Horizon as a break-up, but I think it's a bit trickier in the case of Liara. Thoughts?

Like w/Tali, I don't think it's part of Garrus' character. I'm inclined to say/suspect that it's simply more indication of lackluster implementation of imported save data from ME1. When you've got many things ported over simply resulting in emails (or even nothing at all), it's not surprising that Garrus & Tali don't mention prior love interests.
I'm having trouble seeing either Garrus or Tali bringing it up. Bless their little hearts, they do their best to not make Shep's life suck. Especially Garrus, who even conceals his personal troubles from Shep. I have a hard time seeing them saying, "Hey, your lover and our former comrade whom you're screwing around on with me? Let's talk about them!" No matter what, that can't be comfortable. They're probably just happy making Shep happy, and figure they'll deal with the fallout if they survive the mission.

I think Garrus actually expects Shep to move on.
Agreed. I think both Garrus and Tali have a bit of a, "Wait, this is actually happening to me?" sort of attitude. For Tali, who according to the romance has had feelings for ManShep for a while now, it might feel a little too good to be true. And Garrus is simply flabbergasted that FemShep has the hots for him, the seven foot lizard/bird/cat man rather than smooth Thane or ab-tastic Jacob.
As for Shep not bringing it up...I don't know. I think that may be a function of limited import capability, since I'm sure some Sheps would have liked to reassure their new LI or at least bring it up. But in general, it makes sense in context of the suicide mission. We the players know this is a game and from a meta perspective it's hard to get a lot of people killed. But the characters know none of that. They don't even know that it's a base rather than a planet that awaits them. They have no idea if they're going to live another 24 hours. Can't blame Shep for living in the moment and throwing any considerations of the future or the past to hell.

Regarding Garrus and not asking about the ME1 romance:
You can only recruit Tali after Horizon (unless you use gibbed) and I've never been able to get the reach and flexibility convo before Horizon either. So I guess they just assume that Shepard is ready to move on, and they have no reason to question her.
Strange how they don't mention Liara though, since she's there, and from what I gather, even after you've started the romance she kisses you on Illium.
In the end though, Shepard is a grown woman who makes her own decisions.

Funnily enough, these are the two characters in which I see the greatest potential for a long term relationship, and maybe Liara as well. Miranda seemed like a pop and drop fling to me. Jack could go either way (no really, hidden audio files people), Thane has enough baggage to make me want to shoot him dead, and Jacob lolno. Tali seems to deeply care for MShep in a way the goes beyond just a fling, and Garrus goes through lava to make FShep feel comfortable. I dunno, just some thoughts I had, but it's currently 4am and I am slightly delusional right now.

Not exactly a first reaction to MainShep, but...
Garrus: What?! That's why you don't want us to kill Saren? You like him? *facepalm* Oh spirits, I joined up with a fangirl.
Random thought. If I had the PC version of ME2 and knew how to mod, that picture frame in her room would have a Saren screenshot. Only it was there when she showed up. TIM knows all, MainShep.

IWith Liara though, I definitely consider it cheating, but Garrus did give Shepard a chance to break up with him when he asked if she wanted something "closer to home." After she says again that she wants him, why would he complain and bring up what he thinks is in the past?
I agree on Liara--she doesn't join because she's trying to take down the person who almost handed Shep to the Collectors. Ash and Kaidan don't join because they don't trust Shep enough to put the Cerberus association aside. Even if you don't like Liara, you have to admit that the girl goes through hell and back to save Shep's Collector-fried ass.

LOL. Poor Garrus, realizing your MainShep liked Saren. Also, that would be exceedingly creepytastic if TIM knew about Saren and your Shep. TIM, you dirty old bugger!
And yeah, Jamie has been an utter blast to play--never thought I'd have so much fun with ManShep. I pretty much pick all the snarky, mouthy, and vaguely racist options I wanted to say, but never could. Jamie's getting (slow) character development, but this early into ME1, he's a handsome, arrogant, sarcastic, womanizing bastard who plays stupid to avoid having to work for his fame

Exactly. The only squadmate I dislike more than Liara is Morinth, and I still think it's a jerk move for Shepard to cheat on her after she stayed loyal. Doesn't mean my EvilShep won't do it... but he's evil. She gets a MaleShep who loves her too (although, that playthrough will have to wait a long time after her romance trap happened).Sable Rhapsody wrote...

MainShep: I noticed the Saren picture in my room. Thanks, TIM.
TIM: We want you to feel at home here, Shepard.
MainShep: Just curious, how did you know?
TIM: ...That group of reporters you attacked two years ago when they insulted him?
MainShep: ...Oh. Yeah, that. *awkward silence* If you bring him back, I'll let you build a Reaper out of batarians.
TIM: Done.
Does he use the that dialogue with the turian councillor about genocide, the "depends on the species, turian" line? I haven't planned out a Shepard racist enough to say that yet.And yeah, Jamie has been an utter blast to play--never thought I'd have so much fun with ManShep.
