Garrus is a truly epic bro.  Only 2 of my 9 FemSheps have romanced Garrus, but ALL of them consider him their best friend, despite all my Sheps having vastly different personalities.  Is there something about Garrus that makes him the kind of guy who can be friends with anyone?  Or am I just biased because I as the gamer absolutely love the guy?

I think in general, Garrus is just a hard character to dislike.  Obviously I'm biased but at least among folks who take the time to fill out surveys, polls, etc. here on the forums, Garrus is pretty much universally liked.  He has personality so people don't end up meh about him like toward Jacob, but he doesn't have any particularly polarizing or objectionable traits.  Add the fact that he's a very useful squaddie for just about any class on all difficulties, and it's no surprise why everyone likes him, and every Shep gets along just fine with him.

I'd say characters like Miranda, Thane, Jack, Ash, etc. are more likely to vary in their relationships from Shep to Shep.  For lack of a better way of putting it, they have more extreme personalities and opinions that are likely to ****** off a particular Shep.

Right, I just redid LotSB. This time I brought Tali and Garrus with me. Tali commented on the bombing, but afterwards it was Garrus portrait that was to the left, so I seriously don't think they had any dialogues for Garrus in this DLC.

Aw, that makes me sad :(. Oh well.

Nuala wrote...

I thought the LoTSB squad lines were all taken from what was in the game already. Jack says, "What the hell?" - The line when the bomb goes off in recruiting Garrus
Tali says, "Ke-lah," - The line on her loyalty mission where she finds out about the Geth
Grunt says, "Now it gets fun!" - A line he just says in general when combat is initialized.
Samara says, "By the Goddess," - Half a line from "By the Goddess, what happend here?" which she says on side missions sometimes.
I don't know if Garrus has any recorded lines like that, so they probably just went with everyone else's.

I maybe wrong, that is just from what I remember Posted Image

Yeah, I heard this too. So that might be why.

Also, I wanted to ask if anyone knows if Brandon Keener really likes playing Garrus? Because him denying to do the interview with Retroplayer made me a little nervous.

Oh my... how I will ressist Me3 spoilers about Garrus! That wil be hard! I remember when some people got Me2 earlier and then we "black traded" spoilers in private messages xD all fans of Garrus were spoiled before they touched Me2 I am sure in that :P (well most of them) It was funny when I saw these vids conversations about romance and I thought ok that is it I won't spoil myself anymore... I stopped and then I bought game when it came ...went to play and was like huh there is nothing more? That was it? I actually spoiled whole Garrus romance? What Garrus? You need to calibrate? But I want moooreee!! etc etc :D well I got a little bit dissapointed... I must admit.

So will you stay away from spoilers? xD If they won't give enough Garrus and you got spoiled somehow would that prevent you from romancing him when you get Me3? I mean Garrus is really great but if his romance sopouse to be meh in Me3 in way and won't get equally atention like some romances and things happens like: He leaves Shep, he is not squadmate, no enough romance, no enough conversation, he dies, he betrays, he admits that he has a kid and turian woman who he should marry xD, he bothers you with more daddy, mommy family issues, he cheats you(!)( wow imagine that xD)he can't see future in romance he leaves you beacuse he thinks it is better for you to be with your race and him to be with his etc etc. How would you react? I know many of this things he would not do it but Bioware is Bioware..but this is hypoteticaly question xD?

(what would  turn you off from continuing Garrus romance?)

ah that rumor... you got me worried a little bit hehe. I thought something else!

dddd how many things I wrote...waallll of text..sorry

edit: oh btw would you like that Shep and Gar have little fight? but you know fights like couples have in relationships xD first love fight that would be great!

I want to read as little spoilers as possible but I want to find out before I play if Garrus is going to be a squadmate or not and some other details but I don't want to learn too much. I might start to visit the forums less after the last bridging DLC for fear of reading a major spoiler. Most of ME1 and all of ME2 was spoiled for me so I plan to know as little as possible for ME3.

A lot of things could turn me off from the Garrus romance like if it doesn't continue or if it doesn't go along like I hoped but I plan to stay faithful to him throughout the game even if he only has a cameo and it's unsure if I can even continue the romance. I hope that doesn't happen but I'm not going to cheat on him. I believe that Bioware will try to treat all the romances equally and I know that they know how everyone thought of Horizon so I doubt they might do something like make the romance not continue or make him cheat or something that all fans will dislike for the romance. At least I hope not. But I am worried about the amount of dialogue they will give him since he is the squadmate with the least amount of dialogue in both games. But I think that they will give the characters more dialogue since everyone hated the "calibrations" in ME2.

There has been so much backlash about the little amount of dialogue Garrus had, and so much mockery of his endless calibrations (hell, even Liara makes fun of it: 'I hear Garrus isn't just calibrating the Normandy's engines anymore!' :o) that I am pretty sure Bioware has learned it's lesson and will give more lines to Garrus. Samara had lots to say, as did Thane, Kack and Miranda comparatively. But Garrus just couldn't stop calibrating.

I said on the Thane thread, but I think I'm gonna print a T-shirt that says 'Can it wait a bit? I'm in the middle of some calibrations.' - Perfect for every situation, do you think it will be allowed?

Oh man, if Bioware sold an official "calibrations" shirt, I can guarantee that it would've been out of stock e'rry damn day.

So...question: How will we as Garrus fans approach Garrus-related spoilers during the infodrip as "Winter 2011" approaches?

As things are revealed or leaked, should we talk about it or keep it out of this thread?

I hope you're right. I remember being so happy when I recruited him only to be disappointed by constant calibrations.

I think it'll be fine. I know I've been wanting to get some kind of ME T-Shirt made.

I know I want to read as little spoilers as possible but if I remember correctly Chimervera and lovgreno requested that the spoilers go in a certain thread in Clan V instead of here.

You remember correctly! The original post I made is here, and there's also a reminder at the top of the OP.

In short: please don't mention anything other than that spoilers exist in this thread. For anything more specific, it can be shared/discussed in the groups or via PM. Things that are on the official site or in trailers don't count as spoilers.

I would love it if BioWare made a "calibrations" shirt. It'd be a lot better than their earlier design for a Garrus shirt. I'd also love a shirt with the Archangel symbol on it. What other Garrus-related shirt designs can you think of?

Perhaps I'm being exceedingly optimistic, but I think BioWare will do a better job of the dialogue in ME3.  Christina Norman's presentation on changes between ME1 and ME2 mentioned increased roleplaying depth as one of the things they wanted to improve on for ME3.  And think about it this way--the development cycle is about 2 years for ME3, same time frame as ME2.  But this time, they don't need to redesign the combat and engine from the ground-up again, which makes me think that time is being devoted to pulling out all the stops for ME3--plot, squaddies, NPCs, the whole shebang.

And if not, there's always fanfiction.  In my mind, Garrus and my MainShep just spend a lot of their down time hanging out with each other, even before they get together.

I hope so and yeah I'm trying to be optimistic too. Ok, I don't know anything about game development(so this might not make sense)but I remember when Bioware said that they were using the ME2 engine for ME3 but then I read that they are using a different engine for ME3 that will be the ME2 PS3 engine. This makes me confused because I thought they weren't going to change it. So do you think it took a whole lot of resources to upgrade the engine? I imagine that they are probably getting a bigger budget for ME3 too. I'm probably missing something really obvious here but like I said, I don't know anything about game development.

Yeah fan fiction is great and it makes me happy but I would be much happier if they can really pull off the romance being really great in ME3 and have a really good ending too it. I like fanfiction but I hope I wouldn't have to relie on it just to get a decent ending to the Garrus romance.

Concerning spoilers: I always read them. I am a person who reads the last page of a book in the beginning just to see if the main character is still alive. I don't like surprises (they could be bad) and I prefer to know what is going to happen. If it is something nice I will look forward to see and play it myself and if it is something bad I can just prepare myself to it or try to find out if it can be avoided or in a really worse case (really bad ending, Shep and LI dies...) don't play the game at all....

I do think that Brandon Keener likes to voice Garrus - maybe he refused the interview for some good reasons (no time or maybe he isn't allowed to say something about Garrus...). I think Brandon has a page on facebook (or something similar, there was a link somehwere) where he answers questions of his fans and makes announcements.

I think the expectations on ME3 couldn't be higher - there are so many things that would be nice to see or to experience that I am worrying if one single game will be enough to do so. More dialogue is wished by all fans so I hope this is likely to happen. I just hope there will be no ending like decide: sacrifice yourself or your LI.... this would be really awful...

I suppose at the (happy) ending, Shepard and the LI (and hopefully others too) are alive and they celebrate and/or with a concerned look at a destroyed city or planet they will speak about that now everything goes on again and they will start to rebuilt what has been destroyed. With the knowledge that Shep and the LI is alive everyone can then think about what they will do afterwards.

I’ve been following this thread and the Thane one for awhile now and I’ve decided to share my opinion.

This is the final chapter for Mass Effect, well at least for Shepard, and it’s highly anticipated, I doubt Bioware will make it anything less then extraordinary. After all if they don’t a lot of people will be lighting torches and sharpening pitchforks. So they are under a tiny bit of pressure. Look at all the improvements they made in ME2 because of all the complaints people had. Now they have new complaints, lack of dialogue being one, that I’m sure they will be improved in ME3.

That being said, Garrus has been a squadie in both games, and after popular demand, a romance option. I don’t think they will toss him out or gyp him in the final game. And if by some cruel twist of the forces of the universe they do, get a sharpening them pitchforks, because hell hath no fury like a gamer girl scorned.

Garrus for MaleShep is almost the only friend who left after his "dead"... for my earthborn Shep he's like the brother he never had... a hudge, scaly bad**s bro, but still... He and Tali are the only two squadmates left that stands with Shepard since the beginning, even for mere narrative continuity they should remain. I mean... wich trilogy in games, movies or books about a group of heroes doesn't have at least 2-3 chars that remain for its whole lenght?

I think he does.  He posts stuff about Garrus and the ME universe on his Facebook page all the time.  His most recent 2 wall posts are about ME3... actually the majority of his posts seem to be about ME.

For one thing, I think he just loves ME, so I'm sure he's happy to be part of the ME universe in such a big way, since everybody loves Garrus.

I think I mentioned she isn't very patient?

Now that's just creepy. My renegade femshep is also named Sylvia and she looks just like that, well at least in ME1 she did.

Maybe the absence of him and Liz (the Tali's VA) simply means that they're already back to work for ME3 and they're busy... gosh, I hope it's really so!

Or maybe they avoid interviews to don't risk to get involved with too hardcore fans...

Great minds...?

I was trying to see how they compared size-wise, actually, but it ended up looking like they were both feeling very awkward standing side-by-side like that, and maybe trying to avoid being caught talking together.  So I had to caption it.

Some time ago I remember it being discussed that people thought Garrus was taller in ME2 than ME1.  In my screenshot, he didn't look any bigger or smaller to me than in ME2 to me.  He does look a lot bulkier than I remembered him being in ME1, though (and yes, this is ME1 I'm replaying).  He's about two Shepards across, actually.  And I should have gotten a profile shot, because while turians look pretty human from the front or even at an angle, they look pretty alien from a full-body profile view.  That back plate/collar/whatever you want to call it gives the whole back a very odd shape.  The scientific curiosity in me wonders how their internal organs must be arranged within that structure and how--or if--it affects the curvature of the spine beneath it as compared to a human being.

If someone could grab a shot of him next to MShep, I'd be interested to see to compare how tall he is compared to the male Shepard model.

Sylv's appearance is stolen from my Alexis Shepard who I can't replay because I can't get BDtS to install on the new computer.  But I don't think she's an exact match in appearance anyway, and her personality's different.

Edited to add:  My Sylvia is an Earthbound/War Hero paragade, not a renegade, though.  Not sure how she'll be in ME2, but somehow it doesn't strike me that death will change her much.

Thanks! :D I didn't know about the interview. It's awesome! Really great description of Saren's character too.

I skipped ahead to the Saren parts, just like I did with Revelation. So, did Saren's VA read Revelation... or did BioWare just tell him about Saren's brother? And did they tell him more than they told us? xD

@Brass Buckles: I thought he looked thinner in the first game, but I reckon that was just because of the armour. He seems to be wearing heavier armour in ME2

I skipped ahead to the Saren parts as well xD I really liked him as a character and it was interesting to read what the VA had to say about him.
