And it's nice that Pallin has some good things to say about Garrus. That comment about an officer breaking the rules is amusing, especially now that we know there are quite a few people in C-Sec who break rules for the wrong reasons when Garrus does it for the right reasons.

Pallin's attitude (and if you play a very Paragon Shep, Shep's attitude) toward Garrus seems to be that he's a good guy who has his heart in the right place, and sometimes does the wrong thing for the right reasons.  I do like that Garrus's Cowboy Cop tendencies actually get him in trouble while he's on the force--too often characters like that in fiction get away with it without any particular explanation.

Ah, the Cain.  Favorite gun of mine.  And if you play a squishy Adept on Insanity, absolutely essential for that bit where you get attacked by hordes of husks, droves of abominations, and three Scions :pinched:  I still remember the first time I shot that damn nuke launcher.

Cain: *BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM*
Everything but Shep: *dies*
Boyfriend and I: ...:o
Me: ...it's beautiful

I guess most of the TV shows and movies I've seen were somewhat realistic about that then. The Cowboy Cops always get in trouble and nearly fired, poor guys. xD Lucky Saren, being able to break the rules is in his job description. Garrus would love being a Spectre.

That's probably going to be MaleShep's reaction to the Cain. It's perfect for him. I bet it would make Garrus a little nervous though, in a "this guy was destructive enough two years ago" kind of way.

I've had a lot of fun playing Mass Effect 1 today and taking screens.

Had a problem getting armour for Garrus. He was still in his C-Sec armour while we were doing the second mission and then I manage to loot some for him. Turns out it's the angry kitten armour lol

Wrex really does crack me up sometimes.

If only my Shepard could ask him to "blow off some steam" in the Mako *sigh*

*snerk* Angry kitty armor for the win.

Poor Garrus and his lo-res face. It's so tragic.

Finding armor that looked good and still had good stats was hard in ME1. At least my next playthrough is a NG+ where Shepard already has the Silverback armor for Garrus. Unless it'll disappear if he's wearing it at the end of the game. o_o Will that happen? Do I have to make sure it's still in Shepard's inventory to use it in the NG+? That screenshot of Garrus in the "angry kitty" armor is hilarious though. His leg's going through the wall. xD

Garrus was so adorable when he asked if there was anything he could do to help. I wanted to suggest a hug for my FemShep.

A hug?  Psht.  I had...other ideas in mind when Garrus said that to my MainShep   In fact, that was pretty much when I decided I wanted to romance him.  And was very sad when I couldn't.

D'AWWWWW

Garr-bear WOULD like cowboy cop action movies :P  Something tells me he'd like 24, James Bond, Bourne, etc.  Maybe not such a fan of police procedurals, might remind him of his time in C-Sec.  But anything with witty one-liners, explosions, and badassery is bound to get Garrus's attention.  Comic book movies might really be up his alley.

Now I'm picturing Garrus watching The Dark Knight and finally understanding why my MainShep teases him about being Turian Batman whenever he gets a little too vigilante for her tastes

I'm not so sure he'd like old movies. Somehow, with all his calibrations, he seems more the Galaxy of Fantasy player type to me. Otherwise, I think he'd rather be causing the explosions than watching someone else cause them. But that's just my take.

Well, I can't very well predict what future movies Garrus might like :D  Though something tells me Elcor Hamlet is NOT among them.  And it's Legion who's the Normandy's resident gamer.  Maybe my ManShep can get party with Legion in Galaxy of Fantasy--ManShep loves video games.  They can school n00bs together.

Well, my FemShep wouldn't have suggested anything else then because it might make for an awkward "when I said anything, I didn't mean anything" situation between them. xD When Garrus was the one who brought up sparring, she suggested it in the most obvious way she could think of.

I was disappointed that he wasn't a romance option too (especially with there only being one male option for FemShep), but it's nice that his romance was built up over two games, and that he won't romance a Shepard who didn't recruit him in ME1. That's looking back on it after I know how everything turned out though. At the time I was just thinking, "Why not? I don't like my other choices."

He won't? That's actually good. I love the romance and the transition from friendship into something more. So many in game romances always just have them as lovers straight away.

It's a nice touch that Shepards who didn't recruit him can't romance him.

A default game assumes Garrus was recruited in ME1, so romance is possible there. But if you played through ME1 and didn't recruit Garrus, the subject of romance can never be brought up. The conversation to start his romance mentions stuff in ME1 that he wouldn't have been around for if he wasn't recruited.

Oh yeah, you're right.  He wouldn't bring up Ilos or the previous Normandy or the hunt for Saren or anything.  Wow.  That's a lot of dialogue missed if you didn't recruit him in ME1.  But how could you not recruit him?  Garrus is so cute! :3  I have to admit to metagaming this playthrough with Jamie--he might not like turians, but Garrus is a cool turian in his book just so I can recruit Garrus.  Can't not have the guy.

I didn't have any problems with my Shepards not liking Garrus - no problems with turians the way some Shepards have had bad experiences with batarians, and most of them approve of his Renegade approach to things. I would definitely metagame as much as I need to if there's ever a situation where a Shepard hates one of my favorites. My current MaleShep can hate Cerberus, kill their crew, and destroy the base all he wants, but if TIM or Kai Leng are ever in his line of fire, he'll suddenly realize that the fate of the galaxy is more important than his grudge. xD

Clan V and the Garrus thread owes Jillyfae a debt of gratitude for telling us about that so that none of us had to make that sacrifice and not recruit Garrus in ME1 and do without romancing him in ME2.

I love that you can't romance him if you didn't recruit him. It gives so much more meaning to the relationship.

Definitely. :) Another thanks to Jillyfae!

We might have never would have found out otherwise. Most people who don't recruit Garrus in ME1 wouldn't be trying to romance him in ME2, I think. Even if the player likes Garrus, a Shepard who left him behind on the Citadel probably doesn't. One of you guys who really wanted to know would have gone through a sad playthrough without Garrus for science (because that person wouldn't have been me).

Out of curiosity, can you not recruit Wrex and Tali?

Also, here's a question for you. Garrus grew up on Palaven, do you reckon his clan markings are the same for the planet, or is it region, city, village etc?

Tali has to be recruited.

Wrex & Garrus don't have to be recruited, but you must have one or the other. If you don't recruit Garrus, you must recruit Wrex and vice versa.

The markings was about the Civili War of the turian colonies if I remember well, so probably there's one mark of each planet...

If you say no to recruiting Tali, then Udina will force you to take care of her.
