Why does everyone think the Garrus/Shepard cuddles look awkward? They looked fine to me... but Garrus also didn't hide from battle in my ME1 game either, and I haven't seen him run past the more powerful enemies in ME2. More like run directly at them, or take cover next to Shepard and then stand on top of cover like he's distracting them so she can fire off a few shots. xD

Hey, I just realized something, related to the interview from Saren's VA. He said that Sovereign was the first thing Saren believed in for a long time. So I'm thinking, if Shepard persuades Saren at the end and gets through to him, that means Shepard is the last thing Saren believes in before he dies? That'll make my MainShep happy, except for the part where Saren dies.

You may be right about that.

Awesome. I like being right, even more so when it involves an adorable revelation about Saren. :)

Garrus' father would hate my FemShep. He would hate MainShep too, despite the fact that she's not the one who romances Garrus. They both encourage him to be Renegade (all of my Shepards do, actually), one idolizes Saren and the other is in love with him. That's not likely to come up in conversation, but if it did, I don't think Garrus' father would approve of the Renegade interrupt punch he would get for insulting Saren... Now I wonder how Garrus would react - shock, disapproval, or "I've always wanted to do that"?

The sheer joy that erupted when we found out, through breaking into and sniffing around the leaked game files pre-release, that Garrus wasn't just a squadmate but a romance option...it was fantastic.  That time made for one of the best "forum memories" for me...we were all in it together. ^^

This was my first forum memory. I didn't join up until later, but when I found the BioWare forums, I found the Garrus thread and saw everyone talking about youtube videos that prove he's a romance option in ME2. So I didn't have to go through any of the crazy speculation, or even the wait (I bought ME1 a few months before ME2's release) that I'll be around for with ME3. One thing will be the same though - I read all of the spoilers I could find for ME2, and I'll do the same for ME3. And DA2. At least I'll have a lot of BioWare games to play before ME3 comes out. It'll make the wait go by faster.

Was he a romance option? I know, my first question should probably be, "Where did Kai learn time travel?" But it's not. xD

Sialater wrote...

I have a question I'm stuck on for fic purposes.... Why doesn't Garrus like Miranda (or think she's a capable leader)? Why does he speak up if Jack is dead? He has said he has no problem with Cerberus itself, so... why does he seem to dislike Miranda?

I don't think it's a matter of not believing she's a capable leader. His reasons are that half of the squadmates don't even trust her. It's not a team of Cerberus agents or soldiers who will follow commands despite their opinion of the person in charge. I get the idea that Garrus was worried about what would happen if Miranda was made a team leader and those under her command didn't trust or respect her enough to follow her orders. Even if she makes good decisions, it won't help if the team doesn't listen to them. Garrus' team on Omega all seemed to trust and respect him, and the same goes for the teams Shepard leads in both games - he knows that works. Maybe he's even thinking about what happened with Sidonis as an example of how easily things can go wrong if just one person in Miranda's team does something they're not supposed to.

LOL.  It was a very weird dream.  Mainly because I couldn't tell if it was Kai Leng himself or his evil (good?) twin and my boyfriend was being unhelpful.  I don't think he was a romance option, which is a shame, because he and my Azula-esque Hawke would've gotten along beautifully.

More like Saren characterization problems.  Dates and events I can handle, but the turian bastard's a hell of a headcase to write.  Mind if I PM you what I've got so far for the kink meme fill so you can tell me if I've made egregious errors?  No NSFW or anything.

That's funny, because I had started planning out a FemShep based on Azula for the off-chance Kai would be a romance option before I realized that my assassin-loving FemShep/Warden was already so close to that and I should just use her. xD

Sure, I'll read what you have so far. :)

We're all disturbed or twisted to some extent, but that's okay.  We're family here. :P

Lol, I remember the old boards and the debates and stressing and pining and hoping and "omg, it won't happen but I hope it does" thing going on.  And yeah, there were haters there who said it would never happen.  A number of those vocal haters are still around, but not much they can say about Garrus' chances now (though some try). :P

It seemed as if Garrus was off the table as soon as it was revealed that Thane was an option (and was purposefully designed to be) and Jacob was a shoe-in.  Many of us figured Samara would be the last option to coincide with the "trinity" romance selection going and thus Garrus would be out (as Thane, it was figured, would take up the "malien slot").

The sheer joy that erupted when we found out, through breaking into and sniffing around the leaked game files pre-release, that Garrus wasn't just a squadmate but a romance option...it was fantastic.  That time made for one of the best "forum memories" for me...we were all in it together. ^

That, and writing up a summary of his recruitment mission when someone got ahold of the game early and streamed it.  As I recall, I think I pointed out the end as "fanwork bait", something that seems to have held out.

Hmmm. Speaking of fanfics, I've finally gotten off my lazy ass and I've been working on updating the old Garrus fanfic thread these last couple of days. Hoping I'll have it done within the next day or two. ^^

"Done" in the sense that I'll have everything caught up from fanfiction.net. I'll have to scour the other sites at a later time and add to the list as I go. For now, ff.net is providing more than enough work for me. D;

I've started the planning stages of my post-Omega 4 relay fanfic which has a heavy emphasis on Garrus and Shepard. If my DA fanfic is anything to go by though, it will be awhile before I write anything substantial. I haven't registered over at ff.net but think I may do that in the near future. When it comes to writing I have a rather.. chaotic method of getting my ideas down on paper so it's not easy for others to follow along with until/if I finish. Hopefully I won't have that issue here but we'll see.

I certainly don't mind reading about Garrus fanfics from others, in fact, I've noticed that I am quite ok with "sharing" in the Garrus fandom whereas when it came to Dragon Age.. I could never do the same with Alistair. Not sure why that is or if that comment even makes any sense to ya'll but there it is.

I have a quick question, and I’m very sorry if it’s already been asked (I’m kinda’ a noob in the ME-verse)…but is there any particular reason why Garrus’ character profile/squad mate info got “left out” of both the ME1 and 2 websites? He never got a character trailer either (at least not that I’ve seen).

Is anyone else….worried about that?

The conspirator in me is thinking that they (devs) didn’t want to put up anything official because he’s really a double-agent of some kind (undercover Spectre) who is going to betray Shepard (kill him/her in ME3 when the council declares she/he has gone rogue) at some point (End ME3).

*cough*

And I frickin’ LOVE Garrus (LI for ME3 FTW!) so these thoughts have been quite troubling to me.

Does anyone have any idea why he’s being shafted? Really, I’d just like some official info on his age and such like the other characters got, or SOME kind of official recognition that he is playing for Shepard's team!

Heheh, I go where the fanfics are, so if your preference is to stay away from ff.net, that's fine. I pull them together from wherever they are located. ^^ ff.net is just..."easy" since it's a ton of fics in one spot.

That's also something I've found very wonderful with our particular fandom.  Garrus love is shared freely amongst the Garrus community and there really isn't a sense of jealousy  and "mine all mine!" XD For the most part...you'll always have exceptions to the rule.  I guess it's because there's always enough Garrus to go around...and we have plushies. :3  We tend to be a pretty laid back community across the board, or at least that's how I've always perceived it. ^_^

Because BW enjoys watching us writhe in anticipation and they feed off our pining?  No idea, but I really, REALLY wish BW would release a character profile for him.  Damn it! I want more info on Garrus! D8 Heh, I'm pretty sure we'll get something like that for ME3...answers to long-standing questions and solving certain mysteries...like his age, for one.

My personal belief is that he's at the very least 30 (and most likely older)...turian military and then time in C-Sec to attain the rank he did, that sort of thing.

He never got a character trailer (I would love a hi-res/texture Garrus-centric trailer...pleeeeaaaase BW? Yes, I know...I'm very needy.) per se, although his pic is shown very briefly in the original pre-release Blur trailer on TIM's screen.

The reason for the lack of all this was to keep it a secret, for as long as possible, that Garrus was in as a squadmate and was Archangel.  He and Legion were "spoilers" and their files kept "classified" on the website.  I guess they've kept it as such for similar reasons, although today such info about their status is readily available...so I assume it's them enjoying our writhing. :P

And also Garrus seems to be well liked in general, regardless if someone romanced him or not. I love that, share the love around. This thread reminds me a lot of the Varric thread, actually.

Nah.  The reason why Garrus didn't get promo videos in ME1 was because he was on all of the promo images, and the original demo back in E3 2006 was of him.  He did get a lot of promo exposure, just not all of it is on the official site.

For ME2, it's because Garrus being Archangel is the worst kept secret in the history of forever.  It was supposed to be a surprise, which is why they never officially confirmed Garrus in the game, but everyone knew it was him.

I look at it this way - every game has its own Garrus. So I'm not bothered by the fact that all of these other Shepards that are not my FemShep are with Garrus, or that I just read a fanfic where Saren will be paired with a Shepard who is not my MainShep. But I don't like the idea of squadmates having romantic relationships with each other because, even if it's in a playthrough where they're not being romanced, it would still feel like they're cheating on one of my Shepards. If it happens in my game, then it messes with my version of canon. If it happens in someone else's game or a fanfic, then whatever, it's a different universe.

I'm trying to fit it in with what we know of turian society.  They generally serve active duty until 30 then go into the reserves, and he needed time in C-Sec afterward to earn the rank he did.  I'd peg him early to mid-30s, but wouldn't be surprised to see him in the upper 30s.  I think the former is more likely than the latter.

Yeah, that's how I tend to see it too.  But not just for Shep, for all LIs, including the DA:O folks.  Then again, I also never got as invested in Alistair as I did in Garrus.
