Do we know which BioWare writer mostly wrote Garrus' stuff?

If there was any poetic justice in this world, it would be Mac Walters.

But I actually don't know. Not Brian Kindregan or Chris L'Etoile. Or Luke Kristjanson. I might figure this out through process of elimination.

I don't know of any actual shower comic for Garrus, but a single line on Google voided my 90-minute search to "wasted time."

I had always had the understanding that Mac Walters was one of the main writers for Garrus (and a couple others).  I don't have anything to substantiate this, unfortunately, but I'm fairly certain that's what I recall being said.

Still searching for evidence. D;

EDIT: Hmmm...Patrick Weekes?

Here's the shower scene I was talking about. :3

HOOOOOLY------

I FOUND IT. I ACTUALLY FOUND IT.

RE: Regarding Garrus' age according to a BW employee:

Okay, this is attributed to Patrick Weekes with a LiveJournal posting under "Pats_Quinade"

On 9/11/2009 he stated:
"I don't think there IS a canonical answer, but the intent was always that he was a relatively inexperienced C-Sec officer who had enough experience under his belt to be frustrated with the system. I'd definitely say under 30, provided that works in terms of turian training."

Link to the full conversation with his reply at the bottom.

Someone link this on the OP, quick! XD It took me a while to find it. :P

So, at the time of that posting at least, there was no definitive age set in-house for BW, just a general guideline. Weekes' guess was for "under 30...provided that works in terms of turian training."

Now we need to figure what is considered "turian training." Time's passed since this post by Weekes, so the question becomes: what would they have considered "turian training?" Basic? Mandatory service? When did the canon for 15 years' mandatory service come into being?

Haha I was just reading the latest post on one of the webcomics I read. One of the authors randomly blogged about playing Mass Effect and at the end of the post there was a picture of Garrus  xD

I lol'd.

As for his age... BioWare, just tell us xD I don't really have anything more to say.

Holy hell Eradyn, nice job on finding it :)

Well we know he has done some of his mandatory service, what with the whole "reach and flexibility". I doubt he would be sent to deal with batarian pirate squads if he was an inexperienced rookie.

Lol, Yuki! Ok, where do I get one of these plushies, I need me some Garrus plushies. And looks like he'll be one of the new ME2 action figures that gets released this year (if they ever actually come out).

@Aeowyn: I wish BW would just tell us. That [classified] file sitting on the main web site isn't fooling anyone BW! We know it's Garrus!

Would be less painful than trying to parse together and break down all the various data to try and see what is possible and what isn't. D;

@leonia42

Well I hope they don't push them back too much longer.  I hate having preorders sit there...just waiting to be charged to my cc at any moment.

Yeah, if we knew more about the turian military and service we could make a more solid guess about it fitting within the terms of turian training. As it stands what we know is what the codices say and they're not truly enough for us to speak in any absolute terms.

Well, I guess we can break into BW headquarter and not leave until they give us an age.

Breaking news: BioWare HQ has been overrun by fangirls of a video game character named Garrus Vakarian. They are armed with Garrus plushies and demands have been made.
"We only want to know his age. So many discussions have been made over this subject and we are tired of guessing," a fangirl who will remain anonymous reported to our sources.
Mass Effect Project Leader Casey Hudson had this to say:
"Ah yes, Garrus Vakarian's age. We have dismissed that claim."

Unfortunately. D;

Why must Garrus be such an exception all the time? Or at least it seems that way.  Every other squadmate seems to have more info freely revealed...we have to scramble for something as basic as his age...and even then, the closest we get with BW,  we're still just left with a big question mark.

@Aeowyn: We still have the armory full of Rachni.  They're waiting next to the torches and pitchforks and they're very hungry by now.

This is to funny! I should stop drinking anything when I come on BSN...Posted ImageI could imagine it tho. Lol.

@Eradyn
Lol. Hungry Rachni with torches and pitchforks in an armory? Yay! I like the Rachni...Yeah the age is a simple basic thing, now why don't they tell their fans?

LOL.

And I agree with Eradyn: We don't know as much about Turians like we do with a lot of the other races and because of the lack of Garrus dialogue in both games there is a lot of stuff we don't know about him that could have easily been brought up. It makes me a little jealous of other characters because it seems that Garrus doesn't get as much as them. Hopefully by the end of the trilogy though(Since I doubt he will be in any other ME game) we will get much more Garrus info like his age and hopefully he will be a squadmate again.

What's worse is that BW is probably so trained and conditioned to keep secrets that they STILL wouldn't crack even under the threat of fan-administered torture.

"NO!  The secrets... they must be kept!  ARRRGGHHGHGH!!"
"Just tell us how old Garrus is!"
"NEVER!  NEVER!!"

:lol:

Does the in-game codex actually state that 15 years of military service is mandatory? Last time I checked it said something like "most serve until the age of 30". If so it could mean that they serve until that age unless they are promoted to higher position like C-Sec or Spectredom, like Saren.

That's just it, isn't it? We have a turian companion and we see lots of turians but we really don't get a good idea of what their culture and life is like. We get a good bit of information on the asari and the quarians and even the krogans but.. thinking back to both of Garrus' loyalty quests, I can't think of much turian information being revealed aside from codex entries. And he doesn't talk much about his people.. a little bit about his family and C-Sec but that's about it really.

I'm *hoping* this means we're going to Palaven in ME3 so that the spotlight can shine more on the turian race a bit. We've been too Ilium, Tuchanka, the Migrant fleet.. surely Palaven is next on the list.

Yes, the races that we see the most are asari and turians but we know very little about turians compared to other races. The only races that we know less about then turians are races that haven't been squadmates, I think(and maybe Salarians). I'm dying to hear more about Garrus and turians so hopefully we will in ME3.

I was pretty sure that we would see Palaven but then I got worried; I was thinking that since turians are a council race what if we just have to get the council on our side and we automatically gain the help of the turians, asari, and salarians? Then we wouldn't even have to go to Palaven(and miss out on possibly meeting Garrus' family). We even seen more of salarians then turians since we were at the salarian STG camp in ME1. I remember someone saying that BioWare said that they were thinking about doing Palaven for DLC or ME3 but I don't have a quote of it so I'm not sure. I will be very sad if we don't go to Palaven.

I do think it's interesting from a design perspective that the turian we get as a squaddie isn't very representative of the species as a whole.  Tali, Legion, Mordin...all much more "standard" members of their species to a certain degree.  If party members are supposed to act as narrative ciphers for the IP as a whole, Garrus is a little broken in that regard :D

I'll admit I'm largely glad Garrus isn't just a walking encyclopedia of turian culture. But c'mon bw...his age at least? Basic history? A character profile on the main website would go far in alleviating that. Big problem, I think, is that in ME1 he was the "encyclopedia" for CSec, and barely at that. Tali, Liara, and the rest had more to say than he about their respective topics.

Okay, yeah, now I'm starting to feel a little left out and jealous. ;-;
