I'll admit I'm largely glad Garrus isn't just a walking encyclopedia of turian culture. But c'mon bw...his age at least? Basic history? A character profile on the main website would go far in alleviating that. Big problem, I think, is that in ME1 he was the "encyclopedia" for CSec, and barely at that. Tali, Liara, and the rest had more to say than he about their respective topics.

Okay, yeah, now I'm starting to feel a little left out and jealous. ;-;

Now that I think about it, you're right. In ME1 Wrex, Tali and Liara had subjects you could ask about constantly. With Wrex you could ask about the genophage, about his mercenary work, his family etc. Those conversations were always there and could be repeated 20 times. With Liara it was about the asari and Benezia. Tali was a walking encyclopedia about the quarians, geth, pilgrimage. And then we had Garrus. Who "only" had his in game lines and when that was over it was "Commander, good to see you."

Hmpf. I would like to know more about him and his family tbh. And more about the turian culture in general.

He and Kaidan Alenko are the squaddies you have the least data on.

I do think it's interesting from a design perspective that the turian we get as a squaddie isn't very representative of the species as a whole.  Tali, Legion, Mordin...all much more "standard" members of their species to a certain degree.  If party members are supposed to act as narrative ciphers for the IP as a whole, Garrus is a little broken in that regard Posted Image

Yeah, but I'm happy that he isn't like Tali in ME1. I thought she talked too much about the quarians. Still I can't help but be jealous of the other characters. Hopefully this will be improved on in ME3.

And a lot of people complained about the "calibrations", right? So hopefully BioWare will be much better this time with dialogue.

But still even though Garrus has the least amount of dialogue in both games, he remains to be pretty much the most popular character. He is just that amazing Posted Image.

Yes, I noticed this too. I'm happy that we at least got an "Investigate" dialogue option this time. But still even that option isn't very long especially when you compare it to Thane's.

I'm hoping that the ME3 squadmates(and hopefully Garrus) will get as much dialogue as Mordin in ME2(hopefully even more). Mordin had a lot of conversations and each one of them had an "Investigate" option. He also had rotating "can't talk right now" dialogue, so I'm hoping that we at least get as much dialogue with Garrus in ME3 that we got with Mordin in ME2.

But you have to admit, calibrating was never quite as sexy before Garrus started doing it.

We didn't get any jokes about fixing the mako, though... so, I'm not holding my breath.

Didn't Liara already make the snide comment about calibrations? Though it's directed at Shepard and only in a specific occasion.

Yeah, I think so. But I think the desire is to tease Garrus about it.

Doodling some turians! Will post momentarily.

I have also taken it upon myself to make something amusing, a twitter account belonging to a turian who lives on the Citadel. Is this awesome, y/n?

Now I'm picturing a small child dangling off of this poor turian's mandibles and giggling with glee :lol:  If only I had artistic talent, but I'm all writing and music.

HOOOOOLY------

I FOUND IT. I ACTUALLY FOUND IT.

RE: Regarding Garrus' age according to a BW employee:

Okay, this is attributed to Patrick Weekes with a LiveJournal posting under "Pats_Quinade"

On 9/11/2009 he stated:
"I don't think there IS a canonical answer, but the intent was always that he was a relatively inexperienced C-Sec officer who had enough experience under his belt to be frustrated with the system. I'd definitely say under 30, provided that works in terms of turian training."

Link to the full conversation with his reply at the bottom.

That's the quote I was thinking of. So maybe Patrick Weekes is Garrus' writer? He's also the one who called Garrus a "compassionate Renegade."

Does the in-game codex actually state that 15 years of military service is mandatory? Last time I checked it said something like "most serve until the age of 30". If so it could mean that they serve until that age unless they are promoted to higher position like C-Sec or Spectredom, like Saren.

Yeah, that's what I think too.

I'm kind of curious if Garrus was in C-Sec or the turian military when he was chosen for Spectre training. I assume he was in his early 20's at the time - Saren was the youngest turian Spectre at 20, so I don't think they would recruit anyone younger than him. It would be interesting if Garrus was still in the military at the time, and his father got him transfered into C-Sec after he blocked the Spectre training. By that point, they should know Garrus has the skill to work there. And it would give him a few years (maybe five) at C-Sec, long enough to have been through all of those investigations he tells Shepard about and possibly enough for them to give him the Saren case. I still guess 27 in ME1 and 29 in ME2.

Garrus' exact age doesn't matter as much to me as Saren's did when I was trying to figure out his timeline though. I wanted to know if he was old enough to be in the First Contact War (after a lot of math fail, plus help from the Garrus thread, I know that he was) and how old he was as the youngest turian Spectre. For everything Garrus did, approximate ages are good enough for me. The only complaint I have about "not enough Garrus information" is that most of it is given in a DLC I don't have.

@Kim

From the way he said it "Yeah, me and about 1000 other military recruits" I assume he was still in the military when he was targeted as a potential for Spectre training.

Hmm... I guess we should be thankful that Garrus hasn't been a walking turian encyclopedia.  I mean NOW we love him and want to know everything about his culture and his people, but maybe Garrus would never have become as lovable as he is today if all he said in ME1 was "Do you want to hear about Palven's government?  It's  a fascinating topic, I promise."

That's the prime reason why I NEVER talk to poor Tali in ME1.

I think you're giving Garrus' father too much credit. In ME1 Garrus says he became an officer to fight injustice and because his father's work inspired him growing up. He also says that his father "talked him out" of Spectre training. He may be a big influence to Garrus but those were still pretty much his own decisions.

Yeah, I guess I worded that wrong. What I meant was, Garrus' father was the reason why Garrus didn't go for Spectre training and transfered to C-Sec instead.

Technically, omni-gel and the Mako repairs were mentioned once each in LotSB. But the Mako only seems to be referenced if you survive a proximity mine during the car chase. (It surprised me, because I was watching my friend get killed by the mines just an hour before.) I can't remember the quote, I heard it once during an explosion...

I suppose an alternate interpretation for all of Garrus's calibrating is that he feels awkward and doesn't know what to say to Shep, so he buries himself in calibrations. That's kinda fail, but adorable.
