Does anyone know what the deal with Saren's face is? His eyes are different and he has those weird side-horns.

He's pretty much a cyborg even before the Reaper implants.

The eyes are cybernetics. The "horns" are just a different type of fringe than normal turians. He also has cybernetic implants in his jaw that were there before Sovereign, just like the eyes. The "horns" are natural, but I think he has implants in them as well.

We don't know why he looks different, other than the fact that BioWare wanted him to look cool and different. All of the implants could be from a battle injury - it looks like the implants on his jaw keep the mandibles attached to his face. But that's just a guess.

I just saw the covers for the last Evolution comic, and one of them has Saren with a really cool thinking thing that seems to shoot lightning. (link) Does anyone know what this might be, or will I have to wait three months to find out?

Wow, you're right. I guess the artists messed up drawing Saren without the cybernetic eyes if they couldn't just look at screenshots as a reference? They have messed up on turian teeth too though, giving them front teeth.

Hm.. well, this is during the First Contact War right so it would have been Saren's earlier days. Maybe he didn't have the cybernetics then? The eyes certainly look more human but that's not unusual with comics, art-style is usually a little different with comics than "normal", probably just their way of making the character seem "human-like" to the audience (since at this point Saren wouldn't be a villain yet so they wouldn't want to make him look dark and scary).

I can't wait to read them though, I always like seeing how artists draw the turians.

Yeah, Saren would be 18.

That might be the reason, trying to "humanize" Saren. (He would hate that comparison. xD) I think they do some things just to make it familiar for the audience. On one of the covers, Saren has all of his Reaper implants and looks like he's at the Battle of the Citadel - I assume this is just to let people know for sure "this is Saren" because younger Saren will look different.

I can't wait either. Just one more week.

I'm hoping for more interesting tid-bits on turian society and culture. I wonder if the story is told more from the humans' point-of-view or the turians'?



Also hoping we see some female turians since they serve in the military as well.

I think the story will mostly follow TIM, but turians are in it from the very beginning. In the five page preview, he captures one that looks a lot like Saren.

I didn't even think about female turians. It would be interesting to see how they would draw them, even if it's not completely "canon" like Saren having human eyes.

More seriously, I'm interested in seeing more on him because for me, he's a character I could find sympathetic, that I even WANT to find sympathetic, but don't. Largely because by the first time we see him in Revelation, he's already a pretty bad dude. I'd like to see him before all the s*** really hit the fan.

Is having a brother who got killed sympathetic enough? Because there's a good chance it'll happen in the comic. Assuming the turian TIM captured is Saren, I don't think it's happened yet. He doesn't act like it. He's very confident and insults the humans in a sarcastic (as opposed to hateful) way. Although, that might not even be Saren. It could be his brother. But the way he's all "rawr, in your face" when he attacks is so much like Saren. And there's another turian with the same fringe type but a different appearance who could be his brother. I'd like to think I would know which one Saren is...

It's totally obvious that I want to read the whole series right now, isn't it?

Works for me.  I know it happened, but Saren was such a nasty dude in Revelation that I had a hard time connecting that with any conception of him as a teenager during First Contact.  So hopefully we'll see a more sympathetic side to him.

I was already sympathetic to him, but I imagine his past will become even more sad in Evolution. Before this comic, I had no idea if Saren was in the war. He could have just heard about his brother's death, know exactly how it happened or if he didn't know and imagined what might have happened. Now he has the potential to actually be there when his brother is killed. Poor guy might have seen it happen. And we don't know how he dealt with it at the time. My guess would be a fit of rage, followed by keeping the anger inside and holding a grudge like we see in Revelation.
