I think ME2 made up for the lack of on-board dialogues by having character specific loyalty AND recruitment missions,...or at least that might have been the thought process for the devs. Garrus' LM in particular was worth 10 on-board convos - the car scene ("This isn't you , either") & Harkin's beatdown are the highlights of the game for me. Jacob & Thane get more convos because they're new characters, and even if that's a little bull****ty I can at least understand it.

But yessss, I think everyone is in agreeance that ME3 needs more romance & more conversations.

On a female turian LI: I'm totally for the idea, but at this stage in the series I think additional love interests are unlikely to happen (Alas, because I would totally hop on a male quarian if given the opportunity!). With the complete mess of possibilities that BW has to deal with going into ME3 I really don't think they'd want to shovel on MORE.

Hold the phone, I just realized something. Maybe.

I keep seeing fan-made stuff where Garrus (or another turian) uses "Spirits" as an expression--"Oh, spirits," "Spirits, Shepard," etc.

Does any turian EVER do that in the game? Or did we just make that up?

I believe it's made up.
I dunno if it's been referred to in the BW issued CDN, but yea... I've seen the whole "spirits" thing said a lot.

But I def have never heard Garrus say it.

Wtf? I can't see Garrus saying "oh spirits." The thought of it actually makes me laugh.

The ME wiki states that they believe in spirits -

It's not quite spirits in an ethereal sense, though. It's like having team spirit. The people who are and have been have added to the spirit of the place, the ship, the team.

Apparently, Turians have taken to Zen Buddhism as well. That's just a little too Zen to imagine. Confucianism I can understand, though.

Yeah, and I get that, but I've never heard a turian in the game even mention it, so I was wondering where everyone was drawing their tendency to put that in fic/fanart from.

Oh yea, sure, they believe in spirits, but it's never been actually done in game where someone has said "Oh spirits!" like someone saying "Jesus H" or anything like that.

He's never used the expression. No turian has (EDIT: Except for two posts down...). I think some of the fanfic authors out there started using it as an equivalent expression to "My God!" or "Oh God!"

I'm pretty sure it got started because the turian codex states that the common religious system is more centered around a communal "spirit" or "spirit of the whole" mentality, but was misinterpreted. From the wiki:

Turians believe that groups and areas have 'spirits' that transcend the individual. For example, a military unit would be considered to have a literal spirit that embodies the honor and courage it has displayed. A city's spirit reflects the accomplishments and industry of its residents. An ancient tree's spirit reflects the beauty and tranquility of the area it grows within.

These spirits are neither good nor evil, nor are they appealed to for intercession. Turians do not believe spirits can affect the world, but spirits can inspire the living. Prayers and rituals allow an individual to converse with a spirit for guidance or inspiration. For example, a turian who finds his loyalty tested may appeal to the spirit of his unit, hoping to reconnect with the pride and honor of the group. A turian who wishes to create a work of art may attempt to connect with the spirit of a beautiful location.

Turians enjoy absolute freedom of religion and can practice whatever appeals to them so long as it does not impede anyone's ability to perform their duties. There are many practitioners of the asari 'siarist' philosophy. Since opening dialog with the human Systems Alliance, some turians have embraced Confucianism and Zen Buddhism.

EDIT: Damn forum formatting...

Okay, so I'm not losing my mind (at least where this is concerned). That's a relief.

Yea, I don't hear that line often either...

So I wonder if he's the only one....

This guy isn't gender biased, is he? I swear I've never had the option to get a discount at his store...

Also, I guess I sorta stand corrected on the spirits bit, but then again, he's the only one that I've heard in-game to use it as an expression.

Probably. Turians don't seem to use those lines nearly as much as we do (or maybe just me). But then their beleif system is a lot more complicated.

I wonder if that's why Garrus didn't get so broken up about Shep dying. Like, Shep's spirit lived on, or something, or maybe I'm not understanding it as well as I thought.

Etarn is not gender biased.  He's human biased. XD

If you saved the council, he'll chat you up, Paragon or Renegade, you'll get a discount.
If you killed the council in ME1, he hates you.  He's very short with you, and I don't know if you can Paragon a discount out of him, but you can sure Renegade one. XD

Nah he said it to my FemShep. And yeah I do believe he's the only one.

You can use charm or intimidate to get a discout at Etarn's shop council or not.

You can Paragon a discount out of him, but it's the most reluctant discount in the history of the universe. The Renegade discount is a lot better. So's the Renegade discount for Saronis Applications.

But any discount that allowed me to escape whoring myself out in the name of savings was a good deal.

Yea, I really hate the paragon discounts. The renegade ones give you so much more flavor. XD It's not like you go around beating up all the shop keepers. Some of the dialogue is a riot. "This shop discriminates against the poor!"

I don't know, as stupid as the council is now...i really think it is a horrible mistake to kill them off in ME1.

How are the Renegade discounts?

About the council... I wouldn't kill them in ANY scenario. It looks like the future is less brighter if mankind is going to rule in supremacy.

Also... What about spitting the "Reapers" line in the Turian councilor's face? I'd save the council hundreds of times only to do that.

Garrus is the best.

Etarn's store is definitely MainShep's favorite. I'm not sure which one would be MaleShep's favorite... Etarn won't be too happy with him for letting the Council die, but the weapons store would be the one he buys the most stuff from. Maybe the one selling model ships will be his favorite then - he really likes that kind of stuff. I don't even remember all of the stores.

I hope Shepard gets the chance to use that "Ah yes, 'Reapers'" line in ME3. Even some of the Shepards who would save the Council again anyway might still want to throw that line back at him. The MaleShep I mentioned won't get to, but he had a lot of good lines with the turian councillor, like "Three? No, four!" and "Here's another saying - go to hell!" xD
