@magenator: I don't think any of Garrus' dialogues with MaleShep were awkward. It's just strange that their conversations end so soon. As for Tali's "linking suits" line with FemShep, I thought it was strange at first too, but not as much after replaying her loyalty mission and finding some extra dialogue. It's not a romantic thing, just a quarian thing. xD[/quote]

I guess awkward isn't exactly the right word, like I said it just didn't click. Also I know about the whole joining suit thing it was just a bit odd that she got all flustered and giggly and then shepard says something along the lines of, "Are you blushing!? >:D"  xD

I don't think she got flustered in a "she's attracted to Shep" way, I think it was more just that Tali felt she'd put her foot in her mouth or said something silly.  Which Shep CAN tease her a little for.

Well I suppose I just felt that way because I saw that scene on maleshep playthrough (romancing tali) before I actaully played through myself. Anyway this is a Garrus forum we're getting of topic ;p

Right, back to Garrus.  *casts around for a question that HASN'T been asked a bazillion times*

How do you think Garrus reacts to Shepard's backstory?  We talked about this for an Earthborn a while back, but what about all the other backgrounds and psychological profiles?  Do you think he'd admire a War Hero Shep?  Or after ME2's events, feel a kind of bond with a Sole Survivor Shep?

Garrus is intimidated just a little by Avery, my Colonist/War Hero. Just as well she stayed "faithful."

But, I think he and Meghan would have originally gotten off on the wrong foot, given how hotheaded they both are.

I'm actually kinda covering that in the comic that I'm doing for my Shep.  It's pretty fun to write.

Horoscope style for a renegaded Garrus.

War hero: Admiration. But I think he may find paralells between Shep and his father. It appears daddy Vakarian is quite well esteemed in turian society as a 'hero' that everyone looks up to. Three stars.

Earthborn: In ME1, he may be more and less indifferent to this background. It is in his nature to punish criminals, and while Shepard ran around with gangs to say alive, and he can sympathise with that. However, after witnessing the life on Omega where people are forced into petty crime from a young age to survive, he will respect Shepard more. ME2 Garrus: 4 stars.

Ruthless: Garrus is all for solving problems quickly. But being reknowned as the 'Butcher of Torfan' and Shepard wreaking blooshed to instil her authority is not the style of leadership that Garrus admires. He prefers to lead by example, and inspire his team rather than scare them. Two stars.

Sole survivor: Like Sable said, he will greatly admire this background, as he, himself has survived against remarkable odds after his team were massacred too. Obvious paralells here. They both understand each other's hardships, and can help each other through them. 5 stars.

Just my opinion, and I still have spacer and colonist to do. But I think those ones are obvious anyway?

Heheh, so with your ranking, Meghan gets 9 stars?

The horoscope book says that Garrus and Meghan are a match made in heaven ;)

And yeah, I did one upbringing and all three of the backgrounds. Oops!

Earthborn and Sole Survivor? That's my Shepard too. Hmm... Perhaps I'm a but biased?

Good question. I've already said a lot about Earthborns and Garrus, so I'll leave that one at "he probably didn't expect to be friends with a former criminal, but Shepard is different" and move on to the other five.

Spacer: I think this one is pretty similar to Garrus' background. They both had parents who served their species in a dangerous law-enforcement sort of job, and knowing that they were basically heroes. I'm sure Shepard saw a few news vids about his/her parents too, or at least their mother. Garrus can relate to it.

Colonist: This is the background that I think relates most to Saren - family members killed off, and an option to hate another species for it. Depending on how Shepard handles it (hate the batarians or not), it could make her seem more or less like Saren now even though they have the same tragedy in their past. With Garrus' mother sick and possibly close to death, he could be worried about going through the same thing soon.

Sole Survivor: As others have said, Garrus knows how this Shepard feels after Omega, and just how much he/she has to deal with. Maybe he wonders how Shepard deals with it sometimes.

War Hero: Definitely admiration. He already thought Shepard was awesome and wanted to learn from him/her in ME1, and this kind of track record helps.

Ruthless: I think Garrus can understand Shepard killing off the batarians, and might have done it himself depending on the situation. As for the deaths on Shepard's team, judging by his/her record, he probably can't tell if they were killed off by batarians when Shepard tried to stop it, or if Shepard knowingly sent them on a suicide mission to ensure his/her success. This is probably one of the backgrounds with the most mystery to him, aside from Earthborn. Either way, this kind of Shepard knows how to make hard choices, the kind Garrus has trouble with.

And because this list made me think about which background "Garrus Shepard" would have...

Garrus: Spacer Sole Survivor
Saren: already knew he's a Colonist Ruthless

Biased?  TASH?  Perish the thought :innocent:

My Shep's Earthborn/Sole Survivor too.  One thing I like about the combination is that it's a rough start for Shep, but it can have a huge variety of different effects on Shepard's outlook on life and emotional state.  It's kinda crapsack, but it can be as crapsack or as (relatively) functional as the player chooses to imagine it.

For example, my Shep was relatively unaffected by Akuze (apart from a thresher phobia that she finally kicks in ME2), because of the constant danger and violence of her Earthborn backstory.  Death no longer fazed her, and it took her a while to realize that the kind of violent formative years she experienced were far from the norm for most people.

Also, that is one hell of a lovely Garrus pic, Liec.

Nice picture of Garrus and FemShep. :)

My FemShep who romances Garrus is a Colonist War Hero. My current MaleShep (who will romance Tali) is an Earthborn Sole Survivor though, and he's good friends with Garrus. He normally deals with his past very well, until he had to work with Cerberus - it really brought out his paranoia, and brought it to the extremes. His past on Earth doesn't bother him at all. He had fun in the gang, actually. But Garrus knew he wasn't as bad as the Reds turned out to be in ME1, and he was there when my MaleShep betrayed them after he found out that that wanted to kill innocent turians. Akuze messed him up much more.

I certainly hope he'd admire a War Hero background. Anyone in their right mind who wasn't a Batarian would admire that background or at the very least respect it.

I honestly don't give too much thought to the backgrounds myself. Mostly I just play the game. I did choose spacer though because I get feedback from my mom. I'm still hoping for a meeting with her, preferably involving my LI of choice.

It would be crazy taking Tali or Samara (Fingers crossed) to meet her and can only imagine what she'd say to Garrus. I mean if you think about it, she may have fought in the First contact war or known people who did. What would she say to you hooking up with a Turian?

On one of my femshep playthroughs, I went "soldier," with the intent of romancing Garrus. I gave her a targeting visor and tinted her armor C-Sec blue. Nice visuals when running through the game with Garrus - looked like we were in species-variants of the same uniform, especially during loyalty missions with cutscenes.

The big visual payoff? Garrus was the one who pulled soldier femshep onto the ship during the last mission. (Never had him do that before on other playthroughs with other versions of shep - usually Tali does the honors.)

Not sure how the game managed that, since I usually keep the same fireteams and choices throughout the suicide mission. Anyone know if there's a way to guarantee that a particular character pulls your shep into the ship?

He needs to be the second one chosen. And never take Miranda. She's the default savior.

Meghan caught Garrus and was caught by him because Thane came along.

And everyone knows Thane is a jerk lol.

Reg backgrounds. My Shepard is an Earthborn/Sole Survivor as well, and I'd imagine Garrus has a great deal of respect for her for that. Not only because she went from running in gangs to joining the Marines where she excelled, but also because she managed to survive against all odds on Akuze. After Omega I'd imagine they'd have a lot in common.

Sialater: When you say, "he needs to be the second one chosen," do you mean he has to lead the second fireteam? Or do you mean he has to be the second person in your main group in the last fight with the BUB*?

Because we're just that awesome;)

My first canon used to be a colonist/Sole survivor but I felt it was a bit too much drama for one character (no offense to those who have canons with the same backgrounds)
