Also one more thing, you'll notice I have a few little pictures of a few characters/races (Jack, Wrex and Geth as well as a 'support Ashley' banner) and I was wondering if anyone here could show me a, reasonably small enough, little picture or banner to represent Garrus support that I could add there as well.
Cosmetic I know but given that he's been consistantly Shepard's ally through two games now I feel I needed to advertise my support for him to return.

There's also a giant listing of Garrus banners here.

EDIT: Ninja'd! Albeit with a different link to the same thing :P

Before the comic came out, a part of me expected the females to have little or no cowl at all. If there's any part of a Turian that I find most masculine, that would be it. But then I realized that wouldn't make much sense considering Saren's was small enough that for a while I thought he didn't have one.

Saren's cowl is about the same size as Garrus' in his casual outfit. The reason why it looks so much smaller than armored turians is because what he wears is lighter than even light armor. It's about half light armor and half skin-tight suit. Interesting, considering the fact that be probably didn't have biotics until after meeting Sovereign, and seems to like close-combat. Now I'm starting to think he knows how to fight like Kai Leng and bulky armors don't allow enough movement for that.

The armour in the comic confuses me as well and I still subscribe to the theory that females only have shorter fringes than males and of course they would have the essential plating on the back of their heads and necks. The comics aren't exactly the most accurate depiction of the males either so, I'll take it with a grain of salt. Looking forward to seeing a young Saren in the next issue, I was rather impressed wiht Desolas' colouration and hope Saren gets a similar treatment from the artists.

Saren is in the preview of #2 here. :D As you can see, he looks like a younger version of Desolas. The two of them have always been drawn well in every picture I've seen of them. Actually, I think they have the best art in the comic. And I'll have Evolution #2 really soon so I can tell you guys about all of the Saren-related awesome!

Hello Garrus thread! I've been lurking for some time but haven't actually posted anything, so figured I'd drop in and introduce myself. Must say I love all the Garrus/Turian love here, not to mention the general politeness of this thread.

Anyhoo, I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I wanted everyone's opinion. I recently decided to do a second playthrough with my main femShep. The only thing I am unsure about is how I want to play the suicide mission. The first time through, Garrus was with Shepard, as he was every mission before that. However, I always feel a little guilty about keeping him with me instead of making him a fire team leader. I felt guiltier when I played LotSB and read his dossier.

I guess my question is, how much of an effect do you all think it will have on ME3? What do you do with him on the suicide mission? I certainly don't want to stunt the guy's potential, but I like having him there watching Shep's back. I'm completely torn on whether I want to bring him along again for each part of the final mission, or let him be the fire team leader.

Welcome to the Garrus thread! :)

I let Garrus be fire team leader both times (and if he's second team leader, Shepard gives him a pat on the shoulder after he gets hit, which I think is adorable for a romanced or friend Garrus), then I bring him to the suicide mission. If you want to catch Garrus, make sure he's in the squadmate slot on the right. If you want Garrus to catch you, bring Thane or Jack as the other squadmate. Hope that helps!

But, of course, the tumblr I snatched it from did not give an artist source. Anyone in this thread know? I'd like to give the artist responsible some props for giving me such a hearty laugh.

It also makes me wonder if I'll ever get tired of calibration jokes.

Ahahahah. So I'm not the only one who caught the crazy obsessive vigilante vibes from Garrus and related them to Rorschach. If anyone could link the DA entry or something I'd be glad to favorite this.

Is it me or is Garrus physically bigger and more robust in ME2? Either his outfit is blukier or he worked out a lot or something. His legs are considerably thicker than in the first game, as are his arms and his waist. Perhaps it's something to do with closeup shots in ME2 that are more cinematic and make certain things appear bigger because of perspective.

It's just the overall impression I get, especially when he's hiding from the gunship during his recruitment.

His outfit is definitely bulkier. I think they may have done this in part to make his appearance more appealing romance wise.

Also, graphics improved. But turians are all bigger and bulkier, not just him. Though he seems to have grown a foot.

@YamiSnuffles - I like to have him as the secondary leader like it's some kind of reassurance that Garrus can do more than take a rocket to the face and calibrate. Also...it makes the Suicide Mission feel oddly romantic.

When I first read that, I was not thinking "height"

^ Yuh huh. He has reach you know ;)

And I always felt that way about the suicide mission as well, pulling him onto the collector pad, him pulling you onto the Normandy, the pat on the back, and even that little nod you get when he is assigned as first team leader. All builds a nice fuzzy feeling of camaderie :D

@Yami: Welcome to the Garrus - thread! I hope you enjoy it here :) And like Kim, I always put his as the fire team leader both times and then have him with me in the final squad.

And I agree, that comic is hysterical.

I did my second play through with a femshep(renegade), romanced Garrus and realized something,(;?) Garrus reminds me of a character from a really old ps1 game I had called Star Gladiator.

Anyways, Garrus is fun.:D

I'd say it must mostly be his heavier armor, because he shrinks down a bit in the romance scene. And... that went somewhere horrible. :P But, yeah, Turians in general are a bit bulkier in this game than they were in ME1. I am conflicted about which I like more. Original Garrus was all sleek but his new armor is quite manly.

Also, thanks all for the welcome and the advice. I think I will put him as fire team leader this time around. The first time around I didn't look at spoilers and I was worried he might die, so I kept him with me. I have since learned otherwise and the shoulder pat is very cute. Now I just need to make sure he's in the right slot. First time I caught Tali/she caught me because I didn't know how to have Garrus do it.

I finally got Evolution #2! :D And it has Saren! Just like last time, I'll post all of the important turian-related information for anyone who wants to know.

EVOLUTION SPOILERS!

- Well, I won't be getting Saren and his brother confused anymore. In the last comic, Desolas had a light blue/purple tint that appeared to be reflected from the lighting, as it sometimes does with Saren's silver/gray faceplate. Now, his colors are definitely brighter - his faceplate is purple, his fringe and skin are dark blue, and he has some blue tattoos. Yeah, I know. The tattoos all of a sudden kind of confused me too, but it might have something to do with this...

- Desolas is now followed by two "bodyguards," as Saren calls them - the giant cloaked turian husks. He also spoke to one of them in the same language they used in the last issue, and TIM understood it (and also spoke back in the same language). I'm not sure if this language has anything to do with the Reapers, or if it's just untranslated turian, because TIM could speak in asari later on. Of course, after Desolas saw this, he wanted to study TIM more, but hasn't had the chance yet.

- Okay, this part was hilarious. Saren was in charge of bringing TIM and Eva (the human prisoners) back to General Williams. Eva obviously hates Desolas, and when she sees him there, she tackles him to the ground. Desolas looks shocked, and Saren pulls her off of him. He looks very awkward, like he's trying not to touch her "funny bumps" (which are showing way too much cleavage for a prisoner on an enemy ship) and her ass. Desolas says, "Easy with her, Saren. They may bark like varren -- but they're fragile." I like that line, because for some reason, I always thought Saren would be the type to make that comparison. xD Saren responds, "I had to do something, brother -- your new bodyguards aren't much use." Saren called him "brother." :D How adorable. I wanted to see how those two would interact with each other.

- I'm not sure how much Saren knows about the artifact in comparison to Desolas. Desolas says (about the turian husks), "They have their purposes. You simply have to know how to talk to them." It seems strange that he would explain this to Saren if he already knew. The "know how to talk to them" line could imply that they're not speaking in turian, because Saren would no doubt know how to speak his own language.

- Desolas is so sarcastic. It's adorable. He says, "Sorry if I didn't properly identify myself when we met on Shanxi, General Williams -- but your people were fleeing at the time. I assumed you were busy."

- At the end of the comic, when TIM is looking for the artifact again, he met up with Saren in the process of looking for information. Saren set up a trap, but didn't completely expect it to be TIM. He says, "I'll be damned. You found your way here -- just like Desolas guessed." Saren also reveals the name of the artifact, the Arca Monolith. And he calls TIM by his last name "Harper," just as I thought. At this point, Saren has turian huska with him now - at least four, plus an extra (TIM's teammate, Ben).

- Desolas probably isn't indoctrinated at this point. The turian husks told him that they were being called to return to the artifact. If they had to tell him, then he must not have felt it. I'm not sure what that says about TIM though...

Edit: Because I forgot one.

Thanks for the spoilers =D

The language thing reminds me of how Shepard can understand the prothean language. That was because of the Cipher, though, not because of the beacon or a monolith, mmm...

Desolas seems awesome. Too bad the female turian is out of the picture, Eva appears to be completely useless.

It's interesting how the turian husks are not mindless like the human ones. Perhaps they are something else altogether?

No problem. :) I always look up the spoilers too. Everything TIM-related has been posted in the TIM thread, if anyone wants to know that too.

Spoilers

Yeah, I'm not sure if we'll be seeing Abrudas again. The war is "officially" over, so it depends on if she's staying with Desolas' team to study the artifact or not. She did seem cool, from what little we saw of her. And it appears that she was on a first-name basis with Desolas... although, most people were. Saren is the same way. Even though he calls people by their last name, he introduces himself as Saren. That might be because it's confusing to use "Arterius" with two brothers on the same ship though. Maybe they just got used to it.

I didn't like Eva either. She seems like the typical "girl who's on the same team as the main guy," who I find annoying.

The turian husks are definitely advanced. TIM says so himself, though I doubt he has anything to compare them too. They're a lot larger than normal turians, but the human husks we're used to seeing are thin and human-sized. They don't attack wildly, and they can communicate. They can hear the artifact calling to them. Interesting.

@Kim: Yep. "Arterius" is the turian word for "badass." Unless they get it from their mother... *twirls invisible mustache thoughtfully*

And Vakarian is turian for "one stylishly suave bastard."

I've wondered about Saren's parents before. Desolas is almost exactly like I imagined him, just older than I would have guessed. I figured Saren's father, if he's still alive, is also the type to hate humans after the war for killing one of his sons. I imagine him to be very strict, training his sons for combat while the other kids are still playing Galaxy of Fantasy. xD I also picture him as the type who doesn't really show affection - still loves his kids, but treats them more like soldiers sometimes. No way to know if it's true or not, but for them to be so skilled and of such high rank at a young age, they must have been naturally strong in combination with good training. Saren was promoted to active service after "only" a year of boot camp, which almost makes it seem like he didn't need the extra training.

The one thing I made up about Saren's mother was just for laughs. It involves Saren looking through her book collection, thinking he found a novel about the war when it was really a turian-human romance novel. He was scarred for life and never looked at her book collection again.
