I saw that picture in one of the old Garrus threads. It actually caused the creation of a banner that said "flying varren for ME3." xD

I could see Fenris maybe being a combo of Jack and Garrus. My only issue being humor and loyalty. To me, the main reason I love Garrus is that he makes me laugh all the time and he's loyal to the end. Fenris, meanwhile, never made me laugh and was always storming off. I think I was too much of a mage sympathizer in that game to ever fully love Fenris.

If he still had more of his humor, I'd say Anders is fairly close to Garrus. He's funny and he's extremely passionate about justice. Granted, he ihas to be passionate about justice with said spirit inside him but that definitely gave him a Garrusy vibe for me. On the other hand, I never saw Garrus breaking my Shepard's heart but felt like Anders had a blinking sign above his head warning off Hawke.

I agree. I didn't mean that each character had all of the others qualities, just that they have a little of both. :)

And we both know Garrus would never break Shepard's heart (on purpose), but... he can accidently kill her. Lucky Shepard doesn't have any allergies to turians.

My problem is, my favorite characters are generally heroes, but I seem to be an expert at loving the heroes that will somehow end up crushing me to pieces. Since I get so invested in those characters, I haven't managed to get used to it. That's why I am still hoping Garrus is immune to this particular problem. So far he seems imbued with so much awesome that he could pull out ahead in the end.

When my favorite characters actually aren't villains, which is very rare, they tend to almost die. If Garrus follows that pattern, then he already had his brush with death in ME2 and should be fine.

Hello all! Long time lurker first time poster.

Was really interested in the comparisons between Garrus and the DA2 love interests. My first playthrough I romanced Anders (completely missed the mission where you get Fenris >_<) and one of my first thoughts upon meeting him was:

"Hmm... outlaw with good intentions who failed at his first job (CSEC/Wardens) and now lives in the cruddiest part of town trying to do good... Wizard Garrus?!"

Another similarity between them! :) And welcome to the Garrus thread.

I totally missed Fenris' recruit mission too. I had to go back several hours and replay. xD

I haven't played DA2 yet, but doesn't Justice possess Anders and then becomes Vengeance?
Does that make Garrus ... Space Anders o_O?

Loghain reminded me of Saren a little.

Yes, he does. Anders/Justice is now my second favorite possessed well-intentioned extremist with a blue glow. I knew my favorite characters follow a pattern, but that's oddly specific. xD

The last time we compared Saren to DA characters, we decided he's a combination of Loghain and Duncan.

Mornin and welcome JackieDee.

oh gods... Space Anders. hehe. oh Anders hates me so much right now, its a bit depressing. I'll romance him on my next playthrough. hard to resist the sexy elf.

So.. out of curiousity on here... does anyone happen to have ME2 for PS3? My xbox copy may be leaving me very soon to go to Afghanistan... and I was considering picking it up for PS3 cause I know for a fact that i'm gonna want ME3 for ps3 for the graphics. but since ME1 was not on PS3... gah! so confusing.

and too many acronyms.
probably I should just stick with 360 and buy another copy, yeah?

I don't see much of Duncan in Saren, tbh :-/ other than them being the senior members of their respective clubhouses.

I tried the PS3 demo and didn't notice that big of a change. Unless you do a side by side comparison you can hardly tell the difference.

I would recommend buying the Xbox copy again. The PS3 comic does a horrible job of retelling ME1, with several things missing and inaccurate. >_>

And they're willing to go to extreme measures for their cause, including killing off their recruit/apprentice to keep a secret. The other things that were mentioned are from one of the novels, which I haven't read yet.

Yes, I'd stick with an xbox copy. The only upside to the ps3 version is the flying garrus comic panel <_<.

But Loghain was way more extreme in his methods than Duncan, and the way he killed the king by betraying him is more similar to how Saren killed Nihlus from the back than Duncan killing the guy in self-defense.

Maybe I don't see it because Duncan is way more open minded about who can become a grey warden than Saren is about the spectres, and the way he's so loyal to the king as opposed to Saren's loyalty to the council.

I always felt Fenris was basically Sten, then take a bit of Thane and Garrus. Anders is the bastard child of Garrus and Joker in my opinion.

Yeah, I think Saren has more similarities to Loghain, mainly as a result of their pasts. He has similarities to both, but not enough yet to completely remind me of one or the other. We'll see if that changes after I read the books. The connection to Anders/Justice (well-intentioned extremist, possessed, blue glow) was the one that seemed most obvious to me while playing the game. I like all three of those characters, but none nearly as much as Saren. I guess they're missing the awesome that is his personality.

For the Xbox or PS3, well if you want to sit through that comic then go ahead and get the PS3 version, but if not, I'd stick with the Xbox version.

Re: Common Qualities
I can see that BioWare characters all have things in common. Example: Merrill reminds me of Tali. I see where you guys are getting Fenris and Anders for Garrus, but he's got that little touch of humor like Varric. They also seem to care...like how Varric sorta watches out for Merrill like a big bro, Garrus cares for Shepard as a friend and, if romanced, more then that. (Might just be me, though. >_>)

Did you play Awakening? Anders makes a lot of jokes back then. I can see a Varric-Merrill sort of relationship between Garrus and Tali though.

I don't mind the similarities. :) I mean, my favorite characters from different series have a lot in common, and most of the time, I instantly like other characters with those same traits. It would be sad if there was never another one like them.

No, I haven'tb played Awakening. I've heard good stuff about it and all, I might get it at some point, I don't know yet...
But yeah, I could see a Varric-Merrill relationship for Garrus and Tali.

Uh-oh, don't mention Merrill/Tali. It makes me think of this...

Or worse, this:

But the way I figure it, it would always be possible to find commonalities between favorite characters from any series. Otherwise, what would make them all appealing to one person? That said, I can't say why I love DA2 Anders so much. Awakenings, I understood, but now Anders has little in common with my usual favorites. The best I've been able to guess is that he's mind controlling me with his puppy eyes.

*hides from scary Hawke-loo* yikes! keep it away!

Awakening... i was so disappointed by Awakening its not even funny. amazing characters, wonderful story... but ... it was kinda like they tried too hard. Also, I had it on hard... and I walked into the room and looked at things and they died. I was level 30, they were level 3. Just ... didn't work.

Also. I normally dislike dwarves. I'm a bit racist against them, to be honest. but Varric? HE"S AMAZING. :D I can DEFINITLY see a similarity between him and Garrus like Shadow said. I dunno. I guess its a bit silly to be like "Garrus is like this guy mixed with this guy and ...etc" cause if you think about it, everyone is a bit like everyone, even IRL.
They're all just AWESOME. and for some reason I'm going for the irritatingly hard to deal with elf this time. I totally shoulda been all after Anders cause his personality is a bit more like what I usually go after, but .... i LIKE Fenris. *sighs*
Stupid BioWare. eating my life. and my soul.

Edited to be more Mass Effect-y.   Um. i need more Garrus in my life. For serious.    i'm sad that ME never came out on PS.  I prefer PS to xbox.  *sighs*  guess I'll have to suck it up and just stick with Microsoft..  *kicks Microsoft*  lol, and i will have multiple copies of every game forever now. :D

I miss my sane turian who can at least be talked down from vengeance.

Someone should have given Anders a sniper rifle.

I don't talk characters down from vengeance. The revenge is one of the things I like about them. >:D

A lot of the things Anders was doing when we met him in the beginning were similar to Garrus during his time as Archangel. And there's the whole obsession with justice... although, Garrus is a lot less extreme.
