*Waves* Sable! It's been aaaages! The Mass Effect forums are fun, the mods are away, so let the party begin :D

I may have to start making a character profile for a turian now that everyone is doing it. Darn peer pressure! And an Asari who flirts with no one? Is that a different species or something?

I so need a DA2 playthrough for Anders. I haven't played the game all the way through yet, and people keep on going about how I will cry about Anders in the future, And how something really BIG happens. Argh...
Edit: And a Garrus top. This picture is so full of sexy that it's ridiculous.

Make a friend for Calix! He already has some friends because he was originally planned out as Saren and MainShep's adopted son, but he could always use more. (His best friend is that turian store owner's firstborn son named after Shepard, and his girlfriend is the turian councillor's daughter... who doesn't exist in-game, as far as I know.)

I won't post any spoilers about Anders in the Garrus thread, but let's just say you'll either think it's sad or awesome. You know my crazy group of favorite characters. I thought it was awesome.

TASH!  *glomp*

I would hop in on the turian RP...but DA2 has eaten my brains.  But it's good to be back--self imposed internet blackout pre-DA2 meant no Mass Effect forums either.  I missed you crazy turian-loving ladies!

And yeah, as for DA2...let's just say that when Anders says he'll break your heart, that's the devs' kind warning for you to back off before the crap really hits the fan.  As though ANYONE could think that romancing an adorable insane abomination was a good idea

...I thought it was a brilliant idea. I also think Saren as a resurrected romance option would be a good idea. (Hint, there's a reason why I'm comparing him to Saren here.)

I'm not actually using Calix in an RP. He's just in my master plan and the occassional dialogue with Saren and my Shepards.

Anders is totally awesome, don't get me wrong. But my next DA2 playthrough will be an Anders one. I'm going for Fenris on this one (and geez is he hard work!)

I will make a friend for Calix! And I remember that turian store owner and his crazy roleplay salesman techniques!
'Imagine you're hunting a Kathka.'
I mean, how many till operators say that these days? I think I will make a turian lady, a biotic one, of course!

And insane adorable abominations? I'm all in!

Don't say that the devs, me, Kim, Varric, Seb, Fenris, Isabela, the game, and Anders himself didn't warn you :D

Hmm...I have trouble thinking of original turian characters for the Mass Effect franchise.  When I played on the FB RP, my OC was a human.  I think I'm just not comfortable with how little we know about turians (relative to, say, asari) to come up with turian original characters.  Suggestions?

Yay, Calix is no longer the only biotic among his friends. :) Well, at least the friends who aren't "related" to him through a very large extended family. And I agree, that turian store owner I keep forgetting the name of is awesome.

@Sable: Not sure if I have any good advice. Calix was originally created as a nameless, hypothetical badass biotic turian kid who was too cool to look at the explosions. The rest of him was planned out based on that.

True, Asari have loads on them. And still, they are probably my least favourite species in the Mass Effect universe...

And yeah, turians seem to pretty much fit into the military, strict, honour bound stereotype, except for Garrus of course (one reason why I love him!) And because you want to break the stereotype with an OC, AND make them original, it is quite difficult to do one for a turian without copying of Saren or Garrus.

I totally copied Saren and Garrus' pasts when I made Calix. I took a bunch of horrible things that happened to them and Earthborn Ruthless, and worked them into the poor nine-year-old's history. But he was made to be an exaggerated kind of badass.

I think making a turian character is a lot like making a human character though. Their personalities seem very human, and even their culture has similarities to certain human cultures.

Heartbreaker or not, I'm all about that insane, adorable abomination. Who ever said things would be easy with a possessed Warden apostate anyway?

As for Turian characters, I honestly don't know where I'd start. I am really insane about accuracy, so I think I would drive myself nuts wondering if something about my character didn't fit. Like, we know so little about Turians, I would constantly fear making something wrong.

Side note: I love that Turian store owner. I was just like, "D'aw, you can name all the little Turian babies after me that you want mister."

Just have to drop by here to note that I love Anders and I loved him even more after what he did.

Also, is Turian character profiles really that on-topic?

See thats partially why i love Fenris.  i kinda like the brooding emo boy.  and he's becomes sooo sweet if you friendmance him.

Also, yes on the Turian characters thing.  I need to do some heavy research soon.  I see turian characters all over devArt... and i'm so damned inspired, but.. really there's sooo much history to them and i want to do it justice. :D i'll be on here for help soon enough.

Since I've been gone for awhile, I feel like stopping in and giving people a reminder about this post. This thread is for discussing Garrus. If you want to discuss turians in general or the ME: Evolution comic, you need a different thread.

I thought the whole point of including "turian discussion" in the thread title was so that we could discuss everything turian here. Does that mean we need to change the thread title?

Oh well. I'll just post all the Evolution spoilers in Clan V for now. And... probably make a Saren fan thread at some point.

They talk about quarians on the Tali thread, don't they o_O? Discussing whatever has to do with turians in the comics seems pretty much on topic to me. I don't remember ever being fan threads about species.

OMG PALAVEN =D =D ... where Garrus comes from. Allegedly.

And if anyone wants to see the description of Palaven (and information on turian religion), it's all in Clan V. Unfortunately, I don't think non-members can look at Clan V, if I remember right...

But, this part is Garrus-related. Garrus said that Virmire reminded him of where he grew up on Palaven. Unless other parts of Palaven are different than what was shown, he must have been talking about the temperature. Virmire was a tropical paradise. Palaven is very much the picture of a radiation-scarred world.

I think he grew up somewhere else on Palaven, it'd be a weird comment to make just because of the temperature. Unless planets in Mass Effect can only have one type of climate... like in every other sci-fi series ever.

Those were my thoughts too. It's a bit unrealistic to just assume that every area of the planet is the same, rather than being incredibly varied like Earth, but... that's what we've been shown so far, really. I just can't imagine "tropical paradise" when I look at that picture of Palaven. Maybe in the areas that aren't big cities, but... it reminds me of Venus, only less uninhabitable. I need to find those "Palaven for ME3" banners to show you guys which one Palaven really looks like. (Edit: Problem, none of the banners match.)

...Garrus lied to us! xD

Hmm. Well, all the more reason Shep needs to go with Garrus to Palaven now. Either just to see what it's like, or yell at Garrus for lying about what it was like. In fact, I could see Shep taking a vacation there with Garrus and then being mad because it was nothing like Virmire.

Maybe Garrus has just idealized it in his brain? Or he just knew we'd never get a chance to prove him wrong.

I like that theory, that Garrus has an idealized version of Palaven in mind. He grew up there, but for all we know, he might not have lived there after the age of 15 when he went off to boot camp. I assume he joined C-Sec like his father right after serving in the military, and moved to the Citadel. If he misses home, and sees little things that remind him of it - like the heat and the wildlife with metallic shells - it might be enough for the comparison.

It would be awesome to see Shepard's reaction though.

FemShep: I thought this would be a tropical paradise. It's so hot. D:
Garrus: ...You don't think this is like Virmire?
FemShep: No, I don't! And it better be a reflection from the sky that makes your water look green.
Garrus: Huh. I thought it looked like Virmire.
FemShep: My sister is so lucky, in a beach house on Virmire with Saren right now. >_>

Sorry if I derailed. I thought we could discuss all things pertaining to turians in general here as well.

And hehe, is your femshep sisters with mainshep Kim? Funny how dimensions cross over like that :D

That's what I thought too... but I guess that means I'll be spending more time in Clan V. The description of Palaven and information on turian religion is there too.

Yes, MainShep and Garrus-romancing FemShep are sisters. Twins, actually. They both like strong, vengeful turian Renegades. And FemShep would never try to steal MainShep's man, so she tried to flirt with a lot of other turians until it finally worked with Garrus. The secret is - don't flirt, be blunt. Turians don't understand subtlety. xD

I honestly don't see why the discussion couldn't be separated, but people's resistance to taking diverging discussions to separate threads is something about character threads that have always annoyed me.

Part of it is the fact that some conversations lead into others - for example, a discussion about Garrus' years in the turian military and C-Sec leading into turian culture and citizenship tiers. Or Garrus' line about growing up on Palaven leading to speculation about what his homeworld was like. And even though there might be enough discussion about turian culture, Palaven, and major characters like Saren (maybe even Nihlus) to have threads of their own, where would minor characters like Lorik, Li, Warden Kuril, and other interesting turian NPCs who only get brought up once in a while be talked about? It just doesn't seem like there's enough about them to justify a separate thread, and this one does include "turian discussion" in the title to let others know that it's not just about Garrus.

Just trying to show our point of view here. Anyway, here's something on-topic and Garrus related.

Out of every mission Garrus has gone through with Shepard, excluding his own, which one do you guys think would be his favorite? I haven't thought too long about it, but my first instinct says Tali's loyalty mission. I think he sees Tali as an old friend, and as the only teammate he could know from ME1, it would be inspiring to listen to Shepard's speech about how they saved the Citadel together. He looked like he was listening very closely and giving the trial his undivided attention. From a gameplay viewpoint, fighting all of those geth with Shepard and Tali would have been just like old times, and his combat skills work great against them.
