Sorry if I derailed. I thought we could discuss all things pertaining to turians in general here as well.

I honestly don't see why the discussion couldn't be separated, but people's resistance to taking diverging discussions to separate threads is something about character threads that have always annoyed me.

If you want, we could always make separate threads to discuss Saren and turians in general. But people know to come here to ask Kim the Sarendoctrinator of anything pertaining to Saren, and we often talk about turians on here, because it is interesting that Garrus - as a character - defies the turian stereotype in so many ways.

I see it all as related, and Chimerva has the turian part in the title. And like Kim says, discussions about Garrus often leads to turian culture and other turians. But like I said, if you class it as derailing, then I will stop.

Edit: Kim, I thought that Garrus would also really like Jack's recruitment mission. He believes in stopping injustices and punishing criminals, but I think what happened on Purgatory showed him that if taken too far, inflicting justice on criminals can actually make the situation even worse i.e leading to all the prisoners escaping in order to try and capture Shepard.

I see at as beneficial to him, just so he doesn't take his sexy vengeance thing too far. Also, it includes many tactical maneuvres, and opportunities for him to snipe. Which Garrus loves.

And discussing the turian parts of Evolution (with spoiler warnings, of course) in this thread gives everyone a more polite environment to talk about it than in the main forums. Unfortunately, most threads about Evolution, including the announcements, get derailed with comments like "the comics are horrible" or "this writer is better than that one" rather than getting much conversation from the people who like them. I think they're great. And if anyone wants to talk about them in Clan V, I made a thread for that.

Back on topic, I agree that Purgatory is a good lesson for Garrus. I liked his dialogue with Mordin, where he says that the prisoners' violent nature justifies the guards' actions and Mordin says that the prisoners are violent because of the way the guards treat them. Mordin gains +10 approval from Earthborn Ruthless. Meanwhile, Garrus worries about why he's so good at breaking out of prison.

I like that dialogue too, I usually take them both with me to Purgatory (just because the 'starting companions in ME2 aren't my piece of cake.) Garrus is awesome, but he still has things to learn, he isn't perfect and not without his flaws.

So his philosophy that criminals deserve to be punished doesn't take into account situations like Jacks. Where there childhood lives, caused by the acts of others, have created them into the criminal they are today.

Which means I guess Purgatory is more of a learning ground for Shepard than his favourite mission...

And this is what my Earthborn Ruthless hopes Garrus will realize by fighting on the same team as him for all this time. He's more harsh than Garrus would ever be against the criminals that he feels deserve retribution, but his situation isn't black and white at all. Obviously, Garrus' views aren't completely black and white. He would never label Shepard and Jacob's father under the same label of "criminal" with no more thought into it than that. And Garrus can be great friends with an Earthborn, despite the fact that one is a former criminal and the other is an ex-cop. My Earthborn Ruthless is a very patient man, and he won't blame Garrus for being a bit ignorant because he had such a fortunate life. xD

I always figured part of Garrus would love Grunt's loyalty mission. After all the seriousness, it seems like a chance to just shoot the heck out of some stuff would be fun. Plus, it seems like a good way to tell Grunt, "See, Garrus is fun too. He also likes to kill things... so don't try to kill him." Or maybe it's just because I get a twisted sense of pleasure in having Garrus along in the squad that takes out the first Thresher Maw in centuries.

"Just like old times?" :) I brought Garrus with me to fight thresher maws in ME1 too. He must have thought my Shepards were crazy to get out of the Mako and fight a giant sandworm that shoots acid head-on.

That is a good way to help Garrus bond with Grunt - or any krogan, really. Bond over a love of killing big things.

Oh I'm sure he loved the suicide mission. He got to boss most of the crew around =D

Also Thane's recruitment mission. He has many speaking bits on that one.

Yeah, he did seem very impressed by Thane.

I thought of the suicide mission (and the Battle of the Citadel too), but I figured he would have just as many negative memories associated with them as well. Shepard and Garrus almost died a few times in the suicide mission, and he sounded really worried about Shepard at the end of his run as second team leader. In the end though, I'm sure it had a positive effect on him to know that he lead a team and brought them all back alive.

http://social.biowar...99/polls/17182/

Spotted this poll while waiting for the "live chat" with Mac Walters to start. I'd have sworn Garrus wasn't in it last night - but I've been awake (barring keyboard naps) for a couple of days now - may not be too lucid. Oh, and hello all.

Um hi Garrus thread. Have never really posted or even lurked on here before, mainly due to the guilt. On my second me2 playthrough I decided to see what would happen if I didn't do any loyalties or get any upgrades, long story short the seeker swarms made off with my Garrus...
I can still here the screems... Have never allowed that to happen again, to any character. Suddenly felt the need to throw myself upon you mercy/judgement.

@Bhictoo: Had to vote for Garrus. Even though I think Anders' romance is brilliant, Garrus is my sentimental favorite.

Thanks for reminding me about the livechat video, and just in time too. I had completely forgotten.

@Death of Seph: I really don't think anyone here will mind that you did an "everyone left behind" playthrough. I imagine their response will be similar to mine - "I never even watched the youtube videos." xD

Image IPB  Thanx, will always remember the lesson Garrus taught me that day tho...   Miranda is not as good a biotic as she thinks she is!

I've noticed that they like to mislead people. Jacob offers to go through the vents. Miranda suggests that any biotic can hold the shield. Garrus lead a team of specialists on Omega, so next time, you should just think, "What would Garrus do?"

Well that was - short!

@Kim, did you have any questions? I couldn't think of any myself, being thought impaired atm. :)

Edit: If I'd seen Garrus in that poll, I would have voted for him.  I just did not see his name, so I voted for Alistair.

I did a playthrough where I had an unloyal Jack do the biotic shield. And Garrus was taken away by the seeker swarms. However, from a fanfic perspective, being taken away by the seeker swarms is the only 'uncertain death.' You don't actually see them die, it is just assumed that they did.

So maybe, you can anticipate that Garrus (due to his incredible awesomeness) may just make a miraculous return from the collector station, with a trail of seeker swarms behind him, and a smokin' sniper rifle...

Nope, I didn't ask any questions. I just watched. :) And I thought you guys might be interested to know that Mac mentioned Garrus as one of his favorites/most interesting to write during the interview. I believe he said that was ME1 Garrus.

@Tasha: Are you saying a Garrus who gets dragged off by the seeker swarms survived in your fanfic? >:D Interesting.

Not in mine, but it is a fanfic I have planned out. Just not gotten round to written yet...
Heroes Never Die (in the sig) has Garrus dissappearing, but it wasn't seeker swarms.

Poor Garrus, sharing Shepard's fate for a while there. At least Shepard probably wouldn't be as quick to give up on Garrus as the Council was to give up on Shepard. And if your Shepard is anything like my MainShep, I imagine she would try just as hard to save Garrus as MainShep did for Saren... who the Council also gave up on. I'm seeing a pattern here.

Garrus, rethink your Spectre plans. The Council will leave you for dead/brainwashed and crazy and ignore whatever you tried to warn them about. xD

Yeah, she goes through A LOT to find Garrus. Even when everyone thought he was dead. And it is based on my mainshep too, and you may appreciate it Kim. It isn't finished yet, but at the end of what is currently written, you can see LOTS of similarities between my main shep and Saren.

I had best not say anything else :D

She's similar to Saren?! *clicks on the fanfiction link right now* xD

On the topic of Garrus and characters that our Shepards would risk their lives to save, I'd like to point out that my Shepards would go through more trouble to save Garrus than any other squadmate. Even my EvilShep appreciates Garrus as one of the few people he can trust to stay loyal, and would hate to lose him.

If s/he knew or suspected that he was Archangel (and c'mon, from his bio it was suspected..."sniper/Omni-Tool expert" or whatever, along with the knowledge that he's a turian that you pick up)--even if there's a CHANCE it's him, how can Shepard not go to at least check it out?? :D

Having not spoiler'd myself for ME2, I had to say, when I read the Archangel profile, I was like..."Wait... do you think?"

When during the mission they started describing him and said turian I got REALLY FREAKIN' EXCITED.

I didn't really equate Garrus with a sniper rifle through ME1 because well, I didn't pay that much attention to it. XD But the omnitool thing and the fact that you came across Tali in the beginning of the game had me seriously hopeful.

So they did good at keeping it low key but the signs were there!

Yeah, they did shove him towards the assault rifle in ME1, didn't they? lol

If I remember right, his default weapon in both games was the assault rifle. I know it is in ME2, because now that I'm learning the combat system better, I actually pay attention to that sort of thing.

I read all the spoilers I could find before ME2 came out, so I knew Garrus was Archangel and a romance option.
