 Garrus is a very good shot. It's one thing to have a killer personality, but it's another kettle of Krogan entirely to be able to kill the **** out of things. His concussive shot is devastating, as is his ability to make out. Make out something fierce.

This last one wasn't actually from the article. It's a comment someone posted in response, but it was too awesome to not include:

reckon the calibration thing is just something he says to make Shepard feel

again in ME2 there appears to be actual emotion. It's like, "****. Garrus!
How ARE you? Man. Too long." With Tali and Liara and folk it's like they
found Shepard under a box in the basement - "Huh? Shepard? What are you
doing in here?" Remember that Garrus has a scar on his face that he got by
getting shot by a goddamn gunship. IN THE FACE. I am going to relabel all of my
cigarette packs with pictures of Garrus. And smoke them while walking away from
explosions.

I think that I need to have a Shep that had a thing with Nihlus. This now needs to happen.  And so she'd be all broody through ME, and then when Garrus is an LI in the second game, it'll be all like, 'yay another turian!"  lol. 
But I never really saw it in game with either Nihlus or Saren. Obviously i'm sure both of them hold a certain respect for Shepard...  being from a military society, they would respect her (or his) abilities and knowledge... but never really saw anything past that. 

I agree with the current Thane-theory. too forced...  too woobie. 

I am terrified for whats gonna happen with my Kaidan/Garrus love triangle. lol, thats why I saved a Shep for Kaidan, cause I still love him... I just... he's no Garrus. 

and that blog!  i saw that this morning, and had to go to work before I could post it!  OMG I LOVE IT. theperson who did that is an effing GENIUS!!!!     
It makes me love Garrus even more. I didn;t' think that were possible. lol. 

One last thing to note... I actually got annoyed at Garrus when finishing ME1 earlier. I know! its hard to do... but he was KILLING EVERYTHING before I coudl even get a shot off!  I was all like, "Way to show off, Vakarian..."  lol.

LOL, you might not ever want to talk to me again, but here goes, anyway
The first time I played ME1, I had nary a clue of what was going on/what to expect.  I was flying blind.
I start playing the first time.  First scene, 1500k, bla bla, Joker bla bla.  Then Nihlus walks in.
"1500 is good...Your captain will be pleased."
All I could think when I saw him (bear in mind, he had that skull-like black and white face paint, mind): "WHAT IS THAT THING, AND WHY  ISN'T ANYONE ATTACKING IT?!?"

.......I .....think i understand. i think. I think my brain broke a bit when I saw him. I think i remember wishing to GOD that he would be a part of my squad, and being rediculously sad when he went on his own. I think I replayed it a few times to see if I made different dialogue choices than I could change that part.
Imagine my sadness when I was wrong every time.


lol, i bet I know the answer to that question.  

Also, it took me sooooooooo long to realize that Garrus' visor was different. i feel dumb.

Actually, the thing that kept me from romancing Thane was that I felt really bad for the guy. This isn't your typical case of the oh-so tragic past, Bioware went way overboard. He lost his wife, his son hates him, and he's dying. I'm glad that I (as Shepard) was able to help him get his life back together, but romancing him seems like it would do more harm than good. He'd finally managed to make peace with his past, and he'd even made up with Kolyat, but if Shepard inserts herself in there it screws that all up. I think his best ending would be if he survives the suicide mission and spend the last months/years of his life with his son. I genuinely liked him as a character, which means I didn't want to romance him, if that makes any sense.

lol, I don't get it either. I'm not exactly new though, my problem is that I'm too old. I was here way back from when everyone transitioned from the old boards (back when nobody thought Garrus was going to be a romance option). Those were some great times. I left for a while though. It's like I'm a newbie all over again.

See, I didn't romance Thane because he and my Shep simply didn't get along.  Which made me the player really sad, but meh.  This is what I get for playing characters who differ from me.

Anyway, back to the awesomitude that is Garrus.  I fell in love with him about halfway through ME1.  It was the voice that did it.  The voice, the badassery, and the staunch loyalty.

I like Thane OK. He's not even in the top half of my list of favorite squaddies, but I didn't have any problem with him. And I agree - romancing him actually pops him out of his acceptance of his own death, which, for a dying dude, might not be the biggest of favors.

I do agree with those who say he was created to be stereotypically, ridiculously attractive, what with his cool voice, leather-clad-assassin-with-a-tragic-past-who-is-also-doomed... thing. But Bioware forgot something: When chicks say they like a sense of humor, they are not lying. Now I'm not saying Thane's humorless sadness isn't completely understandable. But I have no interest in making out with it.

I'm not saying every LI has to be a sarcastic guy, we have some of that already. Kaidan was sarcastic enough, from time to time, in ME1. And Garrus wins at sarcasm and life. I think if Mordin had been a love interest, he would have overloaded our sarcasm receptors, and we would all have lapsed into a coma.

So... maybe the seriouness was for the best?

IIRC, someone showed a pic of Garrus to someone, and the other person said something like, "Why does that cat have a toilet seat around his neck?"
I lol'd.  extensively.  Then someone (Xsause?) drew a scouter on it, and the rest is history. lol

If Mordin was a LI. ...omg. I would love it!! that would be the most silly romance ever.
That Thane comic is awesome. I do really really love Thane... I do.. I just... the way the romance was done felt too forced on me. (not like the Jacob or Kelly romance, mind you) but .... like, "YOU WILL LIKE THANE" lol.
