If you all are keen on the alternate location, it's really easy to set up a Livestream channel. You don't even have to sign up for the site (but anyone who wants to be a moderator will need to do so).

What name would you guys like to have? We should try to keep it short, classy, and descriptive of what the group. The kind of name you would give to a bar or pub, where people gather to unwind.

In-game bars: Darkstar, Eternity, Flux, Chora's Den, and there is that Palaven place on the Citadel (not sure what it is, a restaurant maybe?)

Oh lookie, top of the page, here's a screenshot that always amuses me:

I keep going over that in my head too. I'm cringing internally (and externally sometimes) at this. Cause I LIKE Kaidan. I do. And I'm not at all ashamed of that fact. I don't want to hurt him. S'why I'll have a playthrough where I don't romance him at all. Cause, there's really no option... its always going to be Garrus....

Also, I'm on EST too, jello. :D So right.. yes.

As for names...  could we just go with Palaven?  or somesuch?

Well the name for turians does come from "centurian" but I can understand cultural parallels with other societies. I think the different species of ME take on myriad aspects from different human cultures, but I'm not a historian or philosopher able to argue which culture the turians are most like.

And related to what Leonia brought up about an off-site hangout, I've been thinking of creating an IRC channel. Someone mentioned it a while back and the idea stuck with me. Thoughts?

Sounds good, though I'm a terribly slow typist. Would anyone object to the possibility of voice chat as well? I do that with people from another forum I frequent, and it works pretty well. Both vent and Skype are free voice-chat programs.

I'm not sure how into voice chat i'd be... honestly. if only cause I don't have a mic. we'll see though.

and I feel like a tool for never making the turian/centurian parallel

I wonder how Kaidan would react if you are romancing Garrus for instance?

Heh, that's one that I keep coming up with different dialogue for but mostly it starts out with..

Shepard: So.. Kaidan, good to see you again.
Kaidan: Yeah! Totally. Hey is there any chance we could get back together at some point?
Shepard: Um, I'm seeing someone else now..
Kaidan: Oh. Anyone I know?
Shepard: Actually, yes. It's Garrus.
Kaidan: Nice one, you must have gotten a sense of humour after all this time. But seriously, who is it?
Shepard: I'm not joking.
Kaidan: What?! No way. You chose some alien over me? What does he have that I don't? Look at the teeth, how do you even.. no wait don't answer that..I mean, wow, I could understand another human but this is a bit harder to get my head wrapped around.
Shepard: Wasn't it you who said something about all species are equal, all having their sinners and saints?
Kaidan: ...

/Kaidan fangirl hulking out

above is pretty out of character for Kaidan actualy.  I think he'd be surprised that its not human yes, but he'll be understanding, sad but understanding.  when you look at the treesome confrontation with Liara he has, he's not bother a so much by Shepard with Liara (who is an alien - more human lookign alien, but still an alien), as the fact that she's jerking them both around.   "just make a choice Shepard, if you don't want me I'll get over it, but stop stalling"  and actualy I think he might bemore aproving of Garrus then any other ME2 interest becasue of the history, long friendship, the fact that Garrus WAS there for Shepard.  Lastly, while he does still have feelingsfor Shepard, I don't think he would be THAT forward.  He's a mister "must keep to regulations, and leave a way out" remeber?

also - bear in mind that not every Shepard who romanced Garrus moved on from Kaidan.  and in that case, I think he would just be plain glad that Shepard found some happiness, and that she had a friendly face with her, when dealing with Cerberus

/deflates

where was I? oh yes.. Garrus love.

Surfing Garrus is made of WIN :)  as for what he tastes like... I'm not sure ingesting is advisable but for some reason I feel like there would bea hint of chalk and metal there.

Indeed, I'm also not claiming to be an expert on ancient Roman culture. My scholarship in that particular area is more focused on big time military stuff like Ceasar and the other Emperors, and the independent writers, storytellers, and philosophers. I might not have the most solid grasp of day-to-day Roman life. That said, there isn't as much documentation available about day to day roman life, whereas there is a metric crapton of primary sourced material about ancient China, because those dudes wrote everything down.

Thank you.  :D  I wasn't sure whether or not I would be the only Kaidan fangirl on here.   I still do prefer Garrus.... and Horizon honestly brings me to tears. But, I do love Kaidan. I think he'd be understanding. Sad, but understanding.

They sound like the ancient Mesopotamians, who seemed to take an inordinate amount of pleasure in listing everything you could think of. A majority of the primary sources are basically big long lists of stuff, usually things like "one goat to temple of An, five bales of hay to troops campaigning in Anatolia", etc.

Oops. See, this is what happens when you start talking about ancient history around me. My inner history geek can't shut up.

Oh certainly, jeweled, the conversation just hasn't gotten that far. I imagine Kaidan would be understanding and kind of relieved that Shepard has ended up with somone he knows is respectable and will take good care of her. Anyway, it isn't exactly how I expect things to go down but I sort of can hear Kaidan coming up with a "So.. is there any chance..for us again?" at some point, he'll want to be absolutely sure about things before getting his hopes up.

Now, reason I suggested Livestream is because it has a chat feature but it also lets at least one of us stream something (whether it be art, a game, a movie, whatever). IRC is ok but it's sort of ancient nowadays and not everyone will feel comfortable voice-chatting. However, if folks want to voice-chat Skype is probably a better option until there are too many people then someone has to find a dedicated Ventrilo server to host things on.

It can be a bit crazy with different time zones and a pain to manage whereas with the LS concept people can come  and go as they please, maybe just leaving one tab open when they are using their browser to drop by. It's not a seperate program or anything and streaming is a good way for folks to interact (gives those in the chatroom something to talk about if we run out of topics). It should be something really easy and casual that nobody feels like they have to be involved in all day long (unless they want to be).

Well, I have no idea about how Livestream works (or even what it is), which is why I suggested IRC (though IRC is text only, not voice chat).

Livestream does sound like the more versatile option, though! Looks like I should go get an account :P

(Though is there an option to turn any video-streaming in the channel off? I'm on a limited bandwidth connection and I don't want to use it all up by chatting because then I'm restriced to 64kbps for the rest of the month)

Well, I'll just start it up:

http://www.livestream.com/palaven

We can choose how to decorate the page, who to be moderators, who will have access to streaming (yes you can pause it or just leave it muted if you want), and all that good stuff as we go. And even if we want to change the name, no biggie. It's really easy to set this stuff up :)

To take off the history cap and put on the Roleplayer cap, this is the talk for the version of my Femshep who is staying with Garrus, as is most appropriate to this thread. I don't know how deep they'll actually go into this in game, I'd almost prefer it to be a bit shallower, because there are so many different emotions, different justifications. A lot of it is in your own Shepard's head (and different versions of my Shepard think entirely different things here.)

"Shepard, got a moment?"

"Sure Kaidan. What did you want to talk about?"

"I wanted to tell you, I didn't mean the things I said on Horizon. Except... except for the good things. You know?"

"I know. I loved you too, Kaidan. But when I got brought back, I needed somebody to lean on. I understand why you couldn't be that person for me then. It happens."

"So... Garrus, huh?"

"Yeah. I didn't see him that way, before; back then, I only had eyes for you. But we're a lot alike, he and I. More alike than seems possible, really. And so it goes. Oldest story in the history of the universe."

"Yeah. I'm glad to see you happy."

"Thanks."

"I almost don't want to say this, but you sort of broke me of my not-talking-about-things habit. It's stupid. but I'm always thinking... if things had been different. Just a little different, you know?"

"You said it yourself - that time we had was something that'll never come around again. It was once in a lifetime. I'm sorry that it's over, but... it is."

"Well, better to know for sure."

"To be honest, for a while I was in love with you both. But I know neither of you are the sharing type, and well... we had already stopped. Better to let it stay that way."

(I think she'd hold this last line back, but I'm putting it here anyway, because at the very least she'd be thinking it. Also, writing this, I think I figured out what Kaidan's song is. Stop making me break my own heart, Garrus thread!)

Oh CCG... Yes I think thats incredibly appropriate for how things might go. See, I'd like to see them go fairly in depth. I mean, if they advance the conversation wheel even past what they did for DA2... then they could get a serious amount of options on there for emotion. I'd like to see them do that. They've already put so much into it... they might as well go all the way.
but I'm a hopeless romantic and that's half the reason I play the damned games.

Also, this thread and you guys break my heart at least once a freaking day.

Oh, I'm with you there, Arcian.  I traveled to Rome when I was studying abroad in Europe and basically had a history geekgasm for a week.  I stumbled into an active archeological site when I was there; they were excavating a temple to Augustus's sister Octavia, which had been inside the brick walls of a 12th century church-turned-fishmarket.  Rome = win.

But... but... IRC! I'm always on IRC, and it works... mostly :-( Does anyone else sit on quakenet 24/7 or is that just me? Maybe it's old and basic, but it's a quick and easy way for private group chat.

If people really wanted I could probably host a dozen or so people on Ventrilo (server available)... it was used by some other group but looking at the logs no one has been on it for 2 years or something. Personally I'm not dead keen on voice chat anyway, as I'm always to/from the computer and prefer being able to follow things at my leisure.
