Also,according to the GI podcast, Garrus is confirmed as a permanent squad-mate. He should be in our team when we go to to the salarian homeworld (another article in the past has said this is one of the earlier missions of the game) where we'll be fighting Cerberus operatives. Liara is also in the team for this segment (I assume
Kaidan/Ashley and Sanders are also playable at this point).

Wait, Wash? Of all the Firefly characters, why Wash? Joker is clearly Wash, and not just because he's a pilot.

If anything I'd call Garrus closest to (a genderswapped) Zoe, the badass buddy.

I agree.  I'd put Shep as Mal, Garrus as Zoe.  Kaylee is totally Tali.  Mordin would be Simon since they're both doctors, but Mordin is too badass.  Hmm...
