Interviewer:...Okay...

I've been giggling for like 10 minutes over this.  I always loved this part of the show.  *sighs* dammit, now I have to go watch Firefly again.

Oh darn.

Yeah, Garrus is always the fire team leader for me, too.  I make Tali the escort for similar reasons--twice she's gotten the people under her killed; getting the Normandy crew to safety will restore faith in herself.

Well, she also brings down my "hold the line" score and is worthless against Collectors...

I only didn't make Garrus second fire team leader because I was taking him with me that time.

Sending Tali back with the crew is a good idea, I may do it in my future runs. As it was I sent Mordin back because of the "if they need medical attention, he can help" logic, but honestly I would have taken him to the final fight otherwise. I ended up taking Tali to the end, but reversing the roles makes a lot more sense.

It's in the third episode.  It actually sounds like something my Shepard would say about Garrus, but I can see it working for him also.

...that said, a good smut story goes a long way. :D

and yes. Firefly. Everyone ever should see firefly. Also, Serenity.

@CGG: Oh, man. Turian life-drawing. That reminds me of a completely stupid idea I had for an exploratory fanfic--alien exchange students. I wanted to delve into the life of the average Earth citizen at my age, goof around with the political shenanigans the Alliance and Hierarchy would get into to improve relations with one another, go in-depth with the racism, culture gap, and all those other goodies that go with sharing the galaxy with aliens... And I'd do it with minimal drama and no smut, because we really don't see enough of what it's like to actually live in the Mass Effect universe. There was going to be a life-drawing scene where one of the turian "young ambassadors" volunteered to model and freaked out half the class, what with being made of knives and all.

I, personally, have a problem distinguishing fascination from attraction. Herp derp.

And I must say, I am excited about the Mercutio comparison as well. Seriously, as much as I hated Romeo and Juliet, I really liked the guy--he was confident and goofy, and the first person to tell Romeo he was being an idiot, but stuck by him to the bitter end. A true bro.

I kind of have that "fascination vs. attraction" problem, but my response has been to round it down to fascination, which I succeed at 99% of the time. It was not always this way, but rounding the other way takes more time out of your day. (Also, when I know that the person in question is unlikely to be interested, it helps me round down. Otherwise I'd still be pining for Wrex and Mordin.)

That fic idea rocks, and you should totally write it, or do a few comics of vignettes from it. That's actually the best way, because we've already seen that you can draw - comic vignettes seem like something beyond fanfic. Maybe it's just because I'm so familiar with doujin culture, and doujin culture in Japan is its own little weird universe... but still! (And no, not that kind of doujin. My Slayers doujin collection is 98% humor-based!)

I can't bring myself to write fanfiction. I don't think there's anything wrong with fanfic, especially in the context of video games (which are usually already collaborative, team-written fiction with a writing team partially composed of fans). I will let myself put my little "Haha, I had an idea for a conversation" bits here, but going beyond that is unlikely to happen. A long time ago someone described me as "a girl who writes fanfiction" when I, in fact, never had... and that made me defensive about the whole thing, like I had to prove that not all nerd-girl writers just write fanfic. Since then I've had jobs where I got paid to write in existing IPs, which is a skill that I'm proud of and try to cultivate. Yet, to maintain some kind of semblance of "professionalism" (HA!) I generally avoid the temptation of fanfic. It's honestly never actually been difficult to avoid it before Mass Effect. Add the fact that John Scalzi (a pro SF writer who wrote the SF novel whose universe I feel is most similar to Mass effect) wrote a reboot of Fuzzy Nation, which he admits was fanfic at the time that he wrote it, but which he later got clearance to publish because he is a big famous guy... sigh. I guess I'll just have to become an internationally known writer, and then pitch my ideas to EA/Bioware. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Perfectly understanable.  Garrus goes with me everywhere, even though he seems to suck up twice as much medigel as everyone else.

Except for the final fight, oddly--I guess that big, whopping +4 for HTL compels me to leave him behind, but I also like to think he'd be the guy I'd want coordinating the defense.  Because of this, I usually take Miranda with me to fight the T-100 "Reaper larva."  Not only does she gloriously tell TIM to STFU, but I do not trust leaving her and Garrus behind together--they'd totally bicker over who should be doing what and one of them would get shot.

ANYWAY, SIDETRACK TIME.  Here's how I think Garrus gets along with the rest of the squad:

Tali: Honorary little sister.  He teases her like one, is honest with her like one, and cares for and protects her like one.

Miranda: Grudging respect, but doesn't trust her.  If Shepard were ever out of comission, these two would b*tch endlessly over who should be in charge.

Jacob: They're cautious around each other, but they have similar feelings about authority and are both men of action.  There's bromance potential there, but they're too slow to trust one another to ever get close enough to spillin' some drinks.

Legion: Wonders why Shepard didn't just shoot the damn thing, and although it's a member of the team, definitely doesn't trust it any father than he can throw it.

Jack: He feels sorry for her and greatly approves of the biotic whupassery, but recognizes she's unstable and gives her appropriate space.  I can see him being a complete pain in the ass around her once she warms up to the rest of the crew and cools down the crazy, though.

Aaaaand too lazy to type the rest.  Maybe later, but I'll pass it on to you guys for now.

Sending Tali back with the crew is a good idea, I may do it in my future runs. It does, especially since Mordin is ridiculous against Collectors and husks.

Everyone should do themselves the favor of watching Firefly at least once.  Seriously, there is not one person on that cast I dislike.  I love all the characters and the scripts are just...brilliant.  Also, do yourself the favor of watching their gag/blooper reels.  They are gold. You can tell the cast had a blast filming the show.  Knowing Garrus is (perhaps jokingly, but still) based off of one of them is awesome and I can't wait to see him in ME3.

Edit: Hell yes, make sure you watch Serenity once you finish the tv series.  Firefly...one of the greatest tragedies in television...yet a brilliantly original show.  Damned shame what guess-who did to it. :crying:

I think Garrus would get along with Thane. They could even be friends if Garrus was encouraged to be Paragon. If Garrus is a Renegade, I can see him seeing Thane as too soft. They'd still greatly respect each others skills.

Maybe Garrus would get along with Zaeed, but I dunno.

No chance with Grunt.

Dunno about Samara. Acquaintances at best, I'd say.

Honestly, Serenity is one of the movies on the list of "Things I Wish I Could Unsee," for reasons that people here who have seen it and read my posts will understand. It resulted in me "breaking up" with Joss Whedon for several years, until I was lured back by Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Since then we have had an uneasy peace between us, me and Whedon. I avoided Dollhouse, and then people kept telling me "You know when Dollhouse starts to get good? The episode with Patton Oswalt," at which point I shook my fist mutely at the sky. I still haven't watched it, but I know it's inevitable now.

I suppose I can see why. And I also had a very uneasy time with Mr. Whedon after that. But... the movie itself was still great. And resulted in far too many quotes.    Dr Horrible was amazing. and Dollhouse i couldn't get into. At all. *sighs* i did NOT know that Patton Oswalt was in it. Damn. Now it seems I'll have to watch it. or at least that episode. or... episodes.

As fascinated by Wrex and Mordin as I am, I've never felt compulsed to jump their bones.  Maybe it's because of the way their characters are presented--Mordin's got this whole "Dr. Emmett Brown meets Clint Eastwood" thing going, and while Christopher Lloyd and Clint Eastwood both rock, I'm not exactly attracted to them.  Wrex had... reached the anatomical point where physical attraction was nigh impossible--Garrus has his voice, hips, eyes, shoulders, etc. all working in his favor, but Wrex is a giant angry turtle.  Infinite Brospect, yes, perhaps with hugs, but I have no interest in seeing his quad.

That fic idea rocks, and you should totally write it, or do a few comics of vignettes from it. I am actually a better writer than I am an arist, mostly because words flow more easily for me than pencil lines.  I can pound out a five-page essay overnight, but one good drawing takes me hours.  Words are easy to get right, but I could draw the same building over and over and never nail the perspective.  Hopefully, as I get more experience, that will change.

I can't bring myself to write fanfiction. I don't think there's anything wrong with fanfic, especially in the context of video games (which are usually already collaborative, team-written fiction with a writing team partially composed of fans). Yeah, that's the ticket.

I actually haven't written a legitimate fanfic ever before, even though I've explored a few one-shots here and there in middle/high school.  I think the problem with fanfic nowadays is that everyone associates it with slash and smut.  Personally, I want to work it more from a "practice for real original fiction" angle.

BTW, your career is full of win.  I sooo want to write for videogames someday--or do concept art or something.  I don't know, I just like exploring characters, universes, and concepts.  I lack the creativity to come up with my own material, however.

Really?! Its the opposite on my playthrus. He actually survives all our fights, though the other squaddie tends to take alot of damage, but not necessarly dies often. I admire his marksmanship but the one gripe I have for Garrus always being on my squad he him stealing my kills half the time XD I cant remember how many times I aim for someone's head and he goes down - hearing Garrus yell out "One less to worry about!!!"- Me: Darn it Garrus! Save some for me! I do love its like a friendly contest though. Shep and Garrus in the battlefield, seeing who gets the most kills. Its cute and fun banter between the couple.

Ironically enough I take Miranda AND Garrus with me in the final boss battle majority of the time. I love the fact she practically quits Cerberus. And Garrus....I trust the guy to have my back through it all, he comes with me. Especially since I had him fireteam leader both times. Bout time he's with shep at the most important part of the suicide mission.

And mordin too! I think he and mordin are secret bros. They both give off the renegade vibe with trouble grasping some situations. Plus he mustve told mordin about his moms illness due to the letter of the medical facility getting approval of the tissue samples and basically mordin giving Garrus the salarian STG "hook up"Posted Image

And obviously- I dont see Garrus getting along much with Jacob except on just a professional business level.....Like Tali and Jacob. He didnt exactly give Tali the greatest first impression.

Edit: *is being a dork*SEE LOOKIE! Even in the comic Garrus is in Mordin's company! That further proves my theoryPosted Image

{typical awesome analysis snip}

You totally forgot the most important one: Mordin! I have a feeling Garrus respects the hell out of Mordin - they get along like Batman and Clint Eastwood, that is to say, they fill any room they enter with manly justice. If he trusted Mordin enough to open up to him about his family, and Mordin really went above and beyond to help, I get a feeling they must at least be friends. Probably pretty good friends, at this point, and you know Garrus isn't going to give Mordin any grief over the Genophage.

"Lots of ways to help people. Sometimes heal patients; sometimes execute dangerous people. Either way helps."
"Yes, exactly!"

I have hope for this Bromance, since if there is one thing Mordin is not, it is reckless. Maybe Garrus will see that you can be a badass and still live to be an old badass, if you are just careful and think for a gorram minute.

And as for the old crew:

Wrex: I think Wrex probably still thinks Garrus is an idiot, but Garrus definitely developed grudging respect for Wrex over the course of ME1. Garrus probably recognizes that Wrex running the Krogan is the best possible scenario, though he would never admit it to Wrex.

Liara: I think Garrus has a lot more respect for Liara now that she's the Shadow Broker (he went with me on my LotSB run, naturally). In ME1 he probably thought of her as just another smug asari, naive, and needing protection. Now he may have acknowledged her as some sort of primitive proto-badass.

Ashley: I have a feeling they got into some arguments, spending all that time in the cargo hold together. Probably had more than one fight about who was at fault during the First Contact War. I think he respects her as a soldier, but also sees her as a living example of  all the annoying qualities posessed by humanity - slightly intolerant, militaristic, and quick to anger.

Kaidan: Unlike Ash, Garrus calls Kaidan by his first name on Horizon, so I get the feeling that they at least talked some on the ship. it seems like Kaidan was friendly toward everyone, so I'm sure they hung out a bit, though they probably didn't get past casual frienship. Garrus may have had the same "big brother" feeling toward Kaidan that a lot of mansheps have... the little guy is just so innocent and lovable. So when Kaidan pulled that crap on Horizon, I get the feeling that Garrus was almost as irritated as Shepard was (though not actually hurt).

@CGG: I support Mordin and Garrus bromance. So hard.

One thing about the old crew: Yeah, he and Ashley would not have gotten along. However, Ash has got that crazy warrior woman thing going that Garrus apparently likes, so I hope to see some brospect develop between the two in ME3.

I also forsee the following conversation between Garrus and Kaidan:

Kaidan: Well, Garrus, to be honest, I never expected you to become a badass.
Garrus: Can't say I saw it coming from you, either.
Kaidan: A lot's changed, hasn't it?
Garrus: Mhm. But this is refreshingly nostalgic. Elevators and all.
Kaidan: Slow as ever. You'd think they'd do something about it.

[long pause]

Kaidan: Are we still even moving?
Garrus: *sigh* Just like old times.
Kaidan: Commander? Can we take the rapid transit next time? Please?

1. I totally also support this Mordin/Garrus bromance. :D  Yup.
2. I also think that Wrex respects Garrus a lot...  Garrus has gone through some crap in his life and gotten through it every time. He's strong and does anything to stand up for himself and those around him. Also, he took a rokkit to the face and survived. How krogan is that, seriously.  So I'm pretty sure he's earned Wrex's respect. :D

3. That conversaion is pure win. I want to see that in game. that would make my life happy. :D

That elevator ride will go somewhere more awkward and uneasy if you romanced Kaiden in me1 and then Garrus ^_^;;;;

If kaiden wasnt romanced, I wonder what he might say to Garrus. Two guys that respected the hell out of their commander, one ended up with her. I bet Kaiden would bring up the whole "working with cerberus" bit at some point.

Would Wrex even know about that though? I mean, he would probably notice the scar, but you never really get to converse with Wrex. (Which was a major letdown, out of all your old squaddies, Wrex meets you most enthusiastically.)

The awkwardness in the elevator is only increased in cases where they both have to avoid talking about Shepard's ass. /cough

Ah yes, I see someone else got there before me.

I honestly would be over the moon if they both handle that... issue maturely. Also, RELEVANT COMIC WHY CAN'T I FIND YOU? If anyone else can find the relevant comic, I will be grateful.

Would Wrex even know about that though? I mean, he would probably notice the scar, but you never really get to converse with Wrex. (Which was a major letdown, out of all your old squaddies, Wrex meets you most enthusiastically.)

hmm.  valid point.  I'm going to assume that somewhere in there, maybe they had a chance to speak offcamara?  maybe?  i hold out hope.  I mean, its one hell of a scar... so you'd think that Wrex would ask about it, given the chance.

And yeah, Wrex was always my favorite (excluding Garrus)  in ME1....   I wish I coulda had a chance to speak more with him.

Though i must say...

Shepard.
Wrex.

I have to say though, out of all the *humanoid* alien designs, the Turians are so far my favorite. Just the perfect mix of bipedal, yet alien. A design philosophy I hope the Quarians follow, if we ever get to see them that is.

Our favorite spectre Nihilus (or was it sith? :P) gave me a big goofy smile when I first saw him.
