@Collider: Nihlus is not amused.

And yeah.. after readiing CGG's long analysis of Garrus and Kaidan.. I can't stop thinking about how things will go down in ME3, hopefully there won't be any cheesy love triangles to worry about but this quote in PC Gamer keeps filling me with dread:

"If you weren't faithful, that's going to come to a head at the worst possible time."

Maybe I should do a meta-game run of my canon playthrough just to be on the "safe" side and not romance anybody in ME1.

Bah, TotP we meet again..

I didn't have to meta-game to not romance anyone in ME1, because my canon Shepard wouldn't have gotten involved with Kaidan because of regulations (and he's Virmire'd anyway) and isn't interested in women (or asari).

That said, I had to cackle at that quote. To me, inciting drama was the only reason to cheat. Mmm, drama.

Oh yeah, I do look forward to the dramas. Which is kind of why I did it (since about the only meta-game knowledge I had at the time was that Garrus was an LI in ME2). I don't look forward to hurting anybody's feelings but it sounds like Bioware has a sneaky card up their sleeves regarding the ME1 LIs. And at the same time, I am getting some seriously ominous vibes from that quote.

I gladly cheated on Kaidan to be with Garrus! Looking forward to see Kaidan being pissed and dramatic in Mass Effect 3 !!

that said. I also need to do my playthrough with Obsydian. The Shepard who loved Nihlus, thus would never romance anyone in ME1.
You heard me.

I'm really looking forward to the drama. I loooove angst. it makes me happy.  I will have too many playthroughs so i can get each ending. I've got one who won't *gasp* cheat on Kaidan. 13 who are with Garrus, *exaggeration* lol  and at least one for only Garrus. :D

Also. I love that totp.

I was trying to make it look like he was smirking, but I wasn't quite sure what a Turian smirk would look like ;)

The quote goes on, it actually reads:
"If you weren't faithful to them in Mass Effect 2-and 70% of players weren't-that's going to come to a head at the worst possible time, the end of the world!"

To me, that's saying more that the whole situation is bad timing, not that there will necessarily be a specific "worst time" to bring it up, like in the middle of a battle or something.

I never played ME1 so I'm planning to do so, import into ME2 and play through that again in preparation for ME3. I'm debating whether to romance anyone in ME1. I'll of course romance Garrus in ME2.

I'm hoping there will just be a confrontation where you have to choose. Worst case scenario would be both of them hate you and you end up alone! Did most of you romance someone in ME1 in the imports you are going to use for the final game?

My MainShep, the one who romanced Garrus of course, did not romance anyone in ME1.  Neither did the Shep I used to my Thane romance.  I do have a character who romanced Kaidan, but she hasn't been imported into ME2 yet.  I hate love trianlges and the drama related to them.  I understand if it's someone's cup of tea, it just isn't mine.  I am curious as to how it will play out, but that's what YouTube is for.

I romanced Kaidan, but I really do regret it. He was never really the type of guy I favored in a romantic light - but I liked him as a person, so I romanced him because I was interested in seeing his character development. But I couldn't go all the way through with his romance scene because I felt like I was stringing him along far too much.

Imagine my guilt when Shepard died in ME2, and then upon meeting him again, he tells her how hurt he was by her death. I can sympathize with him. Personally, I feel guilty - and so does my Shepard, RP-wise, who never fully opened up to him as he did to her. His words on Horizon made her (and me) realize that she wasn't as emotionally invested in the relationship. She feels like she cheated him and that he doesn't deserve someone who screwed with his heart like that, even if it was unintentional.

Going further into the RP angle, my Shepard is just as afraid for her relationship with Garrus as he is. She's already broken one man's heart because of her thoughtlessness - and of anyone in the world, she would rather eat her own shotgun than do the same to Garrus.

Well said! I would rather get my Shepard killed instead of breaking Garrus' heart!

I love everyone's stories and I'm looking forward to playing ME1 for the first time and then ME2 again to RP this all out. I'm overthinking it too much before hand though, I have to just go with it. I might not even like Kaidan so it won't  be an issue. I do think the confrontation could be really interesting though, so I wouldn't necessarily want to miss out on that.

I may just have to resign myself to doing more play-throughs than I intended. If ME3 is really fun I won't mind =).

Sounds very similar to my Shepard, Alpha. I hope there's an opportunity to apologise to former LIs in ME3.

Ha, that's what I'm curious about too. I sort of wish I hadn't romanced Kaidan, but then again I want to see my Shepard having to deal with all her other stupid decisions (like killing Wrex) too.

Anyway, with the way I played the game, I don't consider the ME2 romance as cheating. It's not like Shepard and Kaidan exchanged vows, or even said "I love you" to each other, at least with the less committed romance dialogue options (which I chose). The moment where the Virmire survivor turns his/her back on Shepard and walks away, or the moment where Liara decline's Shepard's kiss on Ilium, are to me at least the moments after which they don't have any right to complain about Shepard moving on.

I'm thinking of making another run without romancing anybody in ME 1 and just making saner choices in general, though. Just to be on the safe side.

Wow.. I agree! She was dead for 2 years.. They both moved on, which means that they were no longer together, so Kaidan has no reason to be jealous! ^_^

That's true, I wonder why "remaining faithful" despite being dead for 2 years would have such a big impact in ME3. I think very few people consider it cheating, especially when it is implied that Kaidan moved on when you read his e-mail. But still..the issue has to be addressed to some degree.

I do not see betrayal in this story.
Shepard died, Shepard is back.Kaidan did not understand the reason, ended his pain.
And after two years, it is right that Shepard returns to experience emotion, love ... and not stay anchored in one night.
Time heals all wounds, Kaidan ...
yours too!
