Anyway, with the way I played the game, I don't consider the ME2 romance as cheating.

Yes! THANK YOU!
I get tired of it being called "cheating." If being dead for two years doesn't give you a fresh start, I don't know what does. If someone thinks they're still dating someone that is dead, that makes them crazy.
Kaidan didn't think you were still together, but the whole reaction of him basically saying "WHY DIDN'T YOU CALL ME?!" and not really responding differently after you tell him you've been kind of dead ("Sorry, I must have left all my spare change in my pants that were BURNING AS MY CORPSE ENTERED ATMO!") it definitely justified my decision.

In all reality, it didn't seem like you had been together that long and I can see my Shepard really just wanting some comfort in those stressful times. I've been super lonely before and you'll pretty much say/believe anything to get some relief. Does that make her a bad person? Maybe. But I like that my Shepard isn't super awesome at everything. Both of my Shepards (I made one with Kaidan and then Garrus and one with just Garrus) are attracted to Turians and my first Shepard (I consider them both cannon for me because I basically made the exact same Shepard with a few differences in facial structure/make-up/eye color and name) didn't really think Garrus would be interested in her. After her untimely death and subsequent ressurection, she realized she was stupid for being so afraid. Hell, she could have never had the chance to be with Garrus and even if he turns her down, at least she'll get to be with him and fight side by side. So, while she probably feels bad because Kaidan fell in love with her for reals, she's not going to try to appease him. It's going to be an ugly scene, but she's happy with the choice she's made and she's ready to take her stripes from Kaidan. I'm looking forward to it, actually.

Edit for TOTP:

And after two years, it is right that Shepard returns to experience emotion, love ... and not stay anchored in one night.

That's a perfect way of putting it succinctly! It would be unfair to expect that Shepard just waits that the ME 1 love interest sorts out his/her emotions.

Meep, it was me who wrote that. But regardless I'm glad to see that so many agree with the notion. When I first saw people at this and other forums talking about "cheating" or "staying faithful", it seemed weird to me, since to me the Kaidan one nighter was a lot like that thing Garrus had with that hand-to-hand specialist of his. Perhaps some of the other dialogue options make the ME 1 romance deeper than the ones I chose, I dunno.

Edit: Grammar.

And now that I'm editing this post anyway, is there anyone else who'd like Lorik from Noveria to make a cameo in ME 3? I think he had maybe the second nicest Turian voice in the series after Garrus, so it would be lovely to hear him say even a little one-liner in a news report or something.

There needs to be more Lorik in Mass Effect.  Period.

I've never romanced Kaiden. I'll admit I was a little fond of him in the very beginning, but I think it was only by default, I mean, he was the only potential love interest around (my Shepard isn't into women).
But the moment I met Garrus I knew that he was the one, despite the fact that he wasn't an option. So I talked to him as often as I could and brought him on every mission and cursed bioware for not giving me the choice of a male alien. In ME2 I was thankful that he hadn't been a choice, it made Shep's relationship with him seem more realistic, to me anyway. I'm partial to male/female duos that have years of drawn out sexual tension, where they are strong individuals who are too commited to their goals to notice that they're perfect for eachother
(for example: Mulder and Scully B))

That was exactly my experience.

I think both Garrus and Tali benefit as LIs from not being designed as LIs in the first place.  I love BioWare and their games, but I can usually recognize which characters are LIs and which ones aren't just based on their backstories.  They often get saddled with extra baggage, and their dialogue, especially in the Mass Effect series, is limited if they are not romanced.  (Fenris, Thane, Zev...I love you boys, but you're pretty obviously token BioWare love interests).

But Garrus and Tali actually had a game to develop as characters without the "hey! you can bang them!" neon sign hanging over their heads.  When they DID finally become love interests, it didn't feel like they were there just to fill up another LI slot.  It felt like they were love interests because they had history with Shepard, because their character arcs had added weight.

@ Sable Rhapsody: That's exactly why I like Garrus and romancing him! Because he and Shepard have a history, they went through alot together and they have a trustful friendship that just grows and matures to a romantic relationship in the end (if you want to). Not like Miranda, Jacob or Thane... You meet em' and bang em'...That's it... <_<

I like Miranda's Renegade romance, personally.  It reminds me a bit of the belligerent UST in the rivalry romances of DA2.  But yes, I do agree.  Having two games to develop from friendship to LI greatly benefitted Garrus and Tali.  It almost feels a bit unfair.

Hey guys! The possibility of meeting Solana in ME3 has been mentioned before, but I was doing some thinking and figured it'd make for interesting discussion here (if it hasn't been brought up yet): since I'd say the chances of us meeting Solana in ME3 are pretty damn high, what would you guys think of her becoming a squadmate/LI?

See, the only plausible way I could think that might happen is if Garrus died on the Suicide Mission. Maybe Mama Vakarian succumbed to grief after she learned about the death of her son, and with Garrus killed for a noble cause and no mother to take care of, Solana has two options: sit at home and twiddle her thumbs, or help Shepard save the galaxy.

Of course, this scenario is obviously for those who lost Garrus on accident and kept the save, because who would ever intentionally kill him in the first place?

It would be awesome to have her as a squad mate, but only if Garrus suvives too!

She would be disturbed to see my Shepard in the arms of her brother!

She won't be an LI and I doubt she'd be a squadmate unless Garrus and his mother were dead or something. Depends on her combat skills and if she actually has a place fighting on Shepard's team. :P

From what I've seen/heard/read Garrus and Tali are back for sure....so thta means there probably won't be any new Turian squaddies.

And since we're going to Palaven in ME3 I think we're almost certain to FINALLY see female Turians.

Exactly, which is why I said I could only see it happening if Garrus died on the Suicide Mission. With how poorly their mother is faring, I wouldn't be surprised if the news caused her condition to deteriorate and for her to die of pure grief. Otherwise, if Garrus is alive, I'd assume that she would stay home to hold down the fort.

As for combat skill, that shouldn't be a problem, as every turian enrolls in the military at age 15.

@Arcian, Haha, sorry I stole your thunder! I just love that picture so much. It feels very playfully aggressive. Sort of like they're in the middle of sparring and in the moment Shepard just went for it. It looks like she's pinning him down.

Geeze, that would be horrible for his mother to go like that. No parent should have to bury their child and feel that type of grief. :(

But as for combat ability...we don't know if it's just the standard "I can point the hollow end of a gun in the right direction and set up a makeshift bomb" or if it's "lolyeah, Spectres.  I hang with them."  For all we know, Solana was a mess cook in the Hierarchy military and only has basic skills. :P

Personally, I think it would be great to get to meet Garrus' family, but I don't know if I'd want Solana as a member just because she's his sister. If we're picking up another turian, I think I'd be more amused to get a new, unrelated turian with a personality the polar opposite of Garrus', just for some amusing compare and contrast.

...Although, humph, what are the odds d'ya'think of Bioware being evil enough to put a hot, unrelated female turian on board with Shepard and Garrus? Y'know, to torment Garrus and/or to see if Garrus-romancing Sheps would get jealous? :?

Oh gods, same here. ouch.    Meeting Garrus's family would be amazing though.

Also, SPOILERS.

apparently there are no new LI's.    there is a new squaddie though.
