I've heard its a fantastic show.... i'll have to check it out at some point. :D

The 1st season is kind of slow, and the effects are a bit.....weak.  But suffer the 1st season as it sets up a lot of important backstory.  The 2nd season things to start to get rolling in a big way.

Ugh, all these "not all LIs will be permanent squadmates" and "Garrus and Tali should be temporary squadmates" threads are getting me worried. For me (and I know this is probably a minority opinion in this thread, but I consider this place safe even when I want to say something stupid), having Garrus with me as a squadmate straight through to the end is just as important as having him as a LI again... maybe even more important. If he has to leave Shepard and go do something else for the latter half of the game, I will be a sad panda. I'm fine if you don't get him until later, but he has to be with me at the end!

I think they're only saying that because Garrus and Tali are already confirmed. They're saying the same about Liara. If Miranda was confirmed the Jack fans would be saying it about her and vice-versa. If Miranda and Jack were confirmed the Thane and Jacob fans would be saying it.

It's nerves. People want their LI back so they're taking it out on the confirmed ones. Uncertainty breeds paranoia. I remember how flame-ey things got on the DA2 forums before we had confirmed LIs, because we knew there would be two male LI slots and there were three characters, all with their own fanbases. It's the idea that 'If the one I want isn't there, this character took his/her spot'.

Granted my opinion means little since the one I wanted is already confirmed, but I think it's not a big deal if an LI is a temporary squadmate from the romance perspective. If the romance subplots are anything like the ones in the last games, you'd be spending half of the game waiting for their dialogues to trigger anyway. This would just take out the waiting aspect and make everything they said more important instead of that disappointment of going to see them after a mission and only getting their default conversation line a la 'calibrations'.

Yeah, I know I probably have very little reason to worry, but the "they've been confirmed as squadmates, but we're not 100% sure that they are permanent" thing is getting to me. Because it's true... while we've seen magazine confirmations, none of them come in the form of direct developer quotes, that I've seen yet anyway.

I just don't want to get arrogant and then have my dreams crushed. Hehe.

I don't think we have to worry too much, though--Garrus is just as popular with the gents as he is with the ladies.  He's also sort of Shepard's wingman, the Spock to his Kirk.

True true. I have to remember that these boards are not much of the universe. Just a small, loud, dense part of it.

Yep.

The one thing that made me confident that Garrus was gonna be with you in ME3 all the way is the (horribly corny) line he says if he dies as the second fire team leader.

"Sorry, Shepard. Looks like I won't be there with you in the end."

Effectively, the game is saying: GOOD JOB KILLING OFF THE ONE GUY WHO'D STICK WITH YOU, YA DUMB F*CK!

Well said! You don't know how much I like that analogy. There is only one person who has been with you all the way through. Everyone else has had other interests, other missions that seemed more important to them. Even Tali had to do her mission for the Flotilla. Only Garrus dropped everything for Shepard. He's an integral part to Shepard, male or female. You don't mess with equilibrium.

This is also a strong indication that they always planned to have Garrus as a potential permanent squadmate in ME3. At least my fanboy brain wants it to be like that.
Dammit, I want to have Garrus at my side in the end of all three games!

That's what I took it as loooong before I ever joined the BSN.  I kept thinking, "Wow, it really seems like the game wanted you to keep him specifically alive there."

Damn straight.

Honestly though he didn’t have anything left to drop at that point. Of course, he didn’t have hesitations about joining Shepard and understood the necessity of having to deal with Cerberus wonderfully, and there’s all the other good things that have been mentioned. I only wonder if he had been instantly available if Shepard had came while Garrus still had his squad. He might not had wanted to disband them just like that. It could have resulted in something similar as with Tali and Liara, although I think he still would have been a lot more open than Tali was on Freedom’s Progress.

But what's important is that Bioware didn't make him do that. From a story point of view he may not have dropped the squad, but from a gameplay point of view they made him join you no questions asked. And you're with Cerberus. Posted Image

This?
"#ME3 writing team has some great ideas for breaking the mold on char. interactions, which should add to non romance relationship."

What about this?
"Happy to confirm #ME3 supports wider options for love interests incl. same-sex for m&f chars, reactive to how you interact w/them in-game."

Wouldn't that have added an interesting twist to Garrus' loyalty mission. Shepard goes to Omega to recruit Archangel, who is currently busy cleaning up Omega with his squad of men, Shepard fights his way in to find Garrus in charge of a very loyal, but still very alive band of mercenaries. Shepard has to talk Garrus into joining up, but still being loyal to Shepard, tells his men that he has to depart for a little while and leaves them in the capable hands of his second in command... Sidonis.

Sometime later, Garrus gets word that his whole squad was wiped out and begs Shepard to go back and find out what happened, only to learn that the man he left in charge wasn't killed, but rather has fled Omega...

On second thought, I'm glad that didn't happen. Garrus unfairly piled the guilt on himself as the events in the game played out -- had he actually been responsible for putting the guy who sold them out in charge and then left, it might have been more than he could take.

Though it certainly would let Shepard have a taste of his pain, especially if Shepard convinced Garrus to leave in the first place.

It would have been a downer no matter how it ended. Yeesh.
