Hi all. I've managed to get past several game stopping bugs with the instalation. Have finally managed to boot up the game. The menu was all blury green and I believe is reffered to as ghosting. Not much of a deal i continued to play an after the normandy exploded, saw my heart beat, saw a skeleton and right as I get to the part wher I'm supposed to pick my class etc the game crashes. I found another thread on the forums with the same problem, at first a member seemed to have found the problem of a missing file in the retail version (which i have, non collecors) and he sugggested a link to download and fix it and several members seem to be delighted, however it's in rusian and hte sites a bit shady and think it might be a scam.

Anyway I still have this problem of blurry menues and crashing at the character creation screen jsut after the normandy explodes. I'm really desperate, this is the 4th serious bug i've found an I'm hoping the last. I jsut wanna get on with it an enjoy the game.

Everything seems up to date. Got the latest direct x download for it, got the latest physyX update. Iv'e reinstalled it several times. I've gone back to the store to get another disc. I've tried everything I can think of.

My specs are:

-Windows XP, service pack 3
-Pentium Duel CPu 3GHz
-2gb of ram.
-Not sure on my graphics card, we got a new budget performance one a year or two ago. It's able to run mass effect 1 full graphics no worries. It was running ME2 at full graphics before hte character creation screen. So it doesn't seem to be a problem, i've turned my graphics way down.

Can anyone help me please?

You should be aware that the "Pentium Dual" might as well carry the name "Celeron Core", because it is a badly crippled CPU created to sell very cheaply, and just not very good for games.

ME-1 and ME-2 are different in several regards, not the least of which is that ME-2 offers no lenience at all toward underpowered video graphics processors.  Your symptoms sound like a combination of bad old drivers and weak, or damaged, video hardware.

MINIMUM Graphics
Video Card = 256 MB (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support). Supported GPU Chips: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater; ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater. Please note that NVIDIA GeForce 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7500, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, 9200, and 9300; ATI Radeon X1300, HD 2400, 3100, 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, and HD 4350 are below minimum system requirements. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required. Intel  and S3 video devices are not officially supported in Mass Effect 2.

RECOMMENDED
ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, or better, recommended
NOTES: For the best results, make sure you have the latest drivers for your video and audio cards. Laptop or mobile versions of the above supported video cards have not had extensive testing and may have driver or other performance issues. As such, they are not officially supported in Mass Effect 2.  Intel  and S3 video devices are not officially supported in Mass Effect 2.
