I, like many others, am having issues trying to play the steam mass effect(the mass effect has stopped working error)
i have tried out nearly every solution i've come accross with no affect
i've:
run it as an administrator
turned the UAC on and off(with and withot adminstator settings on)
verified integrity
backed up the files
gotten the new directx
updated a couple files in the binary folder
launched the game from every possible shortcut
and a few others i cant remember

so now i simply ask if there are any other possible solutions that can still work

I have:
the PC version
downloaded from steam

EDIT: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium
Intel core 2 duo processor T6400
4gb SDRAM, 320GB HDD
14.1" Diagonal widescreen TruBite display
802.11a/g/n wireless
latest directx version

*anymore info needed just ask and i will edit the post with it

-please do not simply post that you have the same problem(i don't mean to sound rude but those posts don't help me). Unless you have a solution, a question, or anything along those lines please don't post

-thank you

what is the error that you are getting?
what OS are you running?
also, does your video card meet the minimum requirements?
are the drivers for your video card up to date?

If all you have is merely something from Intel as "graphics", you can't play the game.  An actual video card from an actual 3D game knowledgeable company is required.  That means only ATI and nVIDIA, because Intel simply doesn't care about game players.

And the oldest, slowest of Geforces or Radeons won't work, either.  It needs to be a Mainline game card.

Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 6 series (6800GT or better: 210, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7500, 7600 GS, 8200, 8300, 8400 GS, 8500, 9200, & 9300 are below minimum system requirements)
ATI Radeon X1800 GTO (X1300, X1300 Pro, X1550, HD 2400, HD 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4350, HD 4550, and HD 5450 are below minimum system requirements)

AFAIK, the last time that a laptop with onboard video also had an empty video card connector was back about 2003 or so.  From about then onward, in order to get laptop prices down, the monobloc assembly became standard.  They are now rather solidly welded into one unit, and there no longer is any way to retroactively add real graphics when there was none to start with.

The few companies that were offering an upgrade route for laptops that do have discrete cards inside of them were typically replacing almost everything inside the outer shell when you sent it back to get a better video processor (or better CPU, either one).  In the past couple of years, the few models for which that had been an option have been greatly reduced.  I know that Sager still performs some upgrades, but I really doubt much of anyone else does any more.
