*FIX:

1. Uninstall ME2

2. Reboot

3. Open Program and Features (Win7-Vista) or Add Remove Programs (WinXP)

4. Remove/Uninstall nVidia drivers and Physx drivers

5. Reboot one more time

6. Reinstall ME2

7. Open the game

Thats it...
If you are still having this issue, then nVidia drivers are still active in your system. Repeat the above steps in safe mode (F8) during boot up

Instead of bothering with a full reinstall of Mass Effect 2, just download the latest Nvidia PhysX software from their site. Yes, it works, I've done it.

Or just install Physx from the Mass Effect 2 disc.
