Visual improvements for hundreds of character models

Posted Image

If you begin looking at the Dragon Age mod community, it’s hard to avoiding stumbling upon the Dragon Age Redesigned package. This huge mod doesn’t add new quests, characters, locations or items, but it will slap a fresh coat of paint on hundreds of characters throughout the game. Redesigned is still very much a work in progress, but the amount of visual improvements made in the mod is impressive, to say the least. While not recommended for a first play-through, this package is one I would deem a must-have for second, third and beyond forays into Ferelden.

Continue here and enjoy the nice work by the community ...

A great mod. I would recommend the NPC (not party members) package for even the first playthrough.

Fantastic mod. The companion designs are superb as well.

This just seems weird to me, I prefer the ori ones, its not just because I'm so used to them. I think they have more character, and in the case of Wynne or Flemeth, just the right look without having me pity or being too distracted at how old they actually are.

It's good to know I'm not the only one that has a preference for the characters as Bioware created them. I'm not knocking the time and effort that the mod author put into reimaging them by any means; I know how hard it is to adjust the faces to fit what you have as an image for a particular character.

lol i really need a PC just for the mods, i'll be forever stuck with the fugly npcs (though do agree the party cast looks better in original form), mucky brown palletted everything, vanilla game ;   ;

Oh and Wynne should never show her age >__> i prefer to think of her as a MILF who went grey early

I was really gainst using character-appearance mods for a long while, but I started using this mod on my latest run-throughs (3 consecutive ones: a Spirit/Creation mage, a 2H Dalish Warrior and a DW City Elf Rogue). I was actually surprised that, once I got past the initial shock of everyone looking different, I actually much preferred it - the NPCs more than the playable characters, though I've started to use some of the the party-member ones too now, albeit not the extreme makeover ones. And, I have to admit - I *love* Dracomies' Awakening changes, most notably the ones for Justice and Velanna.

not recommended for first play? lol 99% of the new designs replace butt-ugly faces to begin with.

I'd say this mod is best enjoyed from the get-go.

then again, maybe you do have a point..if you don't see how terrible some of the designs this replaces are you won't appreciate the mod near as much

I didn't like this mod much myself, except that I do like one of the alternate Wynnes better than Bio's. I think the modder has great skill, but I don't like his design sense. And of course, he's opposed to the world design itself in the matter of elves, but he's upfront about that and made that part optional.

I'm not generally pleased with the characters models, because the body proportions just seem off. I'll just use humans as an example. I guess the women on Dragon Age aren't too dissimilar in proportions from the women in Hollywood, although they could stand to have just a bit more muscle mass (Even then, I'm ignoring that women in Medieval Europe tended to be built a bit bigger), and slightly bigger hips.

The Human men aren't much larger than the women (I'm pretty sure they're noticeably taller, but not they aren't built much more than the women. Especially for men who are supposed to be fighters, they seem awfully thin. I can buy men and women being as thin as they are in the game, but they need to be shorter to compensate for it. After all, peasants in Europe, being malnourished as they were, were limited in their height.

But that's just my two cents. Maybe the people do look like people, but I don't buy it. Unlike today, where being thin is usually taken as a sign of being relatively well off, it was the opposit back then. Upper-class individuals tended to be bigger, many times just to show that they can afford to eat well.

Man has patience and some skill can't argue that. Personally though didn't like the direction of style he took, focused far to much on beautifying the NPC's which really made it feel out of place given the setting.

Note that DA bodies are  variable depending on equipment. See, for instance, the Chasind Robes of Breast Enlargement

Intriguing.

I take it the model is actually in the armor?

Anyways, I honestly wouldn't want to see what people in that setting SHOULD look like.

I don't like it. Actually, I hate mods like that. I'm sick of soap/fashion faces everywhere.

Truly, his doll faces disgust me. But of course, use it if you like it. Just speaking for myself.

Honestly, I think the faces are fine unmoddified.

Except for older ladies. Especially Nan.

I hate to do the "me too" thing but... me too. :P As noted a few times now, he deserves recognition for the effort such a massive undertaking must have taken. Is still taking, even. However, I prefer BioWare's originals partly because many of these faces are too beautified, but also due to my preference for an artist's original vision. I don't mind using mods for armor or to expand my character creation options, but altering the appearance of NPCs and party members is where I draw the line.

It *is* impressive work though. That can't be denied.

On the topic of Dragon Age: Origin bodies, they are all tied to armor, yes. Basically every head from the neck up is grafted unto an existing body. When a character dons armor, they are really popping their heads on a new form. XD BioWare has done this since Jade Empire. Perhaps KotOR, but Jade Empire was the game where it first became evident to me. I can only imagine producing custom models tailored to each individual would cost a fortune in time and resources.

Cant say I dont like original BWs work, mainly because it serves its purpose perfectly, but this one seem like a hell of an effort was given to it and from pictures Ive seen it do looks amazing. Brings new feeling into the game.

Id give it a try :)

I think he read to many (what are those fashion magazines) idk Tyra Banks fashion magazines... Not everyone in Medieval times looked like super models, and the same applies to today's standards. I'm perfectly fine with flawed faces, especially the yellow teeth. I mean something as small as yellow teeth get on people's nerves that much... I don't like mods that make characters look any different, but I can see the work done is quite vast...

How to make overly beautiful NPC's in a time frame where the vast majority should be looking somewhat mundane?

My biggest thing is if you install this mod and stay away from the aesthetics veri. and go with lore versions instead which i did on one play through i can see begin to see how the character and VAing mess together and about 95% of the time for me its spot on.. and when i look at the orginals that BIoware did where great just sometimes something so small as to a bit of change in beard or a change in eye shape can begin to see the characters take on a whole new light... i beat my first DA playthrought without any mods, and on my 2nd playthought i found almost all of the characters more interactive with the game and fitting into place so much much better.. now with armor tint changes and mods like better atmosphere the game has a whole new meaning in some areas

While I don't like repeating what others have said...

I commend the author on the work, which is a great effort in redesigning a lot of characters. However, I can't play with this mod.  I can't play a fantasy game in a harsh environment in troubled times if everyone I meet looks like a contestant on "Ferelden's Next Top Model".

The redesigns of Morrigan (in this mod and others) particularly don't gel with me - she's lived in a swamp her entire life, and is battling darkspawn and other enemies, yet has a flawless complexion and perfect flowing hair... sorry, not buying it.  Admittedly, I don't buy much into the whole Morrigan-love thing anyway, so perhaps it's lost on me.

So you have my hearty applause at your skills in creating a variety of attractive face morphs, and I wish I had your talent for manipulating the editor to create beautiful people, but for me it doesn't work to have so many ridiculously attractive characters in the game.

This is precisely why I never use the Morrigan mods, or the Leliana ones at that. I tried briefly, very very briefly.
